At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard has announced Monk as Hearthstone’s next playable class, ending a four-year wait for a new class. The Monk is planned to arrive in March 2027, with Blizzard promising to reveal more details about the class next year.
Monk Is Coming to Hearthstone in March 2027
Hearthstone Monk has been scheduled for March 2027. The class is the first new addition to Hearthstone since Death Knight joined the game with March of the Lich King in December 2022. Demon Hunter was the previous new class, arriving in 2020.
The announcement did not include details about its Hero Power, class mechanics, cards, or deck-building rules. Blizzard said more information about Monk will be shared in 2027.
Monk Will Be Hearthstone’s 12th Class
Monk has been missing from Hearthstone despite being one of the playable classes in World of Warcraft since Mists of Pandaria. With Death Knight and Demon Hunter already added, Monk and Evoker were the only regular WoW classes absent from Hearthstone.
The new class also explains some of the speculation surrounding Hearthstone’s 2026 content. Blizzard previously announced 12 Class Sets despite having 11 classes, which led players to suspect that a new class was being prepared. Blizzard did not use that announcement as confirmation, however, and the Monk reveal came later at BlizzCon.
Monk Details Are Still Unknown
Blizzard has confirmed the new Hearthstone class: Monk, and its March 2027 release window, but most gameplay details remain undisclosed.
For now, there is no confirmed information about:
- Monk’s Hero Power;
- Class-exclusive mechanics;
- First Monk card set;
- Starting or Core cards;
- Monk decks and their differences from existing classes;
- The exact March 2027 release date.
More information is expected during 2027 as Blizzard begins revealing the Monk’s cards and mechanics. Community speculation had already focused heavily on Monk before BlizzCon, but those earlier theories should now be separated from the details Blizzard has actually confirmed.
Hearthstone’s First New Class Since Death Knight
The Monk announcement marks Hearthstone’s first new class in more than four years. Death Knight launched with March of the Lich King in December 2022 and introduced its own Rune system, while Demon Hunter arrived with Ashes of Outland in April 2020.
The exact role Monk will play in the Hearthstone meta will depend on its Hero Power, class mechanics, and initial card pool. Those details have not been revealed yet.
