HOME WoW Forever What to Do Before WoW Forever Release

October 23rd will mark the end of the WoW Forever beta, and November 4th will be the day when the game goes live. The time after the beta ends is the ideal moment to plan what to do before WoW Forever releases, instead of just grinding through it. This guide will give you the perfect schedule for the final day of the beta, name reservation week, and first hours of play. If you’re still deciding on a class, start with our WoW Forever Race and Class Combinations guide.

What to Do Before WoW Forever Release Key Takeaways:

  • WoW Forever Beta ends on October 23, and all characters, names, and Legacy points will be deleted. Spend that final day testing class combinations, talents, and add-ons, but do not use it to level up.
  • Early Name Reservation lasts from October 27 to November 3 (PST) for those who own any Skyborne upgrade pack. Up to three characters can be created, and each one needs a first and a last name.
  • World of Warcraft: WoW Forever releases on November 4, at 3:00 p.m. PST (23:00 UTC). There’s no early access, and play requires a subscription or Game Time.
  • Select your ruleset (Normal, PvP, or RP) before the release. Characters cannot transfer between different rulesets, and names are unique across the entire region.
  • Plan your Legacy points: there are 65 account challenges to earn 1 point each, and every character can spend up to 16 points.
  • Choose two crafting professions in advance: each profession earns 1 point at skill levels 150, 225, and 300.

WoW Forever Release Timeline

What to Do Before WoW Forever Release

The WoW Forever release timeline has four dates that matter before launch: the beta end, name reservation, launch day, and the free launch week for invited friends. Though the exact Beta end day was not stated, October 23 is listed as the last full day of testing, so don’t leave anything for the evening.

The Warcraft Forever Collection will be available for sale up until January 11, 2027, thus giving us no need to rush into purchasing the game before its release unless we want to reserve our names. The 30 days of Game Time included in the Epic Pack and the Collection begin on November 4. Make sure you know how to get enough Gold to make your early game easy and enjoyable, or ask our team if you need the currency.

Planning WoW Forever Beta End

What to Do Before WoW Forever Release

Before WoW Forever beta finishes on October 23, take it as a testing ground. Even though nothing gained there will survive the wipe, everything you learn will. Here’s what should really concern you right before the WoW Forever Beta wipe:

  1. Try all classes you want to play at level 30. A level 30 character with a Talented build and 26 points demonstrates the best feel of the spec compared to any talent calculator.
  2. Evaluate the six new combo characters: Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Undead Paladin, and Troll Warlock.
  3. Spend 16 beta Legacy points in various configurations. All testers got Legacy points on October 8, and the lowest cost for a perk reset will be only 1 silver, so you can test many layouts in an hour.
  4. Explore Excavation Site: Wetlands and City of Dalaran, the new dungeons available at level 30 phase. Remember pulls, tough packs, and necessary quests.
  5. Decide on the addons you’ll really use, list their names, and take a screenshot of your keybindings and action bars. Recreating a user interface in-game on launch night can take much more time than you would expect.

📌 Beta Legacy points don’t carry over. The 16-point Legacy Challenge was a beta-only grant, and on live servers you earn points again through regular challenges.

How to Choose Your Class, Race, and Ruleset in WoW Forever

What to Do Before WoW Forever Release

It is very helpful to select your WoW Forever race, class, and ruleset before you can start playing it on release to make things easy during character creation and get directly to leveling. First, decide on your combat role and then select a race that has the appropriate abilities for that class. Lastly, choose a ruleset depending on whether you want to play PvE or PvP. It is advisable to decide on your ruleset with your friends before starting if you are playing with others.

How to Choose Your WoW Forever Class

Choosing a class before WoW Forever releases saves you a couple of hours for early leveling at launch. When choosing your class in WoW Forever, think about what you want to do at level 60, not just during leveling. Your preferred role affects which groups you can join, while your class determines how comfortably you’ll handle quests, dungeons, and solo encounters. Here are a few things to consider before making your choice:

  • Choose your character’s role. In general, Tanks and Healers are always beneficial for dungeon parties, and the choice of a DPS class gives you many opportunities to do damage. If you plan to raid, select the class capable of performing your role well at level 60.
  • Consider classes that switch roles. Druids and Paladins may Tank, Heal, or inflict damage depending on the player’s preferences. However, it requires having appropriate equipment and talents to perform each role.
  • Plan your leveling. Hunters and Warlocks are excellent solo-leveling choices because their pets will help to tank mobs while the player damages them. Mages kill groups of mobs fast but require better mana management. Warriors rely heavily on the player’s weapon, food, and bandages.
  • Think of your party. When playing with your friends, Tank and Healer classes make dungeon leveling easier. You can also combine classes to avoid competition in acquiring similar gear.

How to Choose Your WoW Forever Race

After picking your class, select a race that complements your chosen class. WoW Forever has added six new combinations of race and class, such as Orc Mage, Undead Paladin, and Dwarf Shaman. Each faction can play each of the nine classes now, but individual races still have limitations. Be sure to check the abilities of each race since several racial abilities have been updated compared to Classic WoW.

Skyborne race is a good choice for either faction, with the High Order belonging to the Alliance and Windshapers to the Horde. They begin on Zephras Isle and must be at least Skyborne Heroic or above. The Alliance Skyborne can be Mages, while Horde Skyborne can be Shamans. Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid are available to each faction. Unlike the six new combinations of classic races, Skyborne is not included with standard access.

For a closer comparison of racial abilities and class synergy, check our WoW Forever Best Races guide.

If you’re torn between two classes, consider preparing an alt rather than abandoning either choice. Additionally, our Class Quests can help you prepare any chosen class for endgame content.

How to Choose Your WoW Forever Ruleset

WoW Forever rulesets replace traditional realm selection and bring some changes to how realms work in general. Each ruleset has its own player population, and characters cannot freely move between them. Here’s how to choose the right one:

RulesetHow It PlaysBest For
NormalPvE-focused experience with optional PvPBeginners, casual players, raiders
PvPOpen-world PvP in contested areasWorld PvP fans, competitive players
RPRoleplaying-focused community with naming and conduct expectationsRoleplayers, RP guilds
HardcoreOne life with permanent consequences for death; arrives after launchExperienced players seeking a challenge

In case you join a guild, make sure to get yourself the correct ruleset and faction before World of Warcraft Forever official launch day. Players on different rulesets cannot team up to run dungeons or raids, but battlegrounds can contain players from all different rulesets. The PvP ruleset also limits character creation to only one faction.

WoW Forever Name Reservation

What to Do Before WoW Forever Release

If you have a particular and unique idea for your character’s name, you can use the WoW Forever Name Reservation, which takes place from October 27 to November 3, 2026 (PST), to reserve it. This option will be available with every purchase of a Skyborne upgrade. Who can reserve WoW Forever names early:

EditionName ReservationKey Extras
Skyborne Heroic PackYesSkyborne race, Cerulean Prideclaw mount (riding skill sold separately), 1 Invite-A-Friend code
Skyborne Epic PackYesEverything above, 30 days of Game Time from November 4, extra cosmetics, 3 Invite-A-Friend codes total
Warcraft Forever CollectionYesEverything in the Epic Pack, Warcraft III: Reforged, the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, and Housing figurines
Subscription / Game Time onlyNoFull game access from November 4, all races except Skyborne

✏️ Use your three slots carefully: the majority of the players save the slots for their main and one alt character, which will be leveled up for Legacy Points, while the third slot is used for an alt on another ruleset.

In case you have a pack, your reserved characters are also the fastest way to log in, because you simply need to click Enter at 3:00 p.m. PST, since they are all ready-made. If all the available on-release content seems to be too much alongside your main, our Starter Pack delivers a level 60 character with riding, dual spec, and bags.

How to Plan WoW Forever Legacy Points

What to Do Before WoW Forever Release

Legacy in WoW Forever is an account progression system that allows you to earn points by completing challenges. Every character in Forever spends the account total on its own perk trees, but since the amount of points is limited, you should plan how to spend it beforehand. The challenge window opens when your first character reaches level 25, and each challenge pays 1 point once per account.

Challenge CategoryPointsHow to Earn Them
Classes27Reach level 25, 45, and 60 in each of the nine classes
Tradeskills18Reach skill 150, 225, and 300 in each of the six crafting professions
PvP12PvP ranks, battleground reputations, and Field of Honor weeks
Dungeons3Complete 6, 10, and 17 listed dungeons
Raids3Clear Hyjal Summit and the Barrow Deeps, and defeat Onyxia
Adventure2Lord Valthalak questline and the Explorer achievement

✏️ Spending Legacy points on one character doesn’t take them away from another.

The launch cap is 16 spendable points per character, so you don’t need all 65 to feel the system. The cheapest route to 16 is as follows: reaching level-25 milestones on several classes plus the 150 and 225 marks in your two crafting professions. That’s why reserving an alt slot makes sense even if you’re a one-main player.

Additionally, there are two WoW Forever perks that are worth deciding on before launch. Talented starts talent points at level 5 instead of 10 (up to five ranks), and Well Rested makes rested XP accumulate 20% faster with a 20% higher cap. Points you earn also unlock cosmetics from Innkeeper Wiley in Ratchet, whether you spend them or not:

Reaching 55 points means leveling several classes and maxing professions, which adds up to weeks of play. If you’d rather spend that time on your main, our Legacy Challenges Bundle covers the grind for you.

See every perk tree and reward in our WoW Forever Legacy System guide.

Planning WoW Forever Professions

What to Do Before WoW Forever Release

Planning your WoW Forever professions before the game’s release is extremely important because crafting provides Legacy points and a new camping skill. As usual, you choose two crafting skills among six, but all characters have access to Cooking, First Aid, and Fishing professions. Neither gathering nor secondary skills provide any Legacy challenge, so a dual-gatherer gets no tradeskill points at all.

ProfessionCamp ObjectCampfire Buff
LeatherworkingCamp TentRested XP up to 5% of a level
EnchantingEnchanted Lute308 Armor, 13 all stats, 22 all resistances
EngineeringReagent BotSells reagents; the Repair Bot upgrade also repairs gear
SkinningCamp Chair2% crit chance
CookingBasic Campfire KitBuilds the campfire; Stamina food for everyone at camp

The usual advice still holds: pair a crafting profession with a gathering one while leveling to make gold, then swap later if you want two crafts for Legacy. Don’t skip Cooking either. It builds the campfire, and well-fed characters get 5% more experience from kills. If you’d like a profession maxed while you level, our WoW Forever Alchemy Boost handles it from skill 1.

Read how campfires, camp objects, and Blueprints work in our WoW Forever Camping Guide.

Planning WoW Forever Leveling Route

What to Do Before WoW Forever Release

With a well-planned WoW Forever leveling routine, you can skip the first night when starting areas are crowded, and every quest mob is queued up. WoW Forever stays at level 60 with no expansion level limit on the way, so the first 60 levels remain the core of the game. Also, there are no mounts before level 40, so XP efficiency is even more critical at the start. Some WoW Forever XP guidelines to keep in mind after the beta:

  • Dungeon quests pay about 2.2 times Classic’s experience, and dungeon mobs give roughly 20% more XP after the October 8 build. Grab every dungeon quest before you zone in.
  • Monsters below your level give less XP: a 1–5 level gap cuts it by about 3–17%. Move to the next zone instead of clearing grey mobs.
  • The Cozy Sleeping Bag gives a bonus to experience after you rest in it, stacking up to 3 times. Its quest chain is worth doing early.
  • Levels 20 to 30 take 331,800 XP, about twice as much as levels 1 to 20 combined. Expect the pace to drop around the mid-20s.

Pick your starting zone and first dungeons now, and agree on a schedule with your leveling group. If you’d rather start Forever at level 60 and go straight to dungeons and Legacy challenges, our WoW Forever Power Leveling service gets your character there while you’re offline.

Plan your zones step by step with our WoW Forever 1-60 Leveling Guide.

Set Up WoW Forever Addons and UI

Setting up WoW Forever addons before launch is quick if you start with what the default UI already covers. WoW Forever ships with features that used to need addons:

  • Quest objectives on the map for quests you’ve accepted.
  • Cooldown Manager for every class, racials, and trinkets (Options, Advanced Options; type /cdm to place it).
  • A built-in Damage Meter.
  • Edit Mode for moving and resizing default frames.
  • Combine Bags, which merges your bags into one window.

Plenty of popular addons already have Forever versions, including: Questie, RestedXP Guide, Deadly Boss Mods, BigWigs, Details! Damage Meter, Plater Nameplates, Baganator, Bagnon, Leatrix Plus, Auctionator, and GatherLite. If you are a Classic player, keep in mind that some of the addons you already have for other game versions will be shown as “Out of date” in WoW Forever and can throw errors, so stick to versions marked for “Forever”.

The best option is to download your WoW Forever addons list a day or two before launch, then check for updates again on November 4. Addon authors often push a launch-day fix, and an old version can break your UI right when you log in.

WoW Forever Launch Day Checklist

Prior to the WoW Forever launch day, use the following checklist that covers what to finish before 3:00 p.m. PST on November 4, so nothing stands between you and the character screen. Work through it in order:

  1. Ensure that your subscription or Game Time is active. Those who own the Epic Pack and Collections will receive 30 days starting from November 4th.
  2. Send your Invite-A-Friend code as soon as possible. Your friends will be able to claim it through the Battle.net app and play for free from November 4 to 11, but it will not grant them beta access.
  3. Update the Battle.net app and verify whether the WoW Forever client has been installed and updated.
  4. Prepare a name, ruleset, class, and race for all characters you will create.
  5. Install your addons and keybinds based on beta screenshots.
  6. Plan a gold strategy for your first 40 levels, as it includes the cost of training and saving up to 40 to ride.

Gold is tight in the first week of any fresh launch, and training plus riding at level 40 eats most of it. If you want a cushion from day one, you can ask our team for Manual Gold Farm once the servers are up.
