Where to Get to Moss Giants in OSRS

Where to Get to Moss Giants in OSRS

Moss Giants appear in several locations across Gielinor, and each spot has different access requirements. The best place depends on your account type, travel options, and whether you want simple training, Slayer XP, or Mossy Keys.

Varrock Sewers (No Requirements)

Varrock Sewers are the easiest Moss Giants location for early accounts. Enter through the manhole east of Varrock Palace, then move through the sewer tunnels toward the moss giant area. This spot has no quest requirement, works for free-to-play players, and gives quick access to Bryophyta’s lair.

Travel options: Varrock Teleport, Chronicle teleport, or Grand Exchange teleport, then run to the sewer entrance.

Brimhaven Dungeon (No Quest Required, 875 GP Entry)

Brimhaven Dungeon has a good Moss Giant population and works well if you want more space than Varrock Sewers. You must pay Saniboch 875 coins to enter, unless you have permanent access or the right Karamja Diary reward. Bring an axe, since vines block parts of the dungeon route.

Travel options: Amulet of Glory to Karamja, Ardougne boat to Brimhaven, house teleport to Brimhaven, or fairy ring CKR.

Crandor (Requires Dragon Slayer I)

Crandor is another solid Moss Giant spot, especially for free-to-play accounts after Dragon Slayer I. Once you unlock access, you can reach Crandor through the Karamja Volcano dungeon route. The area is usually quieter than Varrock Sewers.

Travel options: Karamja Volcano entrance, then use the underground path leading to Crandor.

ℹ️ For efficiency with a Slayer task, Brimhaven Dungeon or Corsair Cove Dungeon are the strongest choices — less competition, decent density, and easy access to banking via their respective routes.

Catacombs of Kourend

Catacombs of Kourend are useful for Slayer tasks and passive Prayer XP through buried remains. The route is longer for newer accounts, but the location becomes better once you unlock Kourend teleports.

Travel options: Xeric’s talisman, Kourend Castle Teleport, or the statue entrance from Great Kourend.

Giants’ Den

Giants’ Den is one of the better member locations for Moss Giants. It has good density and usually feels less crowded than the beginner spots. It is also a strong option if you want to grind Mossy Keys with a cannon setup.

Travel options: Fairy ring DJR, then run south toward the Giants’ Den.

Moss Giants Combat Tips

OSRS Moss Giants Combat Tips

Moss Giants have 60 Hitpoints and a max hit of roughly 9. They’re weak to slash attacks. No prayer is required at moderate Defence levels — even mid-tier melee gear takes minimal damage per kill.

Notable DropBig Bones (1/1), Mossy Key (1/150)

Mossy Keys drops are worth collecting — they grant access to Bryophyta, a Moss Giant boss fight in the sewers, which drops the Bryophyta’s Essence (used to upgrade the Bryophyta set) and has a rare Rune Pouch drop at 1/118.

If your account still feels too weak for longer Moss Giant trips, a proper starter gear build can make the grind much smoother. Our OSRS Starter Gear Build service can help you prepare a clean early-game setup for Moss Giants, Bryophyta attempts, and other low-to-mid level combat tasks without wasting GP on random gear.

OSRS Moss Giants FAQ

Below are the most common questions about locating and farming Moss Giants in OSRS.

Where Is the Best Place to Kill Moss Giants in OSRS?

For early accounts, Varrock Sewers are the easiest option because they have no requirements. For members, Brimhaven Dungeon and Giants’ Den offer better space and more comfortable task grinding. Catacombs of Kourend also work well if you want Slayer XP and passive Prayer value.

What Level Should I Be to Fight Moss Giants?

Moss Giants are comfortable around combat level 40–70. Lower-level players should bring food, since Moss Giants are aggressive and can still chip away at your HP. At higher levels, they become easy Slayer or Big Bones farming targets.

Do Moss Giants Drop Anything Valuable?

Their steady value comes from guaranteed Big Bones and Mossy Keys. Big Bones give reliable low-level GP, while Mossy Keys unlock Bryophyta attempts. Bryophyta’s best unique drop is Bryophyta’s essence, not a Rune Pouch.

Can You Use a Cannon at Moss Giants?

Yes, a Dwarf multicannon can be used in several Moss Giant spots, including Brimhaven Dungeon and Giants’ Den. It speeds up Slayer tasks and Mossy Key farming, but it also raises your supply cost.

Is There a Moss Giant Boss in OSRS?

Yes, Bryophyta is the Moss Giant boss in OSRS. You need one Mossy Key for each attempt. Her lair is in the moss giant section of the Varrock Sewers, just north of the regular Moss Giants.
