WoW Gold Swap Changes
Blizzard when players swapping gold

Blizzard has officially updated its trading policy, and it directly affects WoW The War Within players. As of April 13, WoW Gold Swaps with New Policy Changes are now strictly banned across Classic and Retail versions. This includes any gold transfers between Classic realms, Classic factions, or between Classic and WoW TWW.

Blizzard Says:

  • Can I trade gold with another player between WoW Classic and Modern?
  • Can I trade gold with a friend on another WoW Classic realm?
  • Made a deal with another player to exchange gold between factions on WoW
  • Classic but he didn’t hold up his end
  • I’m trying to trade gold to another realm in WoW Classic

Trading gold across WoW Classic realms or factions, or different versions of WoW (Modern to Classic), is prohibited. Such trades, particularly with those you do not know or trust, are often linked with gold selling activities, which contribute to realm economy issues, botting, and account compromises. Engaging in trades of this nature can result in account penalties, up to and including, account closure.

However, trades within the game’s systems, such as cross-faction or cross-realm trades in Modern WoW, are allowed. Battle.net support.

Previously, cross-realm and cross-faction trades were allowed, but risky. Blizzard warned players they wouldn’t recover lost gold or items from scams. Now, the new rule completely blocks these swaps. Trying to send gold from Classic to your WoW TWW account (or vice versa)? That’s no longer allowed and could get your account permanently banned.

This move is part of Blizzard’s effort to fight gold selling, account theft, and bot-driven inflation. According to the updated support page, these types of trades are often tied to economy-breaking behavior. In short, cross-version gold transfers are now seen as a threat to game balance in WoW TWW and Classic alike.

What This Means for WoW Players

WoW Gold new policy changes

If you’re transferring gold between WoW Classic and The War Within — stop right now. Under the new rules, this kind of gold swap is officially forbidden. Blizzard now treats any cross-version gold trading as a violation, with account bans on the table.

No matter how tempting it is to fund your TWW character using Classic gold, don’t do it. Keep all gold trades within the same game version, faction, and realm if you want to avoid serious penalties.
