How to Unlock Duality Dungeon

Duality Dungeon was part of Witch Queen DLC. If you have Witch Queen Deluxe Edition bought on your account, you have access to Duality Dungeon from the Moon destination tab. If not, you might buy The Witch Queen Dungeon Key bundle from Bungie’s in-game store. For normal difficulty, there are no power level requirements. For master difficulty, your character’s power level should be at least 1830.

Upon completing these requirements, you should take the quest A Single Thread from Hawthorne near the Bazaar on the Tower.

How to Prepare for Duality Dungeon

The encounters in this dungeon are quite a difficult challenge. They include both long-range enemies in platforming sections and close-up skirmishes near bosses. It’s important to bring Weapons that are suitable for both situations. Weapons with AOE, like Witherhoard or Osteo Striga, are very useful, as are ranged boss damage Weapons, such as Tapian-4fr.

The Solar Warlock has been proven to be the most effective character class, particularly when playing solo. This is thanks to recent updates that have made healing and Scorch abilities more effective. Additionally, the Empowering Rift and Well of Radiance provide their usual buffs and damage enemies while these abilities are active, which greatly reduces the cooldown time for grenades. This is especially crucial in the Duality Dungeon, as it continuously throws aggressive Cabal enemies at you throughout the encounters.

The Strand is currently in a strong state and can be a solid choice, particularly if your build allows you to create Threadlings that can hunt down and eliminate enemies. There are also other viable options available, as long as you are proficient in using them. Take care of your survivability and damage resistance. And we strongly suggest having at least one Arc resistant trait equipped. During the first boss encounter, some of the Cabal mobs utilize Arc damage, which can become overwhelming.

Playing as part of a Fireteam makes Duality considerably easier, as some objectives require obtaining multiple items before progressing to a boss’ damage phase.

Duality Solo Dungeon Run

To complete this dungeon solo in normal difficulty, you should prepare a decent build for your character. We recommend using Solar Titan build or Warlock to make your life easier in your run. Use heavy Weapons to deal as much damage as you can. Don’t forget to take Tractor Cannon, The Lament, Crown Splitter, or The Fourth Horseman.

You can also take help from our team to complete Duality Dungeon.

Duality Dungeon Master Difficulty

To complete this dungeon on Master difficulty, your light level should be at least 1840, and your build should be well-optimized. You cannot switch Weapons, Armor, Fragments, Aspects, and other stuff in your build. Choose wisely. Also, you’ll face barriers and unstoppable champions. Don’t forget to use anti-champion mods in seasonal artifacts and Weapons associated with these mods.

If you encounter difficulties, then pay attention to our Master Duality Dungeon service.

Duality Dungeon Walkthrough

The main mechanics of the dungeon are the Bells. When you shoot it, you’ll be teleported into a nightmare realm. When you’re in the normal realm, you can make Bell shots standing any distance from the Bell. In the nightmare realm, you should stay on the plate around the Bell; either way, you will be wiped. During the encounters, you can find Bellkeepers near the Bells. They prevent interaction of the Bells, that’s why they should be eliminated on the first hand. In addition to Bell mechanics, you face Standard Essence mechanics. You might see Standard symbols on the walls or on the floor. That means that you should find Standard Bearers and kill them. After that, Standard Essence will drop, which you should deposit in the place it belongs.

Duality Dungeon starts from the room with the Calus statue in the middle. Jump down in the green light around the statue. After you teleport to the small, closed room, look around. Look through the grid; you can see a Bell on the other side. Shoot it.

In the nightmare realm, head straight to the Bell. Don’t forget, be close to the Bell when shooting it on your way back to the normal realm. Climb up using balconies until you reach the highest point of the room.

On the other side of the room, behind the grid, you’ll see the Bell. Shoot it, then in the nightmare realm, go straight ahead to another Bell. In a normal realm, stick to the left wall and find the Bell behind the grid.

In the nightmare realm, keep sticking to the left wall; you will find the hole soon. Right forward to the next Bell. In the normal realm, jump down and turn right. On the next platform behind the grid, you will find the next Bell.

In the nightmare realm, go through the hole, and you see another one on the other side. Head right to it, and then go to the next Bell on your left. In the normal realm, turn left, and you’ll see another hole. Head forward until you see the cabals. Wipe them out until the door downstairs opens. Drop down. Welcome to the first encounter of the dungeon.

Important note: if you die on your way to the first boss encounter, you’ll be resurrected at the starting point.

Nightmare of Gahlran, Sorrow Bearer

Duality Dungeon Guide

The first encounter of the dungeon starts from the Bell. In the nightmare realm, find open rooms with Standard Bearers and kill them. Then take the Standard Essence, and you’ll get the buff with its name. You can take 2 Essences at a time. Kill the Bellkeepers and go back. In the normal realm, place the Essence in the correct place. After the doors open, kill the Colossus and Bellkeepers, go in, and shoot the Bell. In the nightmare realm, kill Visions of Gahlran. After the last of the Visions are defeated, the damage phase begins.

Do as much damage as you can. You can mention that from Visions of Gahlran drops red balls. It is a 10 seconds damage buff against nightmares. Use this time wisely. Keep in mind that you have limited time in the nightmare realm. Use the last 15-20 seconds of the Nightmare timer to kill the Bellkeepers and go back to the normal realm. If you are doing a solo run, don’t deposit all the Essences together. Do one, then do the next one. You have an unlimited number of damage phases. After you kill Nightmare of Gahlran, take the loot from the chest, then drop down.

Dive Deeper

Proceed through the room until you get out through the jumping puzzle. Jump to the platforms; below, you can see the lever. It allows you to unlock extra platforms. Cross the chasm to find another switch. Go back and then climb up on the opened platforms. Look for the hole in the wall. Proceed further, clear the enemies, then head through the left door.

In the next room, climb up and go through the hall. You will see a thin platform. Crouch under it through the tunnel. When you reach the room with 4 gladiator statues and the massive Bell of Conquest in the middle, come to the Bell and take note of which statues are not faced in the middle. In the nightmare realm, you can turn statues 90 degrees. Use the button near the statue. When all statues are faced in the middle, the platform under the Bell will open. Now, you can go further for the first major encounter.

Quick Tip: You may experience challenges in familiarizing yourself with the structure of the room. However, a simple method to maintain your orientation is by keeping your position in relation to the Bell in mind upon entering the Nightmare Realm. Specifically, the upper Bell features slots for the Sun and Chalice on each side, while the lower Bell has slots for the Axe and Beast at the rear.

The Vault

Duality Dungeon Guide

Before starting, look around. You can see the Bell upstairs. On the left and on the right from the Bells and on opposite sides, there will be 4 hallways total. There, you can find locations associated with Standard Essences. At the end of each hallway in the nightmare realm, you can find Standard Bearer.

So start the encounter and notice what symbols appear on the floor. Defeat the Bellkeepers and travel to the nightmare realm. Don’t forget about 60 seconds in the nightmare realm. Proceed to correct the Standard Bearer and kill it. Take Essence and go back to the Bell.

Return to the normal realm. Defeat all enemies. Deposit two Essences, and the damage phase begins. Your goal here is to defeat a nightmare. Use Well of Radiance, Shadowshot, and any amplifiers to maximize your damage. After this is done, look for another two symbols.

Again, come to the Bell, clear the Bellkepers if they are alive, and head to correct Standard Bearer. Get the Essences and go back. Kill the nightmare and repeat this one more time. Take the loot from the chest, and you can go to the next encounter.

Important Note: if you’re doing a solo run, theoretically, you can take two Essences at a time, but keep the timer in mind. It’s pretty difficult but doable.

Proceed through the Vault into a big room. You can see a large piece of cloth in the middle. The Bell of Conquest will be on the back left of the room. Jump along the platforms until you reach the hole in the wall. Use the Bell here to get into the normal realm. Climb up and look around for another nearby Bell. Proceed forward and return back to the normal realm. When you reach the big open hall, you finally get to the last encounter of the Duality Dungeon.

Nightmare of Caiatl, Princess-Imperial

Duality Dungeon Guide

Before starting, look around. On the side walls, you can notice War Beasts and Sun marks on the left and Axes and Chalise on the right. It’s very important to know where each symbol is situated. Because the timer in the nightmare realm is limited, it’ll save you some time. Symbols appear near the 4 farther columns.

Start the encounter and clear the enemies. Eliminate the Bellkeepers, look for the symbols, and go into the nightmare realm. Defeat Psions on the balconies associated with the symbols. Take the Standard Essences, defeat Bellkeepers, and go back to the normal realm. Deposit the Essences. You need 4 Essences to activate the boss damage phase on Caiatl. You can take two Essences, but keep in mind the timer.

When you have all Essences, the chains in the middle will glow purple. Shoot them, and it’ll teleport you and Caiatl to the nightmare realm. Take note that she consistently appears under the large Bell at the far end of the room and typically moves toward the center Bell first.

Kill all Nightmare Bellkeepers from the start. Then, try to find out which Bell of Conquest she heads to. Quickly head to the Bell; you should be there before Caiatl. When she comes close to the Bell, shoot it, but remain close to the Bell beforehand. The Bell will stun her and buff your damage to Caiatl. Don’t rush to use all your amplifiers on the first Bell. After 10 seconds, stun Caiatl will rush to another Bell.

Do the same steps and continue to damage the boss. You have 3 regular Bells total on the damage phase. If Caiatl makes it to the Bell, the damage phase will end immediately. So be aware of which Bell Caiatl moves toward. You have no limits for damage phases in this boss fight. That’s why you shouldn’t rush and try to finish smoothly. Repeat the previous steps and finish the Caiatl. If you have some problems with damage, try to use a Tractor Cannon, Rocket Launcher, Grenade Launcher, and Gjallarhorn.

Duality Secret Chest Locations

Duality Dungeon has 2 secret chests. Keep in mind that you get items from the hidden chest that you already unlock in the collection of your current character.

Duality 1st Secret Chest Location

When you get to the room with four statues before the Vault, on the left wall, you can see two doors on the top. One will be closed, but the other will be slightly opened. Jump there from the Bell platform.

Duality 2nd Secret Chest Location

When you reach a big treasure room with a violet floor before the 3rd encounter, go down the floor and slide down under the big structure. Crawl under it, and you will eventually find the chest.

Destiny 2 Repressed Memories

Defeating all three bosses is not the only aim in Duality Dungeon. It is also filled with secrets, including 12 Repressed Memories about Calus. Finding all the memories gives you a better chance at getting the Exotic Sword, Heartshadow. To uncover Calus’s secrets, here’s what you need to know.

Repressed Memory 1

When you clear the first wave of enemies from the starting point of the dungeon, climb up. Stick to the left wall when you reach the last ramp, face up. You can see the row of balconies on the very top. Look for a balcony with a slightly opened door. There, you’ll find your first memory.

Repressed Memory 2

The second memory will be in the same place but in the nightmare realm. Shoot the Bell of Conquest and turn back. Stick to the right wall to see the balcony you need. Jump down and go inside through the long hallway. In the end, you’ll find your memory.

Repressed Memory 3

When you see the first bottomless pit on your way, clear Legionaries Cabals. Then, head through a little bridge to the opposite side. Go to the left column and look down into the pit. At the very bottom, near the opposite column, you’ll see a little platform. Jump down; there will be the third memory.

Repressed Memory 4

Fourth Repressed Memory will be in the room just before the first encounter. Clear Cabals and look around. You can see a square structure with curtains and a Cabal statue on it. You need to climb this structure. Behind the Cabal statue, you can see a row of six columns with a gap in the middle. Memory will be in this gap.

Repressed Memory 5

Right after the first encounter, don’t drop down. Head into the War Beast room, and you will see a memory right after the entrance.

Repressed Memory 6

When you reach the jump puzzle, you need to activate all 2 switches. Then go to the opposite wall from the entrance. Head to the left and climb up by the open coffins. Jump around the column, and you will see an opened gap. There will be your memory.

Repressed Memory 7

After the jump puzzle, proceed forward. When you get to the light hallway, jump to the catwalk and turn back. You can see a small gap ahead. Get there for another memory.

Repressed Memory 8

When you get to the 1st hidden chest location, get to the nightmare realm. Before turning statues, look around. You can see 2 columns on each side. Check each of them, and when you find a Standard Essence Placeholder, go behind the column. There will be your memory.

Repressed Memory 9

When you deal with the Vault Encounter, don’t rush to drop down. Return to the stairs and look on the War Beast platform. You can see a bunch of coffins on the wall. Climb up using these coffins. There, you can see your memory.

Repressed Memory 10

You can find repressed memory right before the 2nd chest. When you jump down on the violet floor, look under the big structure. In the middle, you find your memory.

Repressed Memory 11

When you get upstairs after the 2nd chest, in the nightmare realm, when you need to use narrow bridges to get from one Bell to another, you can see a large opened door on your right. Head there to get your memory.

Repressed Memory 12

The last Repressed Memory will be right before Caiat, above the red doorway on the last jump puzzle. To get there, use a small platform on the right from the doorway.
