Destiny 2’s new Season of the Haunted begins with a gift for all fans of the game – the return of the much-loved 2019 weapons from Forsaken’s DLC Season of Opulence with new and enhanced perks and crafting options. And we’ll tell you how to get Opulent Keys and where to find every Opulent Chest to get these coveted weapons.
And remember, Opulent weapons can be focused from the Umbral Engrams in Crown of Sorrow in the H.E.L.M., but it’s much easier and more fun to get the keys and find the chests – this article has everything you need.
How to get the Opulent Keys
As you have already realized, the task is not only to find the hidden Opulent Chest but also to get the keys to it. During various activities, such as Patrols and Containments, keys are dropped as rewards for completing quests and from chests in the Derelict Leviathan patrol zone.
Here are a few main options on where and how you can obtain Opulent Keys:
- The Leviathan Returns quest: this is a small and fairly easy introductory quest to explore and familiarize yourself with Leviathan (for those seeing it for the first time). You will receive one Opulent Key for completing this quest;
- Destination Chests: As you explore the Leviathan, you’ll find the common Cabal Chests on board, from which, with some luck, you get Opulent Keys. Also from these chests, you can get Glimmer, Crown Influence, Vestiges of Dread. To make it easier to find them, try the Wombo Detector mod on your Ghost;
- Haunted Alcove Chests: by chance you can get a key from new chests of the Season, appearing after killing strong Nightmares on Leviathan;
- Nightmare Containment reward chests: also randomly dropped from the final Tier 3 Nightmare Containment event reward chest.
So, you got the keys and they are lying unused in your inventory. It’s time to look for the Opulent Chests!
Where to find Opulent Chests
To figure out where to look for Opulent Chests, hover the cursor over the key in your inventory and read the hint description indicating where the chest might be located. Some parts of the clues point directly to the location, while others require a good knowledge of the lore and characters. But we’ll tell you about all the secret hideaways.
You can find a total of six chests – three in Pleasure Gardens and three in Royal Pools.
Pleasure Gardens, By Fallen Greatness
The first Opulent chest is under the golden head statue of Calus.
To find it walk to the right along the wall at the Castellum landing. Then find the two golden statues of War Beasts and enter the tunnel behind them to the Pleasure Gardens, in the Gardens turn immediately to the right.
Pleasure Gardens, Guarded By A Loyal Companion
The second chest is also in the Gardens of Pleasure, make your way to the Gardens in the same way as in the first case, but in the Gardens you have to go straight to the opposite wall.
The chest is located to the left of the safe room (safe room in the Leviathan raid) under the statue of the War Beast.
Pleasure Gardens, Among The Ruins
The last chest in the Gardens of Pleasure. At the Castellum landing area go straight up to the wall, then along it to the right and enter the Gardens.
From the entrance to the Gardens, turn immediately to the left and find the Opulent chest hidden behind the ruins, guarded by Nightmare Chieftain.
Royal Pools, Among Stately Columns
These chests can be found in the Royal Pools. To get to the Pools, at the Castellum landing zone go straight ahead until you see a staircase on your left, there is the entrance to the Royal Pools.
Follow the corridor until you reach the hall. In the hall turn right and go between the central and right rooms. In the first corridor on the right, you will find a chest against the wall ahead.
Royal Pools, At The Feet Of Greatness
Once you are in the hall of Pools, go straight ahead.
The chest will be just to the left outside the central chamber under the huge statue.
Royal Pools, Where Water Used To Fall
Repeat the path from the Castellum landing area to the Royal Pools. In the hall go forward and left along the columns.
Jump up to reach the second level and get to the back of the chamber. The Opulent chest will be waiting for you past the columns by the left wall.
Opulent Weapons
So, what kind of weapons can be obtained from the Opulent Chests? Here’s a list, the first four are remastered versions of the Opulent weapons, also known as Menagerie guns, and two more are new weapons of the Season of the Haunted.
- Austringer Hand Cannon
- Drang (Baroque) Sidearm
- Beloved Sniper Rifle
- CALUS Mini-Tool Submachine Gun
The weapons that can be obtained from the Opulent Chests continue the theme of craftable weapons that started last season. You can get it the same way as before, by completing five Deepsight Resonance challenges to then unlock it at the Relic at the Mars Enclave. Also, you can skip all these moments and order Austringer or Beloved, for example, on Overgear.
If you still want to get Opulent Weapons with the Umbral Engrams in the Crown of Sorrow in the H.E.L.M., you will need the Crown of Sorrow upgrade and the new kind of currency – Opulent Umbral Energy, in addition to the regular Umbral Engrams. To upgrade Crown of Sorrows you will need to rank up your seasonal activity, complete seasonal quests, and complete weekly seasonal story missions, which will give you Figments of Darkness, which can then be sold for the opportunity to unlock new Crown features such as Opulent Weapons, Haunted Weapons, and Seasonal Equipment.
The Opulent Weapon customization itself can be unlocked on the Manifest track, but you have to make four more upgrades before that, so it’s not a quick process. After that, you’ll need Opulent Umbral Energy, which you can get as well as the weapons themselves – from the Vestiges of Dread at Nightmare Containment activities, from the Sever activity, and from Opulent Chests, of course. One unfocused Opulent Weapon Engram costs 7 Opulent Umbral Energy, focusing on a particular weapon will cost 27 Opulent Umbral Energy.
