Midnight Leatherworking Overview

Midnight Leatherworking Guide

Leatherworking in WoW Midnight lets you craft leather and mail armor, armor kits, and special items. You can make gear for yourself, your group, or for selling on the Auction House. The profession also has tools and gear that improve crafting and make higher-quality items.

Materials for Leatherworking are easier to manage in Midnight. Recipes now use only two ranks of materials, and leather and mail recipes often share materials. This means you don’t need separate materials for every armor type, like in older expansions. You can gather materials through Skinning or buy them from vendors and the Auction House. WoW Leatherworking also includes optional items like housing decor and utility items.

Midnight Leatherworking Updates

Leatherworking in WoW Midnight is very similar to previous expansions, with only a few changes that make it easier to manage. Here’s a list of the key Midnight Leatherworking Changes:

  • Two Ranks Only: All materials and crafted items now only have two ranks instead of three. This makes it simpler to track your crafting and reduces the number of recipes you need to farm for leveling.
  • Leather and Mail Materials Overlap: Recipes for leather and mail armor now use a mix of hides, leather, scales, and chitin. You don’t need to worry about completely separate materials for each armor type, like in older expansions.
  • Decor and Lumber: At skill 80, you can unlock decor recipes for housing. These are expensive and not required for leveling, but if you want to make them for your house or to sell on the Auction House, start gathering lumber as you level.
  • Moxie Currency: You earn Moxie as you gain knowledge, which is used to buy new recipes. Moxie is profession-specific, so you can’t use leatherworking Moxie for another profession. It’s only used for buying recipes, not for crafting gear or recrafting items.
  • Epic Profession Equipment: All professions now have epic gear. Green (uncommon) and blue (rare) items can be sold on the Auction House, while epic items are Bind on Pickup and crafted through work orders. None of this gear requires Moxie.

📌 Leatherworking changes in Midnight make the profession simple, but still rewarding with good craftable items.

Midnight Leatherworking Materials

WoW Leatherworking uses a variety of materials to craft leather, mail, and special items. Most recipes now use just two ranks of materials, and leather and mail often share the same types.

You’ll also need some special items for high-level recipes or housing decor. Gathering or buying the right materials ahead of time will make leveling and crafting much faster.

Midnight Leatherworking Resources include:

These materials cover most of the recipes you’ll use while leveling and crafting in Midnight. You can obtain them from Skinning or by buying them from the Auction House. If you don’t have time, we can help you with Leveling Skinning as well.

Midnight Leatherworking Tools

WoW Midnight Leatherworking requires a few basic tools to craft efficiently. These tools improve your crafting results, help you make higher-quality items, and save materials when used correctly. Most tools can be crafted or bought from vendors and are easy to keep updated as you level.

Common Leatherworking Tools in Midnight are:

Having the right tools equipped makes crafting faster, gives better quality items, and helps you make extra items when using Multicraft or Resourcefulness bonuses.

Best Professions to Pick With Leatherworking

Leatherworking works best when paired with a profession that helps you get materials or make extra gold. The right combo can save you gold, speed up leveling, and make crafting much easier.

Best Midnight Leatherworking secondary professions:

  • Skinning: This is the best choice. Lets you farm your own leather and scales, saving a lot of gold.
  • Enchanting: This can be useful for disenchanting gear. This is getting extra value from items you don’t need.

The best and most popular combo is Leatherworking + Skinning, since it lets you farm materials and craft gear without relying on the Auction House.

Best Race for the Leatherworking Profession

Your race has very little impact on Leatherworking in WoW Midnight. There are no major races that directly improve crafting, so your progress mostly depends on your materials and Knowledge Points. Because of this, you can choose any race you like without worrying about losing efficiency.

Best Race for the Leatherworking in WoW Midnight:

  • Kul Tiran: Jack of All Trades gives +2 to all professions, slightly helps with leveling;
  • Tauren: Cultivation gives Faster gathering speed, useful with Skinning;
  • Highmountain Tauren: Waste Not, Want Not gives a chance to get extra materials while gathering;
  • Worgen: Flayer gives a bonus Skinning skill and faster skinning.

The difference between each race is very small, so it’s best to pick a race you enjoy playing without worrying about racial bonuses. Want to level a new character for Leatherworking? Check out our Powerleveling service.
