How Phantom Jobs Work in Final Fantasy 14
In fact, Final Fantasy XIV Phantom jobs are based on professions from previous Final Fantasy games. Some of these jobs (such as Bard or Samurai) exist in FFXIV as full-fledged combat classes, while others (such as Chemist or Geomancer) exist only as Phantom jobs. Here’s how Phantom jobs work in FFXIV:
- Selection and activation. You can select a Phantom job from the Occult Crescent menu in Final Fantasy XIV. You can also assign up to five phantom skills to a separate panel and cycle through them.
- Progression. Each FFXIV Phantom job has its own level, which you can increase by killing enemies and completing quests in Occult Crescent. Freelancer grows from the number of jobs that you level up.
- Limitations. Phantom skills in Final Fantasy 14 do not crit, and their damage is limited to 700 by item level. Phantom skills do not work outside of Occult Crescent.
- Phantom Mastery. Upon reaching the maximum level, a Phantom job grants a permanent bonus (Phantom Mastery) that stacks across all professions and increases damage/healing by 2% per level.
The system does not replace your Main Job in Final Fantasy 14 and does not work outside the Occult Crescent. The choice of a Phantom job depends on your goal: survivability, damage, control, mobility.
