Bungie plans to launch its sci-fi extraction shooter Marathon before March 31, 2026. Sony shared this target during its Q1 FY2025 earnings call. CFO Lin Tao said the final date will be announced in the fall.
The game was first set for September 2025. Bungie delayed it after mixed feedback from a closed alpha. The studio also faced controversy over the use of unlicensed artwork. Since then, Bungie has extended the alpha, reworked factions, and improved AI behavior. Players can also expect better loot runs, more dynamic events, and a smoother solo or duo experience.
Marathon Development Updates
Sony says the team is fixing current issues and does not expect the Marathon to be canceled. Bungie is also raising visual quality, adding new narrative elements, and improving environmental storytelling.
The studio is slowly becoming part of PlayStation Studios. At first, Bungie operated independently after Sony acquired it. Now, it is moving into a structure similar to Naughty Dog or Guerrilla. Bungie or PlayStation will share a detailed update this fall. That could include the exact release date for Marathon.
