Midnight Pre-Patch Release Date
WoW Midnight Pre-Patch releases January 19 (US) and January 20 (EU), 2026, and from that moment on, we can start familiarizing ourselves with the key systems of the next expansion.
The Midnight pre-expansion patch traditionally serves as a transitional stage, so the update will affect almost all aspects of the game: interface, classes, add-ons, and basic mechanics. At this stage, we will get used to the first elements of WoW Midnight and calmly adapt to the changes before the full release of the expansion. However, if you want to prepare for Midnight faster, our team is ready to help you with the WoW Midnight Leveling.
Midnight Pre-Patch Updates
WoW Midnight Pre-Patch brings a major set of system updates that lay the foundation for the Midnight expansion. Key changes in WoW Midnight Pre-Patch include:
- Large-scale UI updates, with new built-in tools;
- The release of a new Demon Hunter spec — Devourer;
- Significant add-on updates (including restricting access to combat data, and changing the role of WeakAuras and DBM);
- Major transmog updates (including Outfits and Situations systems);
- A global stat squish affecting item level, damage, and health;
- The development of player housing (charter neighborhoods and endeavors);
- The start of the pre-expansion event — Twilight Ascension;
- Extensive class changes (including new talents, and a hero talent row for all specializations);
- The removal of some old seasonal content and achievements.
Some of the updates have already been discussed in our WoW Midnight Preview; however, here we will focus specifically on what is important in the context of the Pre-Patch and preparation for the expansion’s release. For instance, you can start Midnight preps with our Midnight S1 VIP Subscription to ensure that your first season in the new expansion will be full of achievements and rewards.
Midnight Pre-Patch UI Updates
One of the most significant changes in WoW Midnight Pre-Patch will be the redesigned standard interface. The UI Updates in Midnight Pre-Patch WoW include:
- Updated Nameplates;
- Improved Raid Frames;
- Redesigned Cooldown Manager;
- Built-in Damage Meter and Boss Timers with ability timelines.
✏️ All key elements can be customized and moved around to suit your play style.
As a result, you get more control over the information without having to install dozens of addons. In addition, these changes will help newbies adapt to the game mechanics more quickly.
Midnight Pre-Patch Addon Updates
The interface changes are directly related to the most important decision in WoW Midnight Pre-Patch — major Addon Updates. Addons no longer have access to most combat data, which means they cannot update information in real time during combat. This update changes the role of tools such as WeakAuras and, in fact, ends the era of complex custom triggers.
At the same time, Blizzard promises that there will be no complete ban on addons. Now they work on top of the built-in UI, changing the appearance and layout of elements, rather than the logic of combat.
📌 Addons like DBM will use new system timers, and some utilities that are not tied to combat data will continue to work as before.
Midnight Pre-Patch Transmog Updates
The transmog system is getting one of the most notable upgrades in WoW Midnight Pre-Patch. Instead of tying the appearance to each item, there will be a system of Outfits (saved appearance sets). The system is similar to the one already in the game, where you can save your outfit. However, the difference is that when you put on new items, their appearance will immediately be adjusted to match the saved transfigured look.
This is complemented by the Situations system, which allows you to change transmog depending on the conditions automatically. You can assign different Outfits for raids, PvP, mounts, or even specific specializations. Changing your appearance is now available at any time, so the character customization for transmog collectors becomes much more flexible and convenient.
By the way, transmog changes do not come alone. Haranir Heritage Armor can become a part of your transmogrification collection for a new race coming later in Midnight WoW.
What is Removed with Midnight Pre-Patch?
With the release of WoW Midnight Pre-Patch, The War Within Season 3 comes to an end, and with it, some of the seasonal content is removed from the game. This is standard practice before the release of a new expansion, so all raid, Mythic+, and PvP rewards tied to the season will become unavailable.
If you were planning to complete achievements or obtain cosmetic rewards, you will need to do so before the pre-patch is released. Also, you still have an opportunity to ask our team for the TWW Last Chance Bundle to get rare rewards before they are completely gone.

Midnight Pre-Patch Stat Changes
In WoW Midnight Pre-Patch, Blizzard is conducting another stat squish, the fourth in the history of World of Warcraft. All numerical values in the game are scaled algorithmically: item stats, damage, health, and other indicators are reduced for both players and opponents. At the same time, the relative strength of the characters is preserved — only the numbers change, not the actual effectiveness in combat.
✏️ In 12.0 Beta, these values are reduced significantly: health is measured in tens of thousands, basic characteristics in hundreds, and the Item Level of items drops to around 160-170.
The main goal of stat squish in WoW Midnight is to simplify the perception of characteristics, restore readable values, and reduce the visual overload of the interface. The difference between items and upgrades becomes clearer, and damage and survivability calculations become more transparent for players.
Midnight Pre-Patch Housing Changes
In WoW Midnight Pre-Patch, the Player Housing system appears in a stripped-down, introductory format for all players. Although we already know a lot about WoW Housing, several new features are being added in the pre-patch:
- Charter Neighborhoods — shared residential areas that bring players’ homes together;
- Neighborhood Endeavors — collective activities within the neighborhood;
- More cosmetic rewards and visual improvements to neighborhoods;
- Elven exteriors with Night and Blood Elf structures;
- Level 9 house upgrade.
Summing up, housing receives long-awaited progression, new interior and exterior features, larger spaces for decorations, and even more.
Midnight Pre-Expansion Event
WoW Midnight Pre-Patch will also launch the limited-time Twilight Ascension event, which will be available on January 27, 2026. The event takes us to the Twilight Highlands, where we will face a new chain of quests and world events related to the plans of Xal’atath and Twilight’s Blade.
During the event, you’ll farm Twilight’s Blade Insignia — a new unique pre-patch currency used for various rewards. You’ll need to complete quite a lot of quests and tasks to get as much currency as possible, or you can ask our team to do it for you.
We provide a detailed breakdown of the mechanics, rewards, and optimal farming in a separate guide.
Midnight Pre-Patch Class Changes
WoW Midnight Pre-Patch introduces the first major class changes. These changes affect every World of Warcraft specialization and lay the foundation for updated gameplay already in the pre-patch stage. The main class changes in WoW Midnight Pre-Patch:
- Completely new and reworked talents for all 39 specializations;
- Updated build logic with an emphasis on a clearer role for each specialization;
- Addition of a fourth column of Hero Talents for all Hero specializations.
It is important to note that the Midnight Pre-Patch allows you to test new talents in advance and adapt to the changes, but it does not reflect the final power of builds.
Keep in mind, that with the full release of WoW Midnight we will also get Apex Talents.
