Bungie’s Marathon has gone through significant changes after receiving harsh criticism during its first playtests. The studio worked hard to address the main issues, and according to the latest leaks from closed sessions, Marathon has noticeably improved following its release delay. Bungie continues to run closed Marathon playtests. Based on insider reports, it has reworked core systems and added new features to keep players engaged.
What’s New in Marathon?
One of the biggest additions to Marathon is a new character, Icon, who comes with unique abilities: a grappling hook, an x-ray mode to scan for loot, and a drone that can steal rare items from rivals.
The Faction system has also been completely revamped: all six factions now feature fresh visual styles and cinematic introductions. Maps received major updates, too. First of all, the redesigned Outpost now includes dangerous environmental hazards. Also, the new Cryo Archive introduces puzzles and a key system for progression.
New Marathon Features Under Testing
Bungie is also experimenting with proximity chat in Marathon, smarter AI, and expanded narrative delivery. Interestingly, playtest participants have been rewarded with generous incentives, showing how seriously the studio is approaching the testing process.
Marathon doesn’t have a new release date yet. However, rumors point to a potential announcement at the upcoming State of Play. All signs suggest that Bungie is taking player feedback to heart and working to bring the project to a whole new level.
