WoW Destruction Warlock in The War Within is a DPS machine, they provide the most effective burst on priority targets of all the Warlock specs. Add to that combat resurrection, Healthstones, summoning, and much more. In our WoW The War Within Destruction Warlock guide, you will find all the necessary information to master this specialization. By the way, read our Best Class For Your Guide to see what classes perform best in the current expansion.
Destruction Warlock Overview
Destruction Warlock is a flexible specialization, which has 2 primary resources: Soul Shards and Mana. When out of combat, Warlock has 3 Shards, while the maximum number is 5. Shards allow you to cast powerful spells and summon Demonic Pets.
Managing the Shards is an essential skill when playing the Destruction specialization. What concerns Mana, there are no specific peculiarities: you just use it on the majority of your spells and replenish with flasks and potions (or tasty buns, if you have a Mage friend).

Destruction Warlock Season 3 Changes
In WoW TWW Season 3, Destruction Warlock didn’t receive any major changes, except for a nice buff to various abilities and Hero talent nodes. These changes, however, do not affect either a playstyle or the performance of the Destruction Warlock in Patch 11.2.
Destruction Warlock Season 2 Changes
Destruction Warlock in Season 2 received minor changes to talents and abilities but gained a new tier set Spliced Fiendtrader’s Influence, which can be obtained from the new Liberation of Undermine raid.
Destruction Specialization Ability Changes
Destruction Warlock did not receive any changes to specialization abilities in WoW Patch 11.1.
Destruction Warlock Talent Changes
In WoW Patch 11.1, Destruction Warlock received several talent changes aimed at improving its performance in PvE content.
- New Talent: Demonfire Infusion — Periodic damage from Immolate/Wither has a 4% chance to fire a Demonfire bolt at 100% increased effectiveness. Incinerate has a 25% chance to fire a Demonfire bolt at 100% increased effectiveness.
- Dimension Ripper — Periodic damage dealt by Immolate/Wither has a 5% chance to tear open a Dimensional Rift. Now a choice against Dimensional Rift.

Destruction Warlock Changes In The War Within
Many classes and specs received major changes, and Destruction Warlocks were probably the ones who saw the greatest WoW Destruction Warlock talent tree restructure. A notable change is the removal of Demonic Circle as a baseline ability, now you need to spend a talent point to learn it. Additionally, new talents like Demonic Tactics have been introduced, while others such as Soul Link have been consolidated.
Aside from talents and abilities, you now have Warbands. This new feature is available for all classes. In fact, it’s account-wide. You can share resources, currency, and gear with all characters included in the Warband. To use this feature, you need to unlock the Warband Bank first by completing a specific questline. Our team already knows all the quests and the strategy to complete them, so to save your time reach out to our pro players.
Destruction Warlock Hero Talents
In WoW The War Within expansion, we received a new pack of Destruction Warlock WoW talents, presented in two notable Hero Talent Trees:
- Diabolist: this is a tree that offers damage amplification and shard generation, as well as increased AoE;
- Hellcaller: is better for those who appreciate buffed DoTs and want to benefit from the Shadowflame spell.
Changes to The Existing Abilities And Talents
Class tree changes have made certain talents more accessible but also introduced a more restrictive pathing system. Demonic Circle and other utility talents now require more careful selection due to the limited number of available points.
The Destruction spec tree was reworked to improve its versatility and effectiveness. For instance, Pandemonium and Cry Havoc were removed, Inferno was reworked for Shard cost reduction. Additionally, a few adjustments were made, such as moving Channel Demonfire and the introduction of Emberstorm, which now improve the effectiveness of key spells.
Some talents remain unchanged, but now they share choice nodes with different once, so don’t be shocked if you see a familiar icon on the unexpected place in your spec or class talent tree.

Looking at any piece of gear you’ll notice a bunch of numbers and words. These are WoW Destruction Warlock stats, and to choose the best gear we are usually looking for particular ones.
For a spec, who uses Cloth gear, the primary stat is Intellect. Secondary stats also matter, so your WoW Destruction Warlock stat priority should be:
- Intellect
- Haste
- Mastery
- Critical Strike
- Versatility
Critical Strike is important as it amplifies your damage or heal. Haste is also an essential stat, as it increases the speed of your spellcasting. Mastery allows your spells to deal 8% extra damage, and Versatility also slightly increases your damage, but this increase is not significant.
Destruction Warlock Leveling
Leveling a Destruction Warlock is a pretty easy experience due to its Demons like Summon Infernal, who can be a tank, while you are a DPS. Summon Voidwalker is another possible option. This helps to pull mobs, spam your damage AoE abilities and DoTs, and go on.
But, though easy, the process is not fast, as you should be careful and think about good positioning. A lack of defensive abilities is visible when running from a pack of furious mobs. If you still hope for faster leveling ways, our team can help you with Power Leveling.
Destruction Warlock Leveling Tips for The War Within
To level up your Destruction Warlock in The War Within, you can stick to one of the possible fast-leveling strategies:
- Questing. Choose Draenor or Legion timelines at Chromie and start a questline. In these two expansions, quest density is relatively high, so it’s a fast and easy way to level up any char. And you have a chance to explore the lore.
- Dungeons. This strategy is all about queuing and queuing and queuing… On your first runs, XP gain will allow you to get 1 level per dungeon, then the progress will slow down. But still, the XP gain in one dungeon equals completing 2-3 quests.
| Leveling Rotation | |
|---|---|
| Single Target | Dungeons |
| Immolate | Immolate |
| Chaos Bolt | Chaos Bolt |
| Conflagrate | Conflagrate |
| Incinerate | Shadowburn |
| Incinerate | |
Do not forget to cast Create Healthstone, either for yourself during quests, or for your dungeon instance group. Demonic Gateway will help you to travel faster, so make sure to use it on CD.
Moreover, you can use consumables to ease the leveling process:
- Gunshoes;
- Light-Step Hoofplates;
- Comfortable Rider’s Barding;
- Bear Tartare;
- Drums of Deathly Ferocity;
- Potion of Phantom Fire;
- Cosmic Healing Potion;
- Potion of Spectral Agility;
- Spectral Flask of Power.
