After more than a decade of shaping how players experience combat in World of Warcraft, the team behind WeakAuras has officially confirmed that there will be no WeakAuras version for Midnight.
The announcement followed Blizzard’s confirmation that all combat-related addons will be removed from end-game content in Midnight. According to the WeakAuras developers, the new Addon API restrictions make core features like Conditions, Actions, and multiple triggers completely impossible to implement.
“As it stands, we do not expect to release a WeakAuras version for Midnight.” The team said in their statement. “The changes are unfortunately much more extensive than expected.”
Why WeakAuras Matters for WoW
For many WoW players, WeakAuras was more than an addon; it was the backbone of high-end raiding and PvP tracking. Players relied on it to manage cooldowns, buffs, debuffs, and even raid mechanics. Losing WeakAuras means that the Midnight endgame will have to be played with Blizzard’s default UI. Without the precision and automation that defined previous expansions.
The team clarified that WeakAuras for Classic will continue to be supported, as the API changes only affect the new expansion. Still, the message from Blizzard seems clear: the era of fully customizable combat addons might be over.
WoW WeakAuras Ripping the Band-Aid Off
Blizzard’s game director Ion Hazzikostas previously mentioned they wanted to “ease into” these API changes. But according to the developers, Blizzard’s current approach now feels like they’re “ripping the band-aid off” entirely.
In their post, the WeakAuras team shared frustration, sadness, and hope that Blizzard might reconsider the full scope of restrictions or at least restore access to personal combat states (like cooldowns or resources) that could allow a simplified version of the addon to exist.
WeakAuras What’s Next
The fact that WeakAuras will not make it’s way into Midnight doesn’t mean every addon will disappear. Most combat-related tools, such as nameplates, damage meters, and unit frames, will face similar limitations. Many other addon creators are now reevaluating their projects for Midnight.
WeakAuras remains one of the most used addons in WoW’s history. And its absence will mark a massive shift for both raiders and casual players alike.
