Marathon New Closed Beta

Bungie has revealed the next closed technical test for Marathon, the sci-fi extraction shooter set in the same universe as the studio’s pre-Halo series. After April’s alpha, many players expected an open beta, but Bungie is keeping this one private once again.

The Marathon Closed Technical Test will run from October 22 to 28, 2025, and you can already apply for access through Bungie.net or request it via Steam starting October 13 at 10 a.m. PT. Keep in mind that participation requires signing an NDA.

“This test marks an important checkpoint,” Bungie said. “We’re evaluating improvements since alpha, including three maps, five runner shells, prox chat, solo queue, retuned combat pacing, and deeper environmental storytelling.”

Sony and Bungie appear cautious this time. Following a tough year, the plagiarism scandal, the project delay, and the rocky Destiny 2 expansion, the studio’s future depends on how Marathon performs. SIE CEO Hermen Hulst called the game “a very bold and deeply engaging title,” adding that Sony will monitor every stage of testing.

This limited playtest will be invite-only for North America and Europe, and no footage or impressions can be shared publicly. Still, it’s the best chance yet to see how Bungie’s long-awaited reboot is shaping up after months of silence.
