WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Overview
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron is a new dungeon built inside the old capital of Lordaeron, which was never open as an instance in Classic. The Scourge forces left over from the Third War still threaten the Forsaken here, and an unholy fog over Lordamere Overlook hides their movements. Horde players come to help the Forsaken clear the Scourge from the ruins above their own city, while Alliance players sneak in on orders from Stormwind City.
For Horde characters, WoW Forever RoL joins Ragefire Chasm and Wailing Caverns among the first available group dungeons. The recommended range is 15–20, and all dungeon quests become available at level 15. Use these WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron facts to plan your group:
| Parameter | Ruins of Lordaeron |
|---|---|
| Level Range | 15–20 |
| Location | Ruins above Undercity, Tirisfal Glades |
| Group Size | 5 players |
| Bosses | 6, plus 1 rare spawn |
| Quests | 6 for Horde, 4 for Alliance |
| Loot | 20 boss and rare items (Bind on Pickup), 2 blueprints, 5 trash drops (Bind on Equip), 1 item set |
By the way, if your Horde character has finished the ruins, Wailing Caverns in the Barrens is the next dungeon for levels 17–24. Our WoW Forever Wailing Caverns run covers it from start to finish.
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Location
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron location is the ruined capital above Undercity, south of Brill in Tirisfal Glades. To reach the entrance, follow these steps:
- From Brill, follow the road south to the walls of the ruined city;
- Enter the open Ruins of Lordaeron area above Undercity;
- Walk toward the ruined courtyard that leads to the Undercity elevators;
- Look to the left of the courtyard gate. The dungeon portal stands there, at about 70.3, 11.1 on the Undercity map.
Horde players have the shortest trip, because Undead characters start next door at Deathknell. Everyone else can take the zeppelin from Orgrimmar to Tirisfal Glades or fly to Michael Garrett, the flight master at 62.9, 48.2 in Undercity. From the flight point, take the elevator up and walk out to the courtyard gate.
Alliance players need a long route through enemy land, which includes the following steps:
- Take the boat from Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine in Darkshore;
- Sail from Auberdine to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands, and stay on board until the ship reaches Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills;
- Follow the road to Hillsbrad Fields and keep going north past the walls of Dalaran;
- Swim north across Lordamere Lake along Silverpine Forest until you reach Tirisfal Glades;
- Follow the road to the ruins and the courtyard gate.
Skyborne players from the Alliance can skip most of this trip, since the portal in the Mage Tower of Stormwind City takes them straight to Dalaran. From there, only the swim across the lake and the road through Tirisfal Glades remain.
✏️ Forsaken guards in Brill and around the ruins will attack an Alliance character on sight. It is advisable to unequip your gear before you run past them, because each death takes durability from the items you are wearing.
For Alliance characters, the Deadmines in Westfall is the closest dungeon of a similar level that does not require a trip through Horde land. If you’d rather not search for a group there, our WoW Forever Deadmines Boost covers the full run with every quest inside done.
Read more about routes between the capitals in our WoW Forever Traveling Guide.
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Map
The map of WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron is an open city with several streets, so the bosses do not have to be killed in a fixed order. Two of them appear only after an event, and the rare spawn shows up at the very end. The list below follows the city from the entrance to the center:
- King’s Alley: Witherfang patrols near the entrance with a group of spiders, so she is the closest boss to the entrance.
- Southeast hallway: The Baron waits at the end of a hallway in the southeast part of the city.
- Lordamere Overlook: Viktor the Vile is an optional boss in the southwest, and you summon him from the Grim Campfire inside a ruined house near the Lordaeron Graveyard.
- Market Street: The Abandoned appears in the west after you walk up a corridor to a statue with glowing red eyes.
- Northwest corridor: Bjork stands at the end of this corridor, and a small temple behind his area is one of the places where the Crest of Lordaeron can appear.
- City center: Rath’mael stands in the middle of the city, and you’ll need to clear the mobs that guard him.
After every other boss is dead, the Lordaeron Captain has a chance to spawn in the west part of the city. Since he is friendly to the Alliance, only a Horde group can fight him. His spawn point is not fixed, so the quickest way to check for him is a /target Lordaeron Captain macro.
In case your group wipes and nobody can cast a resurrection, the Spirit Healer stands at 60.8, 58.8 in Tirisfal Glades, a short run from the ruins. Priests, Druids, and Shamans learn a resurrection spell early, while Paladins have to complete a class quest first. If your Paladin healer still lacks it, our WoW Forever Class Quests service unlocks the spells no trainer sells.
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Quests
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron quests include six Horde questlines and four Alliance questlines. All become available at level 15, although some continue through several follow-up quests. Horde players should complete four quests in Brill, Undercity, and Silverpine Forest before entering. Every Alliance quest starts inside; the table below lists all Ruins of Lordaeron quests and their rewards.
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Quests for Both Factions
There is one WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron quest for both factions, Crest of Lordaeron, and it starts from an item you find inside the dungeon. The Crest of Lordaeron has no fixed spot, so the group should check these places during the clear:
- Behind an interactive door near the area of The Baron.
- Inside a building or tower next to the patrol path of Bjork.
- Along the city walls where gargoyle mobs stand guard.
- On a wall of the small temple past Bjork.
Horde players deliver the Crest of Lordaeron to Oran Snakewrithe in Undercity. Alliance players take their Crest of Lordaeron to Lady Dena Kennedy in Stormwind City. Both versions reward a Small Sack of Gems, so check the possible spawn points before leaving.
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Horde Quests
Horde quests in WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron are spread across three zones, and four of them have to be picked up before you enter the portal:
- The Wrath of Rath’mael: Deathguard Kristof at 65.2, 60.2 in Brill asks you to kill Rath’mael, the necromancer behind the fog over Lordamere Overlook. Both of his rewards are item level 24 two-handers, and they also give 2% movement speed in Silverpine Forest and Hillsbrad Foothills.
- A Frightened Request: Tabitha Heartweaver waits at 44.6, 42.8 in The Sepulcher, Silverpine Forest. You will find her husband Edward Heartweaver next to Rath’mael by the Lordaeron Graveyard.
- Light’s Justice: Morbin Lightbane in the Apothecarium of Undercity, at 57.8, 89.8, needs 25 Intact Limbs. Skeletons, ghouls, and most other undead in the dungeon drop them, so this objective fills up during a normal clear.
- The New Plague: Theodore Griffs at 47.0, 72.6 in Undercity wants the Highly Toxic Strain from Witherfang.
- Unending Torment: this chain starts from the Abominable Head that drops from The Baron. After you deliver it to Master Apothecary Faranell, the second part takes four short steps inside Undercity before the reward.
Collecting all four outside quests means a round trip between Brill, The Sepulcher, and Undercity before the run. If you’re short on time, our WoW Forever Hourly Driving lets a pro player pick up quests, run dungeons, or farm on your character for as many hours as you need.
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Alliance Quests
All Alliance quests in WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron begin inside the dungeon, so Alliance players don’t have to collect anything beforehand. Three of them send you to Stormwind City, and one of these continues to Duskwood:
- Abominable Creatures: Captain Truman at the entrance asks for the Head of the Baron. It drops from The Baron only about 15% of the time, so it may take more than one run.
- Bloodied Insignia: the first Bloodied Insignia drops from undead mobs and starts the quest. You will need 10 of them for General Marcus Jonathan in Stormwind City. This quest also gives 45 silver, which no other Alliance quest here does.
- Remember That I Love You: the Blood-Stained Letter lies by the graveyard near Rath’mael. You bring it to Orphan Matron Nightingale in Stormwind City for 6,200 XP. She then sends you to Avette Fellwood in Duskwood, who adopted young Jeremy Heartweaver, and the second part rewards the Tarnished Locket.
The long trip from Stormwind City and back makes these 22,500 XP slow to earn for an Alliance character. To skip this part of leveling to 60, you can order our WoW Forever Power Leveling, and verified pros will level your character for you.
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Bosses
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron bosses are six elite fights with one to three abilities each, plus a rare spawn that only Horde groups can attack. The hardest parts of the run are the add waves before Viktor the Vile and The Abandoned. Since the bosses range from level 17 to 20, a group at level 18 or higher will have a much easier time with Rath’mael. Here are the bosses in the order of the route from the entrance:
- Witherfang;
- The Baron;
- Viktor the Vile (optional event);
- The Abandoned (event);
- Bjork;
- Rath’mael;
- Lordaeron Captain (rare, Horde only).
Witherfang
Witherfang is a level 17 spider boss who patrols King’s Alley near the entrance together with two spider adds. Her only ability is Leech Poison, which drains 15 Health from the tank every 5 sec for 40 sec and heals her for the same amount.
Clear the other spider packs in the courtyard first, or they will join the fight. On the pull, kill the two adds as fast as you can, and stun them if your group has stuns. After that, the boss is a simple tank-and-spank fight. A Druid, Paladin, or Shaman can remove the poison from the tank. At this level, a Paladin uses Purify from level 8, a Druid uses Cure Poison from level 14, and a Shaman uses Cure Poison from level 16.
The Baron
The Baron is a level 17 abomination at the end of the southeast hallway, and a patrol of skeletons walks past his room.
His main ability is Knockout, an instant attack on the tank that deals high damage, throws the target into the air, and stuns them for several seconds. The tank also loses threat, so the boss may turn to a DPS player.
Kill the patrol before you pull, because a stunned tank can’t pick up extra mobs. The DPS should watch their threat after each Knockout, and a stun stops him from using it while it lasts. Right after the stun ends, the tank should taunt him back. When he dies, Horde players loot the Abominable Head and Alliance players look for the Head of the Baron.
Viktor the Vile
Viktor the Vile is an optional level 19 boss. He appears only after you light the Grim Campfire in the fireplace of a ruined house in southwest Lordamere Overlook, close to the Lordaeron Graveyard. The event spawns five waves of skeletons before Viktor himself comes out.
These waves are the hardest part of this fight. Your healer will spend a lot of Mana on them, so DPS players should use bandages, Health potions, and self-healing to lower the amount of healing the healer has to do. Viktor fights with heavy melee hits and Leech Poison. Let the tank build threat for a few seconds before the DPS open up, and remove the poison as you would on Witherfang.
The Abandoned
The Abandoned is a level 18 Undead boss that you summon by walking up a corridor to a statue with glowing red eyes, as you enter Market Street from Lordamere Overlook. Three waves of adds come first, and then the boss joins the fight with these abilities:
- Frost Nova: deals Frost damage to the whole group and roots players for up to 8 sec.
- Life Drain: a 2-sec cast on the tank that drains Health and heals the boss, and you can interrupt it or stun him.
- Chill effect: every player who hits him in melee gets a chill effect.
Keep an interrupt ready for every Life Drain because it heals the boss. Good options are Earth Shock from level 4, as well as Kick and Shield Bash from level 12. Also, the healer should save some Mana for the boss, because the add waves and the group-wide Frost damage both drain it quickly.
Bjork
Bjork is a level 19 Undead boss at the end of the northwest corridor, and he patrols part of his area. He is mostly a simple tank fight, although he has three things to watch for:
- Knockback: throws the tank back, which can land them in a pack nobody has pulled yet.
- Anti-Magic Shield: A 2-second cast grants magic immunity for 3 seconds. Casters should refresh buffs, heal, or wait until the shield expires.
- Heavy blows: his melee attacks hit hard, so the healer should keep the tank topped up.
Clear the packs around Bjork before the pull and keep the tank’s back to a wall. On your way out, check the building near his patrol path and the small temple behind him for the Crest of Lordaeron.
Rath’mael
Rath’mael is the level 20 necromancer in the center of the city and the leader of the Scourge in Ruins of Lordaeron. He has the largest Health pool in the dungeon. The mobs around him have to be cleared before you can engage him. His only ability is Flamestrike, a channel that always lands where the tank stood when it began. It deals heavy Fire damage, and you can interrupt it or stun the boss.
Assign two players to interrupt Flamestrike in turns, because a single missed kick can hit everyone standing near the tank. The tank should step out of the fire as soon as the channel starts. After the kill, Horde players can find Edward Heartweaver for A Frightened Request, and Alliance players can pick up the Blood-Stained Letter nearby.
Lordaeron Captain
Lordaeron Captain is a level 19 rare spawn that may appear in the west part of Ruins of Lordaeron after all other bosses are dead. He is friendly to Alliance characters, so only a Horde group can attack him. His long patrol route passes many packs, which is the main danger. Otherwise, he is a simple tank fight, so clear the street before you pull him.
Need the whole dungeon cleared without the group search? Our WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Boost is available from level 15. Verified pros clear the ruins in about 45 minutes.
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Trash Mobs
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron trash can be dangerous, since the city streets are full of patrols and packs stand close to each other. Almost every enemy here is an elite Undead or Beast. Here are the mobs to watch during the clear:
- Spiders: Venom Lurker, Spider, and Tarantula packs fill the area around Witherfang, and some of them patrol. Clear the patrols first, because they will join any pull near their path.
- Skeletal Soldier: soldiers hit hard and come in large packs near The Baron. Stuns like Hammer of Justice make these packs much safer for the tank.
- Shrieking Banshee: banshees silence players and usually stand with the soldiers, which makes them the first target for casters and healers.
- Flesh Golem: golems patrol Lordamere Overlook, deal heavy damage, and use Knock Away to reset threat. Fight them with the tank’s back to a wall, so the knockback cannot throw anyone into another pack.
- Ghouls: Ghoul and Ragged Ghoul packs of three or four swing hard and stand close to other groups. It’s easy to pull two packs at once here.
Most of these enemies are Undead, so Shackle Undead from a Priest at level 20 works on nearly every pack. The skeletons and zombies also drop the Intact Limbs and Bloodied Insignia needed for quests, so a full clear is better than skipping packs.
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Loot
WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron loot includes 20 Bind on Pickup gear drops and two profession blueprints. Regular boss gear ranges from item level 20–24 and requires level 15–19. The Lordaeron Captain drops item level 27 gear that requires level 22. Trash mobs add five Bind on Equip items, including three pieces of Rotmender’s Raiment.

WoW Forever Rotmender’s Raiment Set
WoW Forever Rotmender’s Raiment is a five-piece cloth set for healers, and every piece of it drops in Ruins of Lordaeron. The leggings come from The Abandoned and the boots from Rath’mael, while the other three pieces can drop from any enemy in the dungeon. Here are the parts and the set bonuses:
| Piece | Slot | Source | Binding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rotmender’s Garb | Chest | Any enemy | Bind on Equip |
| Rotmender’s Sash | Waist | Any enemy | Bind on Equip |
| Rotmender’s Gloves | Hands | Any enemy | Bind on Equip |
| Rotmender’s Leggings | Legs | The Abandoned | Bind on Pickup |
| Rotmender’s Treads | Feet | Rath’mael | Bind on Pickup |
The set grants the following bonuses:
- 2 pieces: +5 Shadow Resistance.
- 3 pieces: +10 Intellect.
- 4 pieces: when your Mana drops below 15%, you restore 200 Mana over 10 sec, or twice as much in Haunted and Wasteland areas, with a 5-min cooldown.
- 5 pieces: your healing spells have a chance to heal the target for an additional 40 Health every 3 sec for 15 sec.
Since the Garb, Sash, and Gloves are Bind on Equip, players can sell them on the Auction House. To skip farming trash for a random drop, you can buy WoW Forever Gold and pick up the missing pieces there.
Best WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron Quest Rewards
The best WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron quest rewards are the item level 24 weapons from Horde quests, although Alliance players also get a few strong pieces. Here’s a comparison of the most useful quest items:
| Item | Type | Quest | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gnarled Necromancer’s Staff | Two-Hand Staff | The Wrath of Rath’mael | Horde, +10 Spirit, +26 Spell Power |
| Forsaken Greataxe | Two-Hand Axe | The Wrath of Rath’mael | Horde, +8 Strength, +4 Stamina |
| The Stitcher | One-Hand Mace | Light’s Justice | Horde, +30 healing, +10 damage |
| Slain Baron’s Signet | Ring | Abominable Creatures / Unending Torment | Both, +3 Stamina, +1 Defense |
| Remembrance Armor | Mail Chest | Bloodied Insignia | Alliance, +5 Stamina, +3 Strength, +3 Intellect |
| Tarnished Locket | Neck | Remember That I Love You | Alliance, +6 Stamina, -3 Strength |
Casters and healers on the Horde side can use Gnarled Necromancer’s Staff and The Stitcher because both give Spell Power or healing, while Warriors and Paladins can take Forsaken Greataxe for its Strength. Also, the ring from Abominable Creatures and Unending Torment is a good early pick for tanks, because it gives +3 Stamina and +1 Defense.
Best Group Setup for WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron
The best group setup for WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron is one tank, one healer, and three DPS, with at least two interrupts in the group. The dungeon has many casters and long add waves, so it is very helpful to bring the following:
- Interrupts: a Shaman, Rogue, or Warrior can stop Life Drain from The Abandoned and Flamestrike from Rath’mael. Earth Shock is available from level 4, while Kick and Shield Bash come at level 12.
- Poison removal: a Druid, Paladin, or Shaman keeps Leech Poison off the tank on Witherfang and Viktor the Vile with Purify (level 8), Cure Poison (Druid, level 14), or Cure Poison (Shaman, level 16).
- Crowd control for Undead: Shackle Undead from a level 20 Priest handles most packs here, while Hammer of Justice stops a dangerous Skeletal Soldier.
- Healer with spare Mana: the waves before Viktor the Vile and The Abandoned drain the healer quickly. A Priest, Paladin, or Druid healer will also want the Rotmender’s Raiment pieces from this run.
In WoW Forever RoL, give your healer time to drink before starting either event’s add waves. Check the healer’s Mana before triggering the next encounter. Our WoW Forever Best Healers ranking compares the healing options for your next dungeon group.
For Horde players, the next dungeon after Wailing Caverns is Shadowfang Keep in Silverpine Forest, just south of Tirisfal Glades. Our WoW Forever Shadowfang Keep service clears every boss down to Arugal with all quests done, so you can keep the gear for your spec without the group search.
