Final Fantasy 14 How to Unlock Flying in A Realm Reborn Areas

Final Fantasy 14 How to Unlock Flying

To unlock flying in the FF14 Realm Reborn areas, you first need to complete the level 50 main scenario quest called The Ultimate Weapon. Once you finish this quest, flying will automatically be unlocked in the following zones:

  • La Noscea;
  • Thanalan;
  • the Black Shroud;
  • Coerthas Central Highlands;
  • Mor Dhona.

Final Fantasy 14 How to Unlock Flying in Heavensward Areas

Final Fantasy 14 How to Unlock Flying

To unlock flying in the FF14 Heavensward zones, you’ll need to complete the level 50 main scenario quest Divine Intervention. After that, you’ll receive the Aether Compass, a handy tool that helps you locate nearby Aether Currents required for flight. You’ll also unlock blue side quests that grant Aether Currents you can’t obtain by exploration alone.

Final Fantasy 14 How to Unlock Flying in Later Areas

After completing Heavensward, you’ll continue using the Aether Compass in later expansions like Dawntrail to locate Aether Currents. Blue side quests will also be available to unlock specific Aether Currents that can’t be found through exploration alone.

Final Fantasy 14 How to Get an Aether Compass

The Aether Compass was introduced in the FFXIV Endwalker expansion and becomes available after completing the main scenario quest “Heavensward: Divine Intervention”. It works similarly to the Prospect and Triangulate abilities used by Botanists and Miners. The compass tells you how far the nearest Aether Current is in your current zone.

Here’s how to use the FFXIV Aether Compass:

  1. Open the Duty menu (the exclamation mark icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen).
  2. Select the “Collection” tab.
  3. If you’ve unlocked the Aether Compass, it will appear in the window.
  4. You can use it directly from this menu, but most players prefer dragging it to their hotbar for quick access.

✏️ Tip: Aether Currents are usually easy to spot. Once you find one, simply attune to it like you would with an aetheryte.

Final Fantasy 14 The Aether Current Log

Another essential tool for unlocking flying in later FFXIV expansions is the Aether Current Tracker. You can access this journal from the Travel menu (small icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen). Once opened, it provides key information:

  • The total number of Aether Currents in each zone;
  • How many Aether Currents you have already collected;
  • Which Aether Current can be unlocked through blue quests.

Currents found through exploration are marked with a green icon, while those unlocked via quests appear with a yellow one.
