The Flametalon of Alysrazor is a rare 2% drop from the Alysrazor boss in Firelands raid. Thankfully, Firelands is a rather open area and the bosses there can be tackled in an almost any order, so if this mount is all you’re looking for, you can just go straight to Alysrazor, skipping all the other bosses.
This is what you’d think, since this is a bird mount, but no. Even though the very boss we fight to get this mount flies, the Flametalon itself does not and is strictly a ground mount. It’s worth mentioning that there’s another fire-bird mount dropping from the Firelands raid, the Pureblood Fire Hawk. And unlike the Flaemtalon, Fire Hawk actually flies.
Alysrazor is in the north-east of Firelands raid, near the Shatterstone. The raid itself is located at the south-west of Mount Hyjal, Kalimdor. To get there, just head to your capital city and look for the portal to the mount. Once there, fly south to the Sulfuron Spire, where you’d find the entrance of the raid.
The mount has roughly 2% drop chance. While far from the lowest drop rates in the game, it’s still quite low and can cost you dozens, if not hundreds of attempts before you get this mount. This is why many consider Black Market as a much faster and more reliable option to get this mount, that doesn’t require you to waste hours of your free time.
Firelands is easily soloable and if you’re well leveled and geared player, then soloing the raid shouldn’t give you any problems, even on heroic. That being said, neither the difficulty nor the raid size affect the drop chance of the mount, as it drops both on Normal and Heroic. But even if you can steamroll through the raid, sadly the random nature of the mount can still make the process of its acquisition quite troublesome.
