Bungie’s most awaited flagship game, Marathon, made the fans interested — when, precisely, can we expect its release? Though the studio has not announced a definitive, official release date, after the gameplay reveal on April 12, 2025, all signs point to either April 27, 2025, or a 2026 release.
Bungie has confirmed that Marathon Alpha will take place from April 23 to May 4. It will only be available for North America.
The Marathon release is scheduled for September 23, 2025.
Bungie About Marathon Release
Game Director Joe Ziegler announced in the October 2024 dev update that the team will be introducing larger-scale testing in 2025. That could include a closed, maybe open, beta that will give players first-hand experience of the title a few months ahead of launch. Looking at the scope of changes made under the leadership of Ziegler, the team hopes to have a full launch at some point in 2026.
This comes after Bungie CEO Pete Parsons had earlier in 2019 indicated in an interview that a non-Destiny title would be out by the end of 2025. Since Marathon has been undergoing “aggressive changes” over the past few weeks, however, that earlier schedule seems to have shifted.
Marathon Release Date Speculations
In terms of the rumor mill, an eagle-eyed community had pointed out that the likely release date was going to be April 27, 2025. This theory is based on a date-like code that was purportedly displayed on a Runner’s leg during the reveal trailer. Bungie’s headquarters, however, is in the U.S., and the number is in UK-style. Therefore, the community views the theory as not having any basis, especially after the latest update from Ziegler.
It’s one thing for sure: the game development speed is really fast. So while we don’t have a formal date of release yet, the countdown has definitely begun.
