4.9WoW Player Housing Release Date
WoW Housing Early Access started on December 2, 2025. Those who owned Midnight could claim a piece of land and decorate their houses ahead of launch. The Player Housing system came with World of Warcraft Midnight on March 2, 2026.
Player Housing is a permanent Midnight game feature rather than a one-time event. While non-Midnight players may earn eligible decor items, they will be unable to purchase or modify a house. You can also visit the WoW Housing Virtual Tour on the official website.
What’s New in WoW Housing in Patch 12.1
Patch 12.1 The Curse of Ula’tek brings WoW Player Housing Updates on August 11 and August 12, depending on the timezone. Almost all additions will come with the patch, but some of the Midnight Season 2 updates will appear a week later. The biggest WoW Housing additions in Patch 12.1:
- Housing Blueprints: Save, Import, Export, and Share complete houses or individual layout pieces;
- Pet Beds: Assign non-combat pets to indoor or outdoor decor objects;
- House Level 12: Get increased placement limits and access to Large Exteriors;
- Flexible Entry Room: Place entry room on any floor level you want;
- Decor Storage: The new PTR version increases storage limit to 10,000 items;
- New Decor Sections: Pet Beds plus Vines/Hanging Plants become part of the Decor UI;

How to Unlock WoW Player Housing
The first thing you need to do to unlock WoW Housing is own the Midnight expansion. The game automatically offers the opening quest after your first login. This short chain covers neighborhoods, plot selection, house purchase, and basic decorating.

The questline guides you through buying and decorating your first house. You can get two WoW houses in total for your Warband. One belongs to an Alliance neighborhood, while the other belongs to a Horde neighborhood.
Any Warband character can visit and edit both homes after purchase. A matching-faction character must handle the original purchase.
📌 Only an Alliance character can purchase an Alliance house. Only a Horde character can purchase a Horde house.
Keep in mind that each house plot costs 1,000 Gold. You pay this purchase cost once for each faction home. Decorating and moving do not add another plot fee.
How to Move Your WoW House
If you don’t like the location of your house in WoW, you can move it to another empty plot. Open the House Finder or visit the desired neighborhood. Click the new plot’s Cornerstone, then select the “Move House” option. Moving your house is free. The game transfers your interior and exterior layout without clearing the placed decor.
How to Visit Your WoW House
The quickest way to visit your WoW house is the Homestone inside the Housing Dashboard. It has a 15-minute cooldown. Select the correct faction home before using it when your Warband owns two houses.
Matching-faction characters can also use housing portals in the Stormwind or Orgrimmar portal rooms. Friends may enter through invitations and visitor permissions, regardless of faction.
How to Place Pets in Your WoW House
Patch 12.1 lets us add non-combat pets to WoW Player Housing through Pet Bed decor. All you need to do is acquire and place a Pet Bed indoors or on the plot. Then open its customization menu and assign a companion pet.
Indoor pets can remain stationary or roam around the place. Outdoor pets stay stationary, although their idle animations may still move them. Hunter pets do not use this housing system.
The current build supports up to 100 indoor pets and 25 outdoor pets. Pet Beds still consume decor budget. Players can assign the same companion to several beds.

WoW Player Housing Basics
Many generations of WoW players asked, “Is player housing coming to World of Warcraft?” The answer is finally yes. World of Warcraft Midnight Player Housing lets each Warband own and decorate permanent homes in Azeroth.
Player Housing has four connected parts: the neighborhood, plot, exterior house, and instanced interior. The neighborhood provides the social space, vendors, guests, and group Endeavors. Your plot holds the house and outdoor decor.
The interior uses a separate floor plan, so its size does not need to match the outside model. Players can build several rooms, add floors, and change the layout later.
Your houses are shared amongst your Warband with your different characters being able to come and go as you see fit (so your Orc character can hang out in your Alliance house without a problem). … Furthermore, it’s not just Warbands that cross factional lines but friendships as well, so you’ll be able to visit your friends’ or guildmates’ houses and their neighborhoods with minimal restrictions regarding faction.

WoW developers built neighborhoods around social play, but it’s up to you to allow strangers to have access to your home. Public, Guild, and Charter Neighborhoods offer different resident groups. House and plot permissions remain under the owner’s control.
WoW Player Housing Features
WoW Player Housing combines house progression, decor collecting, social neighborhoods, and freeform building tools. Most systems remain Warband-friendly, so alts can collect rewards and visit either home. The main WoW player housing features include:

WoW Housing Dashboard
The Housing Dashboard is the main interface for Player Housing in WoW. Its default keybind is H. The house selector in the top corner switches between your Alliance and Horde homes. The Housing Dashboard in includes:
- House Progress: Check House XP, current level, and unlocked rewards;
- Homestone: Teleport directly to the selected house;
- House Finder: Browse available plots and eligible neighborhoods;
- Endeavors: Track active tasks, timers, and Neighborhood Favor;
- Decor Catalog: Search collected and missing WoW Housing decor;
- Blueprints: Manage saved layouts after Patch 12.1.
The Decor Catalog also shows item sources and storage counts. It marks decor that grants House XP when learned for the first time.
WoW House XP
WoW Player Housing uses House XP for permanent home progression. Neighborhood Favor tracks the current Endeavor instead. These two bars support related activities, but they are not the same progression system. You can earn House XP through three main sources:
- Learn an eligible decor item for the first time to gain 10 House XP;
- Complete tasks tied to the active Neighborhood Endeavor;
- Loot the completed Endeavor Coffer for 250 House XP.
After filling a level, visit the General Contractor in your neighborhood. The NPC applies the upgrade and grants its rewards. Duplicate decor does not grant another 10 XP.
📌 The current House Level cap is 9. Patch 12.1 increases the cap to 12. New levels raise placement budgets and unlock Large Exteriors.
Decor collection XP applies to both faction houses. Endeavor XP goes to the house linked with that character’s active Endeavor. This split matters when you level two homes.
WoW Player Housing Quests
In WoW Midnight, housing provides local quests, treasure hunts, mail tasks, and rotating neighborhood activities. NPCs around the district offer decor, dyes, and other housing rewards. Some quests also unlock vendors that sell duplicate copies.
WoW Endeavors are timed themes shared by neighborhood residents. Regular gameplay and dedicated tasks add Neighborhood Favor. Completed Endeavors award Community Coupons, House XP, and themed rewards.
New Neighborhood Endeavors in Patch 12.1
Patch 12.1 adds four WoW Housing Endeavors:
- Knock-off Amani — Amani Troll theme;
- Candle Culture — Kobold theme;
- Every Bakar Has Its Day — Ohn’ahran theme;
- Vacation Season — Tortollan theme.
Knock-off Amani becomes the featured Endeavor when Patch 12.1 launches. Completed Endeavors may also add lasting visitors or details to the neighborhood.
WoW Player Housing Races
Midnight housing races add a quick side activity for neighbors. You help Vaeli, the Neighborhood Postmaster, deliver mail across ground-only courses. Each course tracks Gold, Silver, and Bronze completion times.
Housing races do not replace House XP farming or Endeavor tasks. Still, they provide a casual break when you already have several decor runs planned.
WoW Player Housing Settings
WoW player housing settings control the House Owner plus separate Plot and House Access permissions. You can allow everyone, block all visitors, or grant access to selected groups.
Available visitor groups include:
- Neighbors;
- Guild members;
- Friends;
- Party members.
Interior and exterior access can use different rules. Patch 12.1 also adds Blueprint export permissions, letting owners control who may copy their layouts.
WoW Housing Blueprints
Introduction of the WoW Housing Blueprints comes with Patch 12.1 where you can save or share your housing blueprints. You can do this by means of a special menu that is available in the Housing UI. The blueprints that you’ve saved are available at the Housing Dashboard. You can create Midnight Housing Blueprints in WoW for:
- The complete interior and exterior;
- The full interior;
- The full exterior;
- An individual room.
The current build allows 50 saved Blueprints. Ten extra auto-save slots protect older layouts during imports. Also, the game creates a backup before replacing your current build.
An imported WoW Housing Blueprint lists its required rooms, decor pieces, and placement budgets. Missing decor does not block the import. Those objects simply remain absent from the copied layout.
📌 Insufficient room, exterior, or pet budget stops the import. Exterior and full-house Blueprints remain faction-specific, while interior Blueprints work across both factions.
4.9WoW Player Housing Locations
Player Housing in WoW primarily serves the social function. Instead of putting all of the houses in separate menus, World of Warcraft organizes houses in persistent public and private neighborhoods. There are two WoW housing neighborhoods:
- Founders’ Point: This is the Alliance neighborhood and is based on Elwynn Forest, Westfall, and Duskwood;
- Razorwind Shores: This is the Horde neighborhood and combines Durotar, Azshara, and Forsaken dark themes.
Every zone offers private and public, or Guild and Charter neighborhoods. In the table below, you can see all neighborhood types for each WoW Midnight Housing zone:

WoW Horde Neighborhood
Razorwind Shores is the Horde Neighborhood in WoW. It has a traditional Horde look mixed with coastal elements. The zone combines Durotar cliffs, Azshara vegetation, and darker Forsaken-inspired corners. There are 8 flight points in Razorwind Shores for local travel. A central portal returns matching-faction characters to Orgrimmar.
WoW Alliance Neighborhood
The Alliance neighborhood is called Founder’s Point. Its warmer areas reflect Elwynn Forest and Westfall. Darker plots borrow familiar details from Duskwood. Founder’s Point also contains 8 flight points. Its capital portal returns matching-faction characters to Stormwind.
WoW Guild and Charter Neighborhoods
Both Guild and Charter Neighborhoods in WoW Midnight can be considered private, with a few essential differences:
- Guild Neighborhoods limit membership to those in the respective guild. The Guild Master establishes the neighborhood and gives administrative rights via guild ranks.
- Charter Neighborhoods are a specific type of private neighborhood. Potential residents require an invitation prior to getting an opportunity to settle down in a Charter Neighborhood. Those players who signed the Charter before the neighborhood was created instantly get an invitation.
Every neighborhood consists of 55 plots. For large guilds, the residents can be dispersed among multiple neighborhood instances once the space is occupied in one neighborhood.
WoW Public and Private Neighborhoods
With multiple neighborhood instances inside each zone, every WoW neighborhood contains 55 housing units. Players choose between Public, Guild, and Charter Neighborhoods.
Public Neighborhoods work well for players who want a plot quickly. Private Neighborhoods give groups more control over residents and administration. All three types support visits, vendors, and Endeavors.
WoW Housing Customizations
WoW Housing customization covers the exterior model, outdoor plot, interior floorplan, and individual rooms. Each layer uses separate choices and placement budgets. This makes small outside homes compatible with very large interiors.
The exterior uses faction-specific kits:
- Alliance: Human and Night Elf house kits;
- Horde: Orc and Blood Elf house kits.
Exterior menus cover the house size, base style, roofs, windows, colors, and fixtures. Patch 12.1 adds Large Exteriors through the new House Levels.
Inside, players attach rooms to available doorways and build across several floors. The room budget grows with House Level. Patch 12.1 also lets builders place the entry room on any floor.
WoW Housing Basic and Advanced Edit Modes
Basic Edit Mode in WoW Housing allows fast placement using grid, snap to grids, collision, and rotation. The decor placed on the furniture can be moved along with the parent object. This mode is ideal for neat rooms with little setup required.
Advanced Edit Mode removes most of the placement restrictions. Clipping the decor, floating the objects, resizing, and rotating on multiple axis is also allowed.
WoW Housing Decor Placement Limits and Storage
Every World of Warcraft decor item requires placement points, normally ranging from 1 to 5. The initial budget for decoration is restricted and later expands with new House Levels.
Decor items exist as tangible Warband items rather than being used infinitely. Placing four similar chairs requires four chairs to be obtained. An item put in one house cannot be placed in your second house simultaneously.

WoW Housing Dyes
Housing Dyes alter selected surfaces for the compatible decor. Some decor pieces require dying multiple slots, e.g., tables or chairs with both wood and metal parts, or elaborated curtains, etc.
The Patch 12.1 updates have removed the old dye system and organized colors into nine base dyes. Having one of the base dyes unlocks all the colors belonging to that type. Base dyes can be crafted by alchemists and scribes from Dye Stations.

Folk and Rugged remain two recognizable WoW Housing customization themes:
- Folk – Emphasizes a warm, homey look, with carved wood, cozy fabrics, and rustic accents;
- Rugged – Embodies a more hardened aesthetic, featuring rougher textures, sturdier furniture, and battle-hardened decorations.
Current interiors also support styles tied to Bel’ameth and Silvermoon. You can mix structural themes with unrelated furniture, wall hangings, lights, and plants.
How to Get WoW Housing Decor
WoW Housing decor comes from quests, vendors, professions, achievements, dungeons, raids, events, and the in-game shop. Collections are Warband-wide. Most characters can contribute without owning the house that uses the reward.
The first copy of many decor items grants 10 House XP. Extra copies still matter because every placed object needs its own item.

Blizzard places most well-known Warcraft decor behind matching gameplay. For example, Onyxia-themed trophies come from defeating Onyxia. This gives old raids another reason to revisit them. Old transmog farms can fit the same route. Players returning to Black Temple can also work on their Warglaives of Azzinoth collection.
Midnight Season 2 Housing Decor Rewards
Midnight Season 2 adds new WoW Housing decor through Prey, Delves, The Venomous Abyss, Altar of Fangs, and The Tidebound Grotto. The season starts on August 18 in North America and on August 19 in Europe.
Several rewards come from seasonal Journey tracks rather than random drops. This makes them easier to target, although players still need to unlock the matching Journey ranks.
