In Final Fantasy 14 Phantom jobs are additional jobs that provide bonus effects in the Occult Crescent zone. In this guide, we will tell you in detail about Phantom Jobs, how to unlock and use them. In addition, we will tell you which Phantom Jobs to choose depending on their purpose.
FFXIV Phantom Jobs Key Takeaways:
- Final Fantasy 14 has 24 Phantom jobs as of Patch 7.55.
- Patch 7.25 introduced 13 jobs, Patch 7.4 added three, and Patch 7.55 added eight more.
- Phantom jobs only work within the Occult Crescent and do not replace your main job.
- You unlock them through quests, soul shard purchases, and drops from critical encounters.
- North Horn enemies have elemental weaknesses, which make some Phantom actions deal more damage.
- Phantom Blue Mage learns most actions by watching specific enemy attacks before defeating their source.
Final Fantasy 14 All Phantom Jobs
In Final Fantasy XIV Phantom jobs are auxiliary jobs available only in the Occult Crescent zone. They provide a separate set of skills (also known as Phantom actions) that complement the main class and are levelled up separately.
Patch 7.25 introduced 13 Phantom jobs, while Patch 7.4 added Phantom Mystic Knight, Phantom Gladiator, and Phantom Dancer. Patch 7.55 expanded the roster again with eight North Horn jobs. There are now 24 Phantom Jobs in Final Fantasy 14.

How Phantom Jobs Work in Final Fantasy 14
Final Fantasy XIV Phantom jobs are based on professions from previous Final Fantasy games. Some jobs also exist as full combat classes, while Chemist and Geomancer remain Phantom-only options. Here’s how Phantom jobs work in FFXIV:
- Selection and activation. Select a job through the Occult Crescent HUD. You can place up to five Phantom actions on the duty panel or hotbar.
- Progression. Most jobs gain Phantom EXP from enemies and encounters. Freelancer levels through mastered jobs, while Blue Mage learns actions from enemies.
- Limitations. Phantom actions cannot deal critical or direct hit damage. Their damage scales with item level, up to item level 700.
- Phantom Mastery. Each mastered job adds one permanent stack. Every stack raises damage and healing potency by 2%.
Additionally, you should know that Elemental attacks against North Horn enemies can weaken them. Attacking with the right element will inflict additional damage, and therefore, elemental coverage is necessary for difficult pulls.
Also, Phantom Blue Mage is different from others when it comes to the loop of your progression. You have to observe the enemy using the attack and then defeat it to learn the move. These spells will be displayed in the Phantom Traits of the Phantom Job window.
Lastly, the process of job swapping becomes different in the Forked Tower. Normal Forked Tower: Magic allows players to change jobs outside the combat, but Extreme only allows for changes at the entrance of the instance. Remember, the system does not replace your Main Job in Final Fantasy 14. Phantom jobs only function inside Occult Crescent areas.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Jobs Ranking
The Final Fantasy XIV Phantom Jobs tier list does not use typical S/A/B tiers. Phantom jobs add specialized tools to your main job, so direct power comparisons rarely tell the full story.
| Best For | Phantom Jobs |
|---|---|
| Movement and Exploration (All-Around) | Thief, Ranger, Freelancer, Ninja, Dragoon, Red Mage |
| Sustain and Team Support (Support) | White Mage, Chemist, Knight, Bard, Geomancer, Oracle, Dancer, Summoner |
| Control and Anti-Mechanics (Utility) | Time Mage, Blue Mage, Red Mage, Oracle, Geomancer, Black Mage, Necromancer, Cannoneer, Gladiator |
| Elemental Weakness Damage | Black Mage, Summoner, Red Mage, Blue Mage, Ninja, Necromancer |
| Burst Damage and Fast Kills (Damage) | Samurai, Berserker, Cannoneer, Monk, Mystic Knight, Gladiator, Dragoon, Summoner, Necromancer |
This Patch 7.55 ranking groups every job by its strongest use. Several jobs appear twice because their kits cover more than one role. Early North Horn picks may shift as players test harder encounters.
With the right Phantom job in FFXIV you can farm Occult Crescent Pieces for Phantom Weapons and other rewards. Matching elemental attacks in North Horn can also speed up enemy farming.
Final Fantasy 14 All-Around Phantom Jobs
The All-Around Phantom jobs in Final Fantasy 14 are Jacks-of-all-trades. They combine flexibility and convenience instead of raw power for one job. These jobs are good and suitable for use when exploring or farming in Final Fantasy 14, especially if wearing the right Gear. FFXIV All-Around Phantom jobs are:
- Gladiator;
- Ninja;
- Red Mage;
- Blue Mage;
- Thief;
- Time Mage;
- Ranger;
- Freelancer.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Gladiator
Phantom Gladiator in Final Fantasy XIV is a frontline-oriented Phantom Job that emphasizes resilience and space control. It is suitable for players who want to stay in the thick of battle and reduce pressure on the team. Phantom Gladiator occupies an intermediate position between defense and attack.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Ninja
Phantom Ninja in FF14 combines ranged attacks, elemental damage, and strong personal defense. Smoke raises evasion, while Image blocks several physical attacks. First Strike also speeds up your opener, making Ninja comfortable for farming and mixed encounters.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Red Mage
Phantom Red Mage in Final Fantasy XIV mixes elemental damage with direct healing and enemy analysis. Occult Libra increases damage from attacks matching the target’s elemental weakness. This flexible kit works well when a party needs damage without losing emergency support.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Blue Mage
Phantom Blue Mage in Final Fantasy 14 learns most actions by watching enemies before defeating them. Its spellbook includes damage, party mitigation, and White Wind healing. The setup takes extra grinding, but the completed kit handles almost any North Horn situation.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Thief
Phantom Thief in Final Fantasy XIV is a job that can be characterized by one word — versatility. It’s excellent for mobility, exploration, and farming. Also, Phantom Thief improves movement, helps detect traps, and optimizes routes with chests in Occult Crescent. Phantom Thief has little direct impact on combat, but is one of the best options for loot runs and exploration.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Time Mage
Phantom Time Mage in Final Fantasy XIV is a nice pick if you need control or if you want to slow enemies. The job uses actions like Slow, Dispel, and can speed up allies, which is especially useful when learning mechanics.
Still, Phantom Time Mage is more of a tactical choice for difficult encounters, rather than a source of direct damage. With our exclusive Alt Job Leveling, you can easily level both old and new Phantom jobs, including the Time Mage.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Ranger
Phantom Ranger in Final Fantasy XIV combines mobility, accuracy buffs, and support defense. It is perfect for open areas and dynamic battles where it is important to move quickly and maintain stable DPS. Even though Phantom Ranger does not specialize directly in damage, it is useful as a flexible option for different situations.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Freelancer
Phantom Freelancer in Final Fantasy XIV is a unique job whose value increases as you unlock and improve other Phantom jobs. It offers simple utility effects and tools for exploration, but does not focus on combat. Phantom Freelancer performs well in farming, routing, and early system exploration.
Patch 7.55 raised Freelancer’s level cap to 24. Inquiring Mind grants several knowledge crystal buffs, while Wisdom on the Winds resets most job recast timers. Adaptable later allows Phantom job changes under conditions that normally block swapping, including combat.
Final Fantasy 14 Support Phantom Jobs
Support Phantom jobs for Final Fantasy 14 are meant to enhance the survival of group members. Such Phantom jobs can be considered perfect for the challenging occult crescent content, leveling, and the performance of the group members. The FFXIV Support Phantom jobs include:
- Knight;
- Chemist;
- Bard;
- Geomancer;
- Oracle;
- Dancer;
- White Mage;
- Summoner.
These jobs can also be considered Final Fantasy 14 Utility Phantom jobs thanks to their expertise in control, debuffs, and mechanics that are helpful during encounters. To make the process of choosing a Phantom job easier, you can level up 3 basic jobs with our Dawntrail Starter Bundle and try something new.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Knight
Phantom Knight in Final Fantasy XIV is a defensive Phantom job, meaning it’s focused on reducing incoming damage, shielding, and group survivability. You can pick this job in two situations:
- You want to play as Tank;
- You are afraid to fail during Occult Crescent content.
In a word, FFXIV Phantom Knight increases stability in combat, helps survive dangerous mechanics, and reduces pressure on healers. It is not a source of damage, but a reliable, stable and tough option.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Chemist
Phantom Chemist in Final Fantasy XIV is a purely supportive Phantom job. It allows you to add healing, resource recovery, and survivability to the party. It provides direct HP and MP recovery as well as resurrection, making it one of the most reliable options for random parties. Phantom Chemist contributes almost no damage, but is critical in case of mistakes.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Bard
One of the best support options is a Phantom Bard in Final Fantasy XIV. Phantom Bard strengthens the party through buffs, regeneration, and control of the tempo of battle. It is especially useful in organized groups and when completing difficult Occult Crescent content. Phantom Bard does not focus on personal DPS, but increases the overall effectiveness of the team, so it’s always a good pick.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Geomancer
Phantom Geomancer in Final Fantasy XIV is a flexible Phantom job capable of adapting to situations through defensive and buffing effects. It can provide shields, healing, movement speed, or damage buffs, making it useful in protracted battles. Phantom Geomancer is suitable for players who prefer a reactive style and team support.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Oracle
Phantom Oracle in Final Fantasy XIV is a complex Phantom job that combines control, support, and powerful situational effects. It can drastically change the course of battle by freezing time, buffing, and providing rescue mechanics. Phantom Oracle is a perfect choice for groups with good coordination and requires careful execution.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Dancer
Phantom Dancer in Final Fantasy XIV is a support-oriented Phantom Job based on mobility and team buffs. It boosts the party’s tempo and helps maintain the rhythm of battle in protracted fights.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom White Mage
Phantom White Mage gives any main job strong single-target and party healing. Occult Raise can revive allies affected by Resurrection Restricted, which matters during Forked Tower runs. Occult Blink also blocks one magical attack for a chosen party member.
Final Fantasy 14 Damage Phantom Jobs
Phantom jobs for Damaging in Final Fantasy 14 are centered around dealing a lot of damage in a short time. These Phantom jobs are most useful when playing aggressively, having a BiS Gear Set on, doing speed runs, or when quick elimination of mobs is a higher priority. FFXIV Damage Phantom jobs are:
- Berserker;
- Cannoneer;
- Monk;
- Samurai;
- Mystic Knight;
- Dragoon;
- Summoner;
- Black Mage;
- Necromancer.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Berserker
Phantom Berserker in Final Fantasy XIV is a risky Phantom job that grows stronger as chaos increases and health decreases. Berserker works well for players with enough experience, and who are willing to play aggressively and manage dangerous situations. Phantom Berserker can deal high damage, but requires precise control, otherwise it will quickly lead to the character’s death.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Cannoneer
Phantom Cannoneer in Final Fantasy XIV is a Phantom job specialized in applying preassure and debuffing enemies. This job can be used effectively in clustered fights as well as in Occult Crescent fights in mass encounters. But remember, Phantom Cannoneer lacks solid defenses, so it needs proper positioning.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Monk
If you want a damage-dealing option, go for Phantom Monk from Final Fantasy XIV. This is a melee Phantom class that operates on pressure and piling up damage buffs. It’s quite useful in prolonged battles and in active fights when you are in contact with the enemy at all times. Phantom Monk works well with aggressive gameplay, gives decent self-protection, but no team support whatsoever. It’s a safe pick if other roles are already ensured.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Samurai
FFXIV Phantom Samurai is a bursting class that specializes in rapidly destroying priority targets. This class is most efficient during short battles as well as when removing enemies who pose a significant threat.
Phantom Samurai is suitable for DPS classes and speed-oriented playstyles. In fact, Samurai offers little benefit to the group beyond damage but it’s very effective for farming Phantom Weapons.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Mystic Knight
Final Fantasy XIV Phantom Mystic Knight utilizes both the use of weaponry and magic buffs. It is one such choice that provides an element of versatility to attacks. The Magic Shell skill helps take on chances with pull strategies, while Blazing Spellblade gives a sustained damage buff.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Dragoon
Phantom Dragoon is a mobile damage option built around Occult Jump and Step Forth. Lance also heals you and converts excess recovery into a barrier. It works well when fights demand quick repositioning without dropping pressure.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Summoner
Phantom Summoner brings large elemental casts and a party barrier through Earthen Wall. Hellfire, Judgment Bolt, and Thunderstorm reward matching enemy weaknesses. Megaflare is the fun part: a slow cast with large AoE damage.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Black Mage
Phantom Black Mage focuses on fire, ice, and lightning bursts against elemental weaknesses. Occult Toad can shut down susceptible targets, while Occult Flare handles clustered enemies. Pick it when your group already has healing and wants clean ranged damage.
Final Fantasy 14 Phantom Necromancer
Phantom Necromancer trades health for wide elemental attacks and dangerous control effects. Drain Touch prevents most attacks from reducing you below one HP for six seconds. Its other spells inflict Doom on the caster, so quick healing decides whether the risky burst works.
