Welcome to the WoW The War Within Gearing guide from the Overgear Team. The War Within is here, and it’s high time to start looking for new sources of improving your character’s power. Gearing not only helps you to deal with harder trials but also allows you to smooth your gameplay to an appropriate level of difficulty. Speaking of gear, read our detailed The War Within Tier Set Guide to learn, which changes and appearances are waiting for you in The War Within.
There are normally several ways to obtain gear in WoW The War Within:
- Running dungeons and Raids;
- Crafting gear;
- Completing world quests;
- Fighting world bosses;
- Buying PvP gear;
- Gaining reputation rewards;
- Getting Weekly Cache Rewards.
Generally, the best way to gear up in The War Within is to stick to Mythic+ runs and Raids to loot your BiS, but there are a few reliable alternatives. We are going to look through them all and provide you with pro tips for improving the gameplay. Also, one of the first and easiest ways to obtain your first new gear is starting the Campaign. The items ilvl are relevant and this option is affordable to almost anyone.
WoW The War Within Dungeons Gear

Farming dungeons is one of many ways to get gear in The War Within. Dungeons come in 4 difficulty variations: Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and Mythic+. The higher the difficulty is, the better reward you get. You can start exploring dungeons straightaway when reaching level 80 and starting The War Within campaign. Together with pre-made teammates, or in Dungeon Finder, you will be able to experience this content and loot some good rewards.
Here’s an up-to-date item levels of the Season 3 dungeon gear:
- Normal Difficulty & Timewalking (Explorer 3/8 Gear);
- Heroic Difficulty (Adventurer 4/8 Gear);
- Mythic Difficulty (Champion 2/8 Gear).
In The War Within, the revamped M+ difficulty system allows you to get the best rewards from +10 Keystones, which also affects the WoW Great Vault rewards. Here’s the detailed table which provides data about all types of Dungeon Rewards in The War Within:
| Difficulty | Pre-Season | Season 1 | Season 2 | Season 3 | Great Vault |

📌 Note: The table will be updated when more Season 3 information becomes available.
Normal Dungeons
Normal Dungeons are a starter option. Completing Normals doesn’t contain any superior challenges, and in The War Within you can start it from level 70. In Normals, bosses normally drop 593 ilvl Explorer Gear, and there are no daily CDs. While this type of Gear is not the best, it can prepare you for the next step — Heroic runs. It can’t be considered a good source of gear due to its low quality and stats, and you will eventually want to replace it with better options.
You can complete the following dungeons on Normal difficulty:
- Ara-Kara, City of Echoes;
- Priory of the Sacred Flame;
- The Rookery;
- The Stonevault;
- Cinderbrew Meadery;
- City of Threads;
- Darkflame Cleft;
- The Dawnbreaker;
- Operation: Floodgate;
- Eco-Dome Al’dani.
Heroic Dungeons
A slightly better and a tiny bit more challenging variant than Normal mode dungeons. In Heroic Dungeons, bosses show some new abilities, but it is not enough to become a real challenge. You can loot Adventurer Gear 619 ilvl here once a day for every dungeon. This difficulty is only available from level 80, so you will not be able to complete any Heroic until reaching the expansion cap.
Since Heroics opens at level 80, in most cases, players prefer to skip both Normal and Heroic difficulty and jump straight into Mythic once they reach the highest level. Therefore, let’s move further and see, why it is so.
With the launch of the expansion on August 26, Heroic difficulty dungeons will be available to play. It’s a perfect opportunity to obtain a Heroic Dungeons Bundle, which grants you a chance to obtain the latest gear, and our pro players are eager to help you with it.
The rotation of Heroic Dungeons goes as follows:
- Ara-Kara, City of Echoes;
- City of Threads;
- The Stonevault;
- The Dawnbreaker.
Mythic Dungeons
Mythics is a place where players can face their first troubles and experience the joy of powerful upgrades (but not as powerful as end-game or BiS gear). Bosses and trash mobs’ abilities become harder to handle. At this point, following tactics is necessary to succeed. In Season 2 from Mythic 0 dungeons, you’ll receive Champion Gear 636 ilvl, which is already much better than any previous option. And the further the better.
As for the most beneficial Dungeon Difficulty that every WoW player wants to reach, we would like to outline a few points to remember when heading to the Mythic queue:
- Mythic Dungeons are only available for level 80 pre-made groups. You will need to use Premade Groups Finder instead of Dungeon Finder to lock in;
- There’s a weekly lockout for Mythic Dungeons. It means you can receive rewards only once a week per each boss.
- Completing a basic Mythic run will grant you access to the Mythic+ keystone and much better rewards.
Basically, Mythic dungeon is a portal to Mythic+, where your first powerful gear is acquired, so you will most likely only queue for this difficulty once or twice, and then switch to M+. Before you start M+ runs, you can get a cool Algari Dungeoneer achievement and a faster 636 ilvl gear with the help of our team, offering a professional helping hand.
Mythic+ Dungeons
Finally, the main source of gear, as well as BiS gear, for many players. Item level of rewards scales with key level. The higher key you run, the better rewards you get at the end of the dungeon and from the weekly chest. It has no lockouts, so Mythic+ can be farmed repeatedly.
Completing M+ grants you Mythic+ Rating and Great Vault rewards, which is also an extra source of the best gear. Once a week, you open the Vault and receive a random item depending on the amount and key level of the Mythic+ dungeons that you’ve completed during the previous week.
By the way, our detailed The War Within Mythic+ Guide shades light on all the aspects of the M+ in Season 3. In this guide you will find the detailed breakdown of the rotation, affixes, rewards and achievements.
📌 Note: Great Vault rewards do not include PvP anymore, thus, completing World Activities and Delves will now grant you items from the Vault.
In Season 3, you can not only gear up your character faster in Mythic+ dungeons but also become among the best players, who reached 2000+ Mythic Score, which comes with lots of rewards, like unique and rare mounts. Don’t waste your time on queuing, reach out to our professional players and get the KSM Master achievement + the excellent mount.
Valorstones Upgrade
In The War Within we receive a new currency — Valorstones with a 2,000 cap, which replaces Flightstones from the previous expansion. Valorstones, alongside seasonal crests, allow us to upgrade max-level gear. You can earn this resource by completing quests, raids, dungeons, battlegrounds, arena matches, and other activities at max level.
No matter the type and rank of the gear, all items can be upgraded with Valorstones. But the higher the rank, the more Valorstones are required, and also, you will need to farm Crests to be able to upgrade to higher ranks. To get all the detailed information on the gear upgrades, read our comprehensive Gear Upgrade Guide.
WoW The War Within Raid Gear
In The War Within, there are also 4 Raid difficulties, but they slightly differ from dungeons: Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic. Item level grows accordingly with the difficulty increase:
| Difficulty | Type | Bosses 1 | Bosses 2-4 | Bosses 5-6 | Bosses 7-8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LFR | Regular | 623 | 626 | 629 | 632 |
| Very Rare | — | 639 | 639 | 639 | |
| Normal | Regular | 636 | 639 | 642 | 645 |
| Very Rare | — | 652 | 652 | 652 | |
| Heroic | Regular | 649 | 652 | 655 | 658 |
| Very Rare | — | 665 | 665 | 665 | |
| Mythic | Regular | 662 | 665 | 668 | 672 |
| Very Rare | — | 678 | 678 | 678 |
Raiding is one of the most fun WoW endgame activities, yet also one of those that requires responsibility and knowing strategies. The War Within Season 3 begins in August, 2025 with the new raid opening its doors to us, and our pro players can get Full Raid Gear for you to prepare you for this new season.

WoW The War Within World Quests Gear
The War Within World quests will occasionally reward players with gear. The ilvl of the World Quest Gear is not anywhere near the best, but it’s a good option to prepare yourself for Heroic or M+ dungeons. To find world quests, just open your world map and look through the different zones that may bring some gear improvements for your character. These quests are reset each week, so if you complete them all at once, you’ll have to wait till the reset.
WoW The War Within World Bosses Gear
With tons of content already being presented, The War Within grants us World Bosses, that are found in the fixed TWW zones. There are 4 of them in Khaz Algar:
- Kordac, the Dormant Protector;
- Aggregation of Horrors;
- Shurrai, Atrocity of the Undersea;
- Orta, the Broken Mountain.
These mighty enemies drop nice items with decent ilvl:
- Dornish Warden’s Coat;
- Lightseeker’s Robes;
- Sturdy Chitinous Striders;
- Abyssal Tendril Tights;
- Girdle of the Gleaming Dawn;
- Crystal Star Cuisses;
- Deep Dweller’s Tabi;
- Stone Gaze Ceinture;
- Seal of the Void-Touched — Aggregation of Horrors;
- Seal of the Broken Mountain — Orta;
- Seal of the Abyssal — Shurral;
- Seal of the Silent Vigil — Kordac.
WoW The War Within PvP Gear
If you appreciate encounters where you can show your skill and defeat other players, The War Within PvP gear is definitely your choice. Also, Warmode items look good and grant additional bonuses in Warmode. This type of gear is usually obtained from specialized vendors for PvP currency, obtained in battles. Here’s the latest information about ilvl for PvP gear items:
| Crafted Gear | Honor Gear | War Mode Gear (Bloody Token) | Conquest Gear | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PvP | 606 | 665 | 675 | 678 |
| PvE | 545 | 597 | 632 | 636 |
For instance, the PvP vendors can be now found in Dornogal:
- Hotharn, Competitor’s Recipes;
- Gilderan, War Mode Quartermaster;
- Velerd, Honor Quartermaster;
- Lalandi, Conquest Quartermaster.
Hotharn, a Competitor’s Recipes vendor, also sells Vicious Jeweler’s Setting to add a socket to your PvP gear.
With current changes and the Warbands being introduced, Warmode currency is now shared for all the characters in your Warband. Thus, you can supply your whole “family” with PvP sets solely by your main character.
Honor Gear
The name speaks for itself: this type of gear can be obtained in exchange for special currency — Honor. The ilvl of the Honor Gear is expected to be 665, and in PvE, it’s 597 ilvl.
As we mentioned above, the Great Vault no longer grants weekly rewards for PvP, thus Blizzard reworked the system of PvP gearing. All the details are yet unveiled, but to balance the changes, they offered PvP recipes, which can be obtained from Hotharn, a Competitor’s Recipes vendor. A full list of recipes can be found below.

WoW The War Within World Events
Among the World Events, which can grant you a piece or two of worthy gear, the best current option is Delves. This activity counts as one of those that provide the Great Vault Rewards, so you can always ask for completing Tier 5, 8, or even 11 Delves to get the best items from the Vault. If you want to learn more about Delves in The War Within, read our detailed guide where you’ll find answers on all your questions.
WoW The War Within Weekly Cache Rewards
In Dragonflight, Weekly Cache was a valuable reward for completing a quest from an NPC in the capital city. Planting seeds, gaining reputation points, and other social activities were a fair price for a cache with a chance to get BiS items. In The War Within, this system remains with some changes, which Blizzard has revealed.
Thus, the first two caches you earn each week give you Adventurer gear, changing to Veteran gear since The War Within Season 2. Seasonal caches — Nanny’s Surge Dividends — used to drop Season 2 Veteran gear (ilvl 623) from the first two weekly caches.
You can get these caches from repeating sources like Earthen Theater, Awakening the Machine, Spreading the Light, Azj-Kahet Pacts, Special Assignment World Quests, and major weekly quests in Dornogal and Undermine.
Additionally, the first four caches you earn weekly will grant you 100 Coffer Key Shards, which you can combine to make a Restored Coffer Key for Bountiful Delves. This update will appear in the next build.
Cache contents are determined when you earn them, so open them right away. You don’t need to complete specific quests for Veteran gear. You can choose any two of six activities to earn your gear, and complete two more to maximize your Coffer Keys.
Thank you for reading our guide on How to Gear Up Fast in The War Within. We hope you found something useful here for you. We try to improve our readers’ in-game experience, and we understand that sometimes you don’t have enough time to spend on World Of Warcraft.
