Two Diablo 4 Systems Receive New Content for the First Time Since Launch. The upcoming season of Diablo 4 is shaping up to be the game’s boldest overhaul in more than two years. Blizzard is preparing wide-ranging system updates that touch almost every core activity. Gear upgrading, the seasonal journey, renown progression, and combat tuning are all being rebuilt to support a more dynamic endgame. More importantly, Season 11 reintroduces forces that Sanctuary hasn’t seen since Diablo 4’s release, and brings two major additions that could hint at the future of the franchise.
Called Season of Divine Intervention, Diablo 4 Season 11 centers on a direct assault from the Lesser Evils: Andariel, Duriel, Belial, and Azmodan. The Lord of Sin is making his in-game debut this season, marking the first time players will face him inside Diablo 4. To counter this rising threat, the High Heavens are sending a new angelic ally, Hadriel, who grants Divine Gifts and empowers player gear through Sanctification. Both Azmodan and Hadriel are the first new characters of their kind to appear in any post-launch season.
First New Angel in Diablo 4 Since Release
The High Heavens are also stepping back onto the stage. D4 Season 11 introduces Hadriel, the first angel to appear in-game since Inarius in the base campaign. Hadriel supports players by offering Divine Gifts, which enhance builds against the Lesser Evils, and by unlocking Sanctification, a new system that applies a final, unchangeable empowered effect to any eligible item.
Hadriel’s presence is already fueling speculation within the community. Blizzard is rumored to be preparing the reveal of Diablo 4’s second expansion at The Game Awards, and some players believe Hadriel is the first tease of a larger angelic storyline. Datamined affixes on the Mythic Heir of Perdition reference bonus damage to both demons and angels, notable since no angel enemies currently exist in Diablo 4. If angelic foes arrive in a future expansion, Hadriel may be the first hint of a coming conflict involving the High Heavens.
Diablo 4’s First Post-Launch World Boss
Azmodan, Lord of Sin, joins the rotation as Diablo’s first new World Boss in more than two years. World Bosses have been a core pillar of Diablo 4 since day one, acting as massive co-op encounters designed for open-world teamwork. Since its launch in June 2023, the roster has consisted of only three fights:
- Ashava, the Pestilent
- Avarice, the Gold-Touched
- Wandering Death, Death Given Life
Azmodan Diablo 4 Season 11 finally expands that list. He will appear in timed spawns like the others, but Blizzard is adding a twist: players can manually summon Azmodan at a Hawezar altar if they collect specific seasonal materials.
Azmodan is also waiting inside Season 11’s Rank 5 Capstone Dungeon, where his encounter acts as the ultimate test of the Seasonal Journey. Once the season ends, he will remain permanently accessible in the global World Boss rotation.
