Upgrade Restrictions – Gear Before Patch 9.0.5
Blizzard announced that any gear obtained before Patch 9.0.5 will not be able to be upgraded using Valor Points. This includes loot from the Great Vault obtained during the week of March 9th, 2021.
You can start upgrading gear obtained from Mythic+ the week of March 9th, and gear obtained from M+ Great Vault rewards the week of March 16th.
So the best way to upgrade Mythic+ items is to get as high item level as you can and to start pushing low lvl keys in order to earn Valor Points. Of course, if you have required achievements. Otherwise, it’s better to finish all 15 lvl keys on your main and only after that start leveling up you alt’s Mythic+ gear.
