HOME WoW Forever Professions WoW Forever Profession Changes

WoW Forever profession changes keep the familiar Classic recipes and skill ranks, and they add camp objects, Legacy points, a trade reputation, and over 600 new recipes. This guide lists every system-level change first and then goes through all twelve professions one by one, from Alchemy to Fishing. It’s written for Classic players who want to know what is different and for new players who are choosing their first profession pair.

WoW Forever Professions Changes Key Takeaways:

  • Professions in WoW Forever still use fixed materials and fixed item stats, and each character can learn two primary professions plus Cooking, First Aid, and Fishing.
  • Blizzard added over 600 new recipes across all level ranges, so crafted gear from Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, and Tailoring is useful during leveling.
  • Every profession has three camp objects, and most of them give a buff that does not stack with the matching class buff.
  • Reaching 150, 225, and 300 in each crafting profession gives one Legacy point the first time you do it on your account.
  • Healing Potions moved from Alchemy to First Aid, and Cooking food now adds 5% experience from kills.
  • The Azeroth Commerce Authority and Durotar Supply and Logistics sell profession recipes for Merchant’s Favor.

WoW Forever Professions Changes Overview

WoW Forever Profession Changes

Profession changes in WoW Forever add new systems around the Classic professions, so the twelve professions, the 300 skill cap, and the trainer ranks are the same as before. Crafting also works the old way: every recipe has a fixed list of materials, and a crafted item always has the same stats. Here’s how WoW Forever professions compare with WoW Classic:

TopicWoW ClassicWoW Forever
Profession Slots2 primary + 3 secondary2 primary + 3 secondary
Skill Cap300300
New RecipesNoneOver 600 across all level ranges
Camp ObjectsNone3 per profession, placed at a Campfire
Legacy PointsNone1 point at 150, 225, and 300 in each crafting profession
Trade ReputationNoneAzeroth Commerce Authority / Durotar Supply and Logistics
Healing PotionsAlchemyFirst Aid
Cooking FoodWell Fed stat buffWell Fed stat buff + 5% experience from kills
First Gathering ProfessionLearned from a city trainerStarting-zone quest gives a manual
Reagent BagNoneCrafted by Tailoring and Leatherworking
Profession Racials+15 skill for Tauren and GnomesReworked into new effects

The main practical difference is timing. In Classic, most crafted gear only became worth the effort near level 60, while WoW Forever gives every crafting profession useful recipes from the first skill levels. As a result, leveling a profession together with your character pays off earlier than in Classic.

WoW Forever Profession Ranks

WoW Forever Profession Changes

WoW Forever profession ranks are the same four steps as in Classic, from Apprentice to Artisan, and each rank raises your maximum skill by 75. You learn every new rank from a trainer once your skill and character level are high enough. The table below shows the requirements for each rank:

RankSkill RangeLearn From SkillCharacter LevelTraining Cost
Apprentice1-75—No requirement9–10 copper
Journeyman50-1505010~1 silver
Expert125-2251252050 silver
Artisan200-300200355 gold

Training costs for each rank have not been published yet, so keep some Gold aside before you visit a trainer at levels 10, 20, and 35. Also, every starting zone now has a junior trainer for Herbalism, Mining, and Skinning, such as Nancy Songflower in Northshire. These trainers teach only the Apprentice rank, and the junior Mining trainers do not teach smelting.

WoW Forever Gathering Profession Manuals

WoW Forever gathering profession manuals let you pick up Herbalism, Mining, or Skinning in your first levels without a trip to a trainer. One quest in every starting zone offers a choice of Wild Harvest, Mining for Dummies, or Pelt Collecting for Beginners. Each manual teaches its profession if you know fewer than two professions and adds 2 skill points, up to 15. Here are the quests that give the manuals:

WoW Forever New Recipes

WoW Forever Profession Changes

WoW Forever new recipes number over 600 according to Blizzard, and they cover every profession and every level range. Many older recipes were also reworked, so even familiar items can have different stats or materials. Below you can see how many recipes each profession has in the release build and how many of them are new:

ProfessionTotal RecipesNew in WoW ForeverMerchant’s Favor Recipes
Leatherworking51127082
Blacksmithing43719762
Tailoring41418068
Engineering2417629
Enchanting2337040
Alchemy1786930
Cooking123426
First Aid3117NA

Herbalism, Mining, Skinning, and Fishing have few recipes of their own, since they mostly gather materials and craft camp objects. Leatherworking has the most new recipes with 270, followed by Blacksmithing with 197 and Tailoring with 180.

Crafted gear now comes in versions for different roles at the same level. For example, Blacksmiths learn Gemmed Copper Boots with Strength, Glowing Copper Boots for healers, and Strange Copper Boots for casters at 35 skill. All three are rare boots that you can wear from level 10. At 300 skill, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, and Tailoring also craft class set pieces, and only one of these Artisan’s Tier pieces can be equipped by default. They need Malleable Essence of Nature, which comes from disenchanting items from the Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps raids.

Some of these recipes are sold by vendors, and the materials for endgame crafts can be expensive. If you’d rather not farm for every pattern and reagent, you can buy WoW Forever Gold and spend more time on crafting.

WoW Forever Camping Professions

WoW Forever Profession Changes

WoW Forever camping professions let each player add one object to a Campfire, which gives a buff or a service to everyone who sits nearby. A Basic Campfire Kit holds up to three objects, and Cooking later teaches bigger campfires for five and ten objects. To get a camp buff, you need to sit or craft next to the fire for at least one minute.

WoW Forever Camp Buffs

WoW Forever camp buffs come from the first object of each profession, which you learn from a trainer at 20 skill. These buffs copy class buffs, so a camp buff and the matching class buff cannot be active on you at the same time. The table below lists every first-tier camp object and its effect at level 60:

ProfessionCamp ObjectEffect at Level 60Does Not Stack With
AlchemyMana Well29 Mana per 5 secBlessing of Wisdom
BlacksmithingSharpening Wheel+34 StrengthStrength of Earth Totem

The values grow with your level, so the same Sharpening Wheel gives less Strength at level 20 than at level 60. Camp buffs are very helpful for groups without the class that provides the matching buff, while the Camp Tent and the Reagent Bot are useful in any group.

WoW Forever Camp Blueprints

WoW Forever camp blueprints teach the second and third object of every profession, at 140 and 300 skill. Each new object keeps the effect of the previous one and adds a service, such as a crafting station that some recipes require or a node that spawns ore or herbs. Here are the blueprints and where they drop:

WoW Forever Profession Legacy Perks

WoW Forever profession Legacy perks are bought with Legacy points, and professions are one of the ways to earn those points. You get one point the first time any character on your account reaches 150, 225, or 300 in Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, or Tailoring. That gives up to 18 points from the six crafting professions, while gathering and secondary professions do not award points. The Professions tree of the Legacy system then offers the following perks:

PerkRanksEffect at Max Rank
Working Overtime5+20% chance to gain a skill point (4% per rank)
Bountiful Harvest5Scarce materials 100% more likely from Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning
Performance Bonus315% chance to get double Merchant’s Favor from a supply crate
Bartering2-10% Gold price at all vendors
Master Chef550% chance to create an extra Cooking item
Luremaster250% chance to catch an extra fish while using a lure
Dedicated Study1Raises your lowest profession by 1 every 23 hours; at 300 in all five, gives 2-4 Elemental Essences

Working Overtime is available from the start of the tree, while Performance Bonus, Master Chef, and Luremaster need 5 points spent in it first. Also, Performance Bonus requires a rank of Bountiful Harvest. Dedicated Study is the last perk of the tree, and it requires 10 spent points and a rank of Bartering.

See all Legacy trees and challenges in our WoW Forever Legacy System Guide.

WoW Forever Merchant’s Favor

WoW Forever Merchant’s Favor is a new currency for profession recipes, and you earn it from two new trade factions. Alliance players work with the Azeroth Commerce Authority in Redridge Mountains, while the Horde has Durotar Supply and Logistics in The Barrens. Both factions open at level 10 with the Shipping Label quest.

You collect Merchant’s Favor and reputation by filling Waylaid Supplies crates with profession materials and turning them in at the trade camp. A crate gives from 5 to 30 Merchant’s Favor for Apprentice to Expert crates, depending on its rank and quality. The camp vendors then sell 317 recipes in total, and several new patterns, such as the necklace enchants and the larger reagent bags, are only available there. At 300 skill, each profession can also buy a Certification for 1,000 Merchant’s Favor, which unlocks an account-wide title.

Filling crates for every vendor recipe takes a lot of gathering. Need a faster start? Our WoW Forever Merchant’s Favor service farms the currency for you, so you can buy the recipes you want sooner.

Every crate, reputation level, and reward is covered in our WoW Forever Azeroth Commerce Authority Reputation guide.

WoW Forever Craftsman’s Writs

WoW Forever Profession Changes

WoW Forever Craftsman’s Writs are rare world drops that start a profession quest, in which you craft a specific item and deliver it to an NPC. You can complete each writ quest once per day, and the writs that drop match the level of your zone. Since writs are tradable, you can also sell one on the Auction House or buy a writ for your own profession.

Craftsman’s Writs exist for Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Engineering, Leatherworking, and Tailoring. For example, Craftsman’s Writ: Elixir of Defense is an Alchemy writ that requires crafting elixirs, and Craftsman’s Writ: Green Iron Boots is a Blacksmithing writ. A Journeyman writ gives up to 125 reputation with the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics, along with a Coin Pouch. The rewards for Expert and Artisan writs have not been published yet.

WoW Forever Crafting Profession Changes

WoW Forever crafting profession changes give all six crafting professions new recipes for leveling, new camp objects, and new endgame items. The sections below cover them in this order:

  1. Alchemy
  2. Blacksmithing
  3. Enchanting
  4. Engineering
  5. Leatherworking
  6. Tailoring

WoW Forever Alchemy Changes

WoW Forever Alchemy changes start with healing, since the Healing Potion line from Minor to Major is now a First Aid recipe. Also, Alchemists get the Discolored Healing Potion line and three new combat potion lines. Mender’s Potion adds healing power, Spellblasting Potion adds spell damage, and Frenzy Potion adds Attack Power. Alchemy also makes dyes such as Cerulean Dye, which Tailors and Enchanters need for their new recipes.

At the top end, Transmute: Legionite creates the bars for new endgame weapons, and some recipes can only be made next to a Fermenter or an Alchemy Laboratory. You can find all recipes and the leveling route in our WoW Forever Alchemy Guide.

WoW Forever Blacksmithing Changes

WoW Forever Blacksmithing changes turn the profession into a source of armor for every level, with matching sets for tanks, healers, and damage dealers. Five new chain belts appear at 45 skill, and the Azure and Cloudy Skyforged chain sets, such as Azure Skyforged Chainmail, follow from 50 skill. At 300 skill, Blacksmiths craft class set pieces for Warriors and Paladins, as well as new weapons from Legionite and Heavy Thorium Bar.

Leveling Blacksmithing from scratch requires a lot of ore and bars. To skip that grind, you can order our WoW Forever Blacksmithing service and get the profession to the skill you choose.

WoW Forever Enchanting Changes

WoW Forever Enchanting changes add gear that Enchanters craft for themselves and for other classes. The profession now makes caster staves such as Glimmering Staff, wands starting with Novice’s Practice Wand, which every Enchanter learns automatically, and relics, librams, and totems for Druids, Paladins, and Shamans. Enchanters also turn dust into Mote of Magic with Dust to Motes. They learn new necklace enchants like Enchant Necklace – Spell Power at 210 skill for Merchant’s Favor.

WoW Forever Engineering Changes

WoW Forever Engineering changes make some explosives available to everyone. The new SAF-T and EZ-Thro bombs, such as SAF-T Dynamite and EZ-Thro Dark Bomb, have no Engineering requirement, so Engineers can sell them to other players. However, Classic Engineering-only items like Goblin Sapper Charge still need the profession, which keeps them exclusive to Engineers. Also, the Engineering camp objects give no buff, since the Reagent Bot sells reagents and the Repair Bot repairs gear.

Gadgets, bombs, and teleport items for every level are listed in our WoW Forever Engineering Guide.

WoW Forever Leatherworking Changes

WoW Forever Leatherworking changes include six role sets, with belts such as Brawler’s Leather Belt at 60 skill and hoods at 100 skill, plus the Camp Tent for rested experience. Armor kits are now permanent and add Stamina, from +1 on Light Armor Kit to +5 on Rugged Armor Kit. In addition, Mystic Rugged Armor Kit adds Spell Power and Forceful Rugged Armor Kit adds Attack Power. Leatherworkers can also sew Light Leather Reagent Bag, and they craft class set pieces for Druids, Rogues, Hunters, and Shamans at 300 skill.

The full 1-300 route is in our WoW Forever Leatherworking Guide. Want the class set recipes without the long route? We can raise WoW Forever Leatherworking to the skill you need, with all materials included.

WoW Forever Tailoring Changes

WoW Forever Tailoring changes focus on bags and caster gear. Tailors now make reagent bags, which go into a separate slot and hold only crafting materials, from the 6-slot Linen Reagent Bag to the 14-slot Runecloth Reagent Bag. The Azure and Cloudy Stormsewn sets, like Azure Stormsewn Vest, are low-level cloth pieces with small Intellect or Spirit bonuses. At 300 skill, Tailors craft class set pieces for Mages, Priests, and Warlocks.

WoW Forever Gathering Profession Changes

WoW Forever Profession Changes

WoW Forever gathering profession changes add Scarce materials to Herbalism, Mining, and Skinning, together with camp objects that grow resources. Scarce materials are bonus reagents that sometimes appear while you gather, such as Frilled Lichen from herbs or Pristine Leather from beasts. New crafting recipes need them, and the Bountiful Harvest perk makes them appear more often.

WoW Forever Herbalism Changes

WoW Forever Herbalism changes let herbalists grow plants at camp. The Greenhouse lets you plant herb seeds at camp, and the Seed Hybridizer improves them at 300 skill. New endgame herbs like Death Lotus also appear for the new flasks. More details are in our WoW Forever Herbalism Guide.

WoW Forever Mining Changes

WoW Forever Mining changes bring two new bars to the profession. Azerothium Bar is smelted from Scarce ore, and Heavy Thorium Bar needs Heavy Thorium Ore from Mount Hyjal and a Molten Foundry. Ore now stacks to 20, and the Rock Garden spawns a common mining node at your camp over time.

Heavy Thorium Bar is smelted only at 300 skill, which takes a long time to reach on a fresh character. Our WoW Forever Mining service can level the profession to 300 for you.

WoW Forever Skinning Changes

WoW Forever Skinning changes add one camp object line, new materials, and endgame leather. Skinners get the Camp Chair with its 2% critical strike buff, Scarce hides and scales, and the new Fel Leather for endgame Leatherworking. The source of Fel Leather has not been published yet, and class set pieces need a lot of it.

WoW Forever Secondary Profession Changes

WoW Forever Profession Changes

WoW Forever secondary profession changes make Cooking, First Aid, and Fishing worth leveling on every character. Cooking adds 5% experience from kills, First Aid makes Healing Potions, and Fishing has the Fish Bowl camp object. They also don’t take a primary profession slot, so any class can learn all of them.

WoW Forever Cooking Changes

WoW Forever Cooking changes add experience to food. Most Well Fed dishes now say “experience gained from kills is increased by 5%” in addition to their stat buff; for example, Herb Baked Egg, and the bonus stays the same at every level. Cooking also teaches the Basic Campfire Kit, so a cook is the player who starts a camp.

Leveling Cooking takes time because recipes come from many different vendors. In case you want to cook food with the 5% experience bonus, our WoW Forever Cooking service will raise the profession for you.

WoW Forever First Aid Changes

WoW Forever First Aid changes move Healing Potions into the profession, from Minor Healing Potion at 55 skill to Major Healing Potion at 275 skill. These potions use spices and a herb, so every class can make its own healing potions without Alchemy. First Aid also gets new anti-venoms and potions against poison, disease, and bleed effects, as well as the First Aid Kit for the camp.

By the way, our WoW Forever First Aid service can level the profession for you, so you’ll have your own potions for dungeons sooner.

WoW Forever Fishing Changes

WoW Forever Fishing changes include the Fish Bowl, a camp object that gives +8% to all stats like Blessing of Kings. The weekly Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza in Stranglethorn Vale runs from 2:00 to 4:00 PM server time, and the Master Angler quest now rewards the first 50 players, while only the winner received a reward in Classic. Each of them gets an Arcanite Fishing Pole and an Extravagant Extravaganza Coin.

You can exchange the coin for one of five rewards:

WoW Forever Profession Racials

WoW Forever profession racials no longer add 15 skill points, which is how they worked in Classic. Tauren Cultivation now grows a copy of a nearby herb that anyone can pick without Herbalism, once per herb and every 15 minutes. Gnomes still have Engineering Specialization, and it now lowers the chance of engineering devices failing by 20%.
