How to do Hallow’s End in WoW?
The Hallow’s End event celebrates the Forsaken breaking free from the Scourge. Its celebration coincides with global Halloween, but begins a little earlier – on October 18.
In the world of WoW, undead ignite a massive wicker effigy while listening to an oration from Lady Sylvanas in celebration. However, since Sylvanas will not be able to attend the celebration due to the events of Shadowlands, we will have some changes and a new storyline.
In addition, the main boss of the event, The Headless Horseman, has received significant changes, as well as the rewards it offers. We will discuss all this below.
How long is Hallow’s End?
Hollow’s End duration is 14 days – from October 18 to November 1. During this time, you can complete all tasks and activities and collect enough Tricky Treat to exchange them for rewards, as well as to receive unique achievements dedicated to the holiday.
How do you get Hallow’s End XP buff?
Hallow’s End is a great time to level up because of the XP buff this event gives to its participants. During the Wickerman Festival, two potent buffs (one for the Alliance and one for the Horde) are available. Every four hours, an announcement resonates throughout the city, followed by either Sylvanas or Genn bestowing buffs on nearby adventurers a mere 10 minutes later.
The “Decree of the Dark Lady” buff is bestowed upon players who witness a theatrical event where Sylvanas oversees the Wickerman’s ignition outside the Undercity, interpreting its blaze as a testament to the Forsaken’s might. This buff endures for an hour and remains even after death.
Similarly, for the Alliance, “Greymane’s Resolve” is conferred when players observe Genn Greymane admiring the Wickerman’s flames outside Stormwind, symbolizing the Worgen’s enduring spirit. This enhancement, too, has a duration of an hour and sustains through death.
With this buff, your character’s leveling speeds up significantly, and our Overgear leveling service costs less, so this is a great time to take advantage of this service. However, if you want to go through all the hardships of leveling on your own, then our Leveling Guide will greatly facilitate your desire.

Headless Horseman Tactic
Thanks to the datamine, we know that Headless Horseman has updated some of his abilities, and also, most likely, added a special difficulty – Hard Mode. However, at the moment we do not know exactly how much the boss fight tactics have changed, but most likely it is not significant. So the guide below will help you anyway. We will update this part of the guide when more information becomes available.
The encounter consists of three straightforward phases:
Phase One:
- Focus on damaging the boss until he reaches 1% health. At this point, his head will detach, relocating to a random spot. The detached head has its own health pool. Your goal is to reduce the head’s health to 67% before the main body, which is steadily regenerating, returns to 100%.
Phase Two:
- Spread out and concentrate on the boss once more (now with the head reattached). When he’s again at 1% health, the head detaches and relocates. This time, you’ll need to deplete the head’s health to 33% before the main body fully regenerates.
Phase Three:
- Focus your damage on the boss and pay no mind to the additional enemies. When the boss is reduced to 1% health, the head will detach for the last time. Your final task is to defeat the head completely.
Headless Horseman Loot
In addition to Boss Loot you can obtain Loot-Filled Pumpkin with a special and very rare rewards.
From Boss:
From Loot-Filled Pumpkin:
- Sword: The Horseman’s Sinister Slicer
- Helm: The Horseman’s Horrific Hood
- Mount: The Horseman’s Reins
- Temporary Mount: Magic Broom
- Battle Pet: Sinister Squashling

Other daily quests related to the Headless Horseman may also grant these treats as rewards.
- Defeat the Headless Horseman. Engaging the Headless Horseman, the special 5-man boss for the event located in the Scarlet Monastery’s graveyard, offers a chance at receiving a Loot-Filled Pumpkin once per day per character. This pumpkin might contain Tricky Treats among other potential rewards.

Loot-Filled Pumpkin Locations
The Loot-Stuffed Pumpkin in World of Warcraft isn’t something you find in specific locations throughout the game world. Instead, it’s a reward given to players once per day for defeating the Headless Horseman during the Hallow’s End event.
Here’s how to obtain a Loot-Filled Pumpkin:
- Queue for the Headless Horseman Encounter: Open the Dungeon Finder tool (default key ‘I’ on your keyboard). Under the ‘Special Event’ category, you’ll find the option to queue for the Headless Horseman. This is a special event dungeon available only during the Hallow’s End event.
- Defeat the Headless Horseman: Once your group is assembled, you’ll be taken to the graveyard in the Scarlet Monastery. Engage and defeat the Headless Horseman. The fight is divided into several phases, as the Horseman and his head become separate targets.
- Obtain the Loot-Filled Pumpkin: After defeating the boss, you’ll automatically be awarded a Loot-Filled Pumpkin in your inventory if it’s your first victory of the day. This means you can get one Loot-Filled Pumpkin per day for each of your characters.
Inside the Loot-Filled Pumpkin, you might find various rewards such as:
- Tricky Treats
- Masks
- The Horseman’s Reins (a very rare mount)
- Rings, helms, and other gear of varying item levels (dependent on the level of the character that opens it)
- Wands and other novelty items related to the Hallow’s End event
Remember, you can only earn one Loot-Filled Pumpkin per character each day, so if you have multiple characters, it’s a good idea to run the encounter on each of them to maximize your chances at the desired loot.
Where are the vendors in Hallow’s End?
In World of Warcraft, during the Hallow’s End event, vendors play a pivotal role in selling various festival items, including pets, masks, toys, and more, which players can buy using the special event currency, Tricky Treats. Undercity for the Horde:
- Dorothy: Sells masks, wands, food, recipes, pets, and toys.
- Farina: Offers a range of Hallow’s End masks.
Note: With the events of Battle for Azeroth, the Undercity has been destroyed. However, during Hallow’s End, there is a portal in the Ruins of Lordaeron that takes players to an instanced version of the intact Undercity where they can find these vendors.
Stormwind for the Alliance:
- Katrina Shimmerstar: She’s the primary Hallow’s End vendor for the Alliance and sells masks, wands, food, recipes, pets, and toys.

Always make sure to have a stash of Tricky Treats on hand, as they’re the primary currency these vendors will accept for their special Hallow’s End goods.
Weighted Jack-O’-Lantern Locations
During the Hallow’s End event, players can participate in various activities, including the hunt for weighted jack-o’-lanterns which can be used to throw at other players, placing a pumpkin on their head.
