The War Within Warlock Overview
Warlock has always been a strong damage dealer throughout the entire history of WoW due to 3 damage dealing specs. One way or another, Warlock remains at the top of DPS meters in any type of encounter. This class is known for its AoE capabilities, sustained damage, and utility in dungeons and raids.
In fact, Warlocks are also good for solo playing and can adapt to various situations. They tend to perform well across different patches and expansions, in Single and Multi-Target Situations, and the dark demonic aura around the Warlock class only makes it even more intriguing and interesting to master.

The War Within Warlock Changes
In the War Within expansion, Warlocks have seen significant changes across all specializations, including Warlock Class Tree Rework which was followed by a talent restructure, new spells and new Hero Talent Tree, and rebalanced abilities. Demonology now has better demon damage boosts and smoother burst windows; Affliction’s DoTs are more synergistic and versatile; Destruction’s Chaos Bolt scales better with gear, and its cleave damage is improved. And surely the overall Warlock Utility is still there.
Changes to abilities include:
- Demonic Circle: is no longer a baseline ability.
- Demonic Tactics: Introduced as a new output node, providing enhanced damage.
- Soul Link: Now a consolidated 2-point talent, with Profane Bargain removed.
- Inquisitor’s Gaze and Summon Soulkeeper: This node has been replaced by Soul Conduit, now available at 1 point of effectiveness.
Also, a new feature — the Warbands — was added. It allows now to transfer resources between your alts and the main character, which is way more convenient than it was. You can unlock the Warband Bank with the help of our team and start managing your resources now.
The War Within Warlock Abilities
Being a beloved class for many players, Warlocks in World of Warcraft has several key abilities available to all specializations. Here are the essential abilities, that make Warlocks stand out of the crowd:
- Healthstone: Creates a Healthstonethat restores a significant amount of health, providing vital self-healing;
- Fear: Inflicts Fear on the target, causing it to flee in terror for a short duration, offering powerful crowd control;
- Unending Resolve: Grants damage reduction and immunity to interrupts for a brief period, enhancing survivability in tough situations;
- Soulstone: Can be used to resurrect a fallen ally or pre-cast on oneself or others to automatically resurrect upon death.
The War Within Warlock Rotation
Depending on the spec, your rotation will vary. In order not to overload you with tons of information and a full list of rotational abilities, we prepared a list of tips on Warlock combat scenarios:
- Maintain DoTs. Always keep your damage-over-time abilities (such as Seed of Corruption for Affliction) active on your target. Refresh them just before they expire to maximize uptime;
- Use Cooldowns Wisely. Time your major cooldowns like Summon Demonic Tyrant (Demonology), Dark Soul: Misery (Affliction), or Dark Soul: Instability (Destruction) for burst phases or key moments in the encounter;
- Prioritize Spenders. Use your primary resource spenders efficiently, such as Chaos Bolt (Destruction), Hand of Gul’dan (Demonology), or Unstable Affliction (Affliction), to ensure you are always spending resources effectively;
- Cast Filler Spells. When no other abilities are available, use your filler spells like Shadow Bolt (Demonology), Drain Soul (Affliction), or Incinerate (Destruction) to keep dealing damage;
- Positioning. Maintain optimal positioning to minimize movement, as Warlocks rely on casting time. Use abilities like Burning Rush to reposition quickly when necessary.
To learn the rotation of a particular spec you can have a look at one of our Warlock Specialization guides on Overgear.
The War Within Warlock Leveling
The best spec to level up is the Demonology Warlock. This specialization is the best for solo Warlock gameplay because of tanky demons that always can protect you and a decent amount of self-healing. If you are starting with level one, visit Chromie and choose the Warlords of Draenor timeline. For more effectiveness use the Azeroth Autopilot addon to follow the fastest way possible.
And for even better, faster, and more convenient leveling you can ask for Power Leveling service and forget about hours spent on grind.
Don’t hesitate to spend some gold on the following items, as they will ease your life drastically.
- Gunshoes — increase your movement speed on the ground;
- Goblin Glider Kit — having a few in your bags is always helpful;
- Light-Step Hoofplates & Comfortable Rider’s Barding — improve your ground mounts;
- Bear Tartare — killing monsters increases your speed;
- Drums of Deathly Ferocity — a Bloodlust effect;
- Spectral Flask of Power — the old flask will give you a pretty decent stat increase.
The War Within Warlock BiS Items
Warlocks in WoW The War Within use Reshii Wraps as their BiS item of preference. It adds Intellect scaling and facilitates higher uptime on DoTs or channeled spells. Paired with good haste or mastery rolls, this cape is made to order for each spec from Affliction to Destruction. See our complete Reshii Wraps guide here.
Best Warlock Cartel Chip Items
In fact, you can also get some of the BiS gear during the Turbo Boost event. See the best Warlock Cartel Chip purchases here:

The War Within Warlock Stats
The stat priority shows, which gear you need to focus on during item equipping. For each spec, the priority is different:
- For Affliction Warlock, prioritise these stats:
Item Level > Intellect > Haste > Mastery > Crit > Versatility; - Demonology spec should look for these points while gearing:
Item Level > Intellect > Haste > Mastery = Crit > Versatility; - And finally, here’s the priority for Destruction Warlocks:
Item Level > Intellect > Haste > Mastery > Critical Strike > Versatility.

The War Within Warlock Best Race
The racial options for Warlock are various, but some are definitely better than others. Here we gathered the best races for Warlock in The War Within Expansion.
Horde
The Orc racial bonus Hardiness is good for lowering the time of control on you. This is, for sure, the top Horde racial skill to have if you are focused mostly on PvP. Also not only
While Hardiness is a great skill, this race also has the Blood Fury racial ability. This is not in the global cooldown and mostly be used for burst damage with other burst abilities.
Alliance
The Human racial ability Will to Survive is a good skill to get rid of annoying stuns. It is hard not to mention that this race also has The Human Spirit that boosts your secondary stats (Haste, Critical Strike, Mastery, Versatility).
The War Within Warlock PvP
The Warlock class has lost its apex lately and is no longer the king of PvP classes. However, it’s still a very solid choice for PvP.
Affliction has good survivability and huge solo target damage with a bit lack of burst damage. Destruction has some important issues, such as lack of survivability and, more importantly, lack of mobility. Demonology has overcome some changes that buffed Demonology a lot. This spec has good mobility, the best survivability out of all three specs, good burst damage, and a lot of utility, thus, it should be an obvious choice when entering PvP environments.
The War Within Warlock Best Professions
Some people say that Engineering is a must-have profession in PvP and PvE, but in fact, you can buy everything you need in an auction house. So we suggest you focus on making gold. The best combinations for professions are Mining + Herbalism or Tailoring + Skinning (these setups are for those who like to grind and make money from it). And despite which one you choose, you can improve your profession knowledge with our The Council of Dornogal Renown service.
The War Within Warlock Macros
What can enhance your quality of life more than Macros? Probably, lots of things, but Macros are also good. They come in handy when playing classes with complicated rotations and help to avoid downtime and DPS loss.
Warlock Macros
- Soulstone Cast. This macro casts Soulstone on a raid member, and you don’t need to click this member. Just hover the mouse over them. If your mouse is somewhere else but not on the raid member frame, you will cast the Soulstone on yourself.
#showtooltip Soulstone
/cast [target=mouseover,exists] [] Soulstone - Agony Macro. Quite the same thing as with Soulstone, but with DoT skill. It saves a lot of time, especially when you are fighting multiple enemies.
#showtooltip Agony
/cast [target=mouseover] Agony - Soulburn Aura Cancel. This macro cancels your Soulburn aura and then casts the spell simultaneously.
