WoW Forever Library Books are lore books, scrolls, and tomes spread across Azeroth that every class can collect and bring to the librarian of their faction. In Season of Discovery, this system was a Mage-only rune quest. WoW Forever opens it to all players and adds its own set of quests and gear rewards. 4.9What Are WoW Forever Library Books
WoW Forever Library Books are collectible quest items that you loot from objects in the open world and donate to a faction librarian. These books never drop from mobs and always lie in a fixed spot, such as a bookshelf, a pile of scrolls, a table, or a tablet. A book goes into your bags once you click on it.
All Library Books are Binds when picked up and Unique. You can carry only one copy of each book and cannot trade it to another player. There is no class or level requirement to pick books up. A level 1 character can loot any book that it can reach safely. The quest for each book appears only when the book is already in your bags, so the librarian shows no book quests before your first find.
Where to Turn In Library Books in WoW Forever
Library Books in WoW Forever are turned in to one librarian per faction. Both of them stand in the mage districts of the capital cities. The table below lists both librarians with their coordinates:

Both librarians stand close to the Mage portal trainers, so Mages can teleport to the city and hand in a book right after they arrive. Books open to both factions can be turned in to either librarian. Faction-only books go to the librarian of your own faction.
WoW Forever Library Books for Mages
WoW Forever Library Books give Mages two extra rewards that other classes do not get. At level 6, Mages can learn Comprehend Scroll from their class trainer. After turning in their first Library Book, they unlock Research, which grants access to Study. Study has a 6-second cast and a 1-hour cooldown. It requires one Light Feather and a suitable library to create a Bundle of Scrolls.
Mages also receive a Comprehension Charm for every book quest they complete. This Mage-only item helps translate scrolls and spell notes and stacks up to five. During beta testing, some players reported losing access to Research after relogging, so the ability may still have issues.

WoW Forever Library Book Quests
WoW Forever Library Book quests come in two types: one small quest for each book and three reward quests for 10, 20, and 25 books. The book quests count your donations, while the reward quests let you pick one item from a short list. Both types appear at the same librarian, so one trip to the city can complete both of them.
WoW Forever Friend of the Library Quests
The WoW Forever Friend of the Library quests are the three reward quests of the system. Each of them opens after a set number of different books. Here are the reward quests with their requirements:

The counts are cumulative, so the first 10 books also count toward the ring and the bow. In total, the full set needs 25 different books. The quest for 25 books opens at level 30, although its rewards require level 40 to equip.
How to Turn In a Library Book in WoW Forever
To turn in a Library Book in WoW Forever, bring it to your librarian and accept the quest with the same name. The librarian greets you with “Have you brought something to add to our collection?”, and the quest completes right away because the book is already in your bags. Here’s what every book quest has in common:
- Required level: Every book quest has a level 1 requirement, so even a new character can hand in a book that it found in a starting zone.
- Reward: Each book quest rewards XP and money, with the amount varying between quests. Mages also receive a Comprehension Charm.
- Sharing: The quests cannot be shared with party members, as every player needs their own copy of the book.
- Timing: Books can be donated one at a time, and there is no need to carry all 10 to the city at once.
Each turned-in book is removed from your bags and counted toward the reward quests. Do not delete Library Books before turning them in. During beta testing, players reported that deleted books could not be looted again, potentially preventing them from completing the collection.

WoW Forever Library Book rewards are seven pieces of gear split across three reward quests, and you pick one item from each quest. All of them are Binds when picked up, and their item level grows from 23 for the necklaces to 45 for the last reward.

The WoW Forever Library Book rewards for 10 books are two green necklaces from the Friend of the Library quest. Here’s a comparison of both necklaces:

At 20 books, the WoW Forever Library Book rewards are two blue rings with no level requirement. The choice depends on your role, as one ring is made for spellcasters and the other for physical damage classes:
- Spellcaster ring: Philanthropist’s Ring has item level 35, +5 Intellect, and up to +10 spell damage and healing.
- Physical ring: Field Researcher’s Loop has item level 35 with +7 Agility and +7 Stamina, and any class can wear it.

Hunters benefit from the last reward because Truthseeker’s Bow fills their main weapon slot. Rogues and Warriors use it as a ranged slot item for pulling. Feral Druids and Enhancement Shamans have no strong option among the three. Enhancement Shamans can simply take the shield for an off-spec. Feral Druids cannot equip shields, so they can skip the last quest until they need it.

Each faction can collect up to 13 books from this first set, so nobody can reach 20 books without leaving the level 1-30 zones. Rumi of Gnomeregan: The Collected Works lies in two places but counts as one book. Once you loot it in Westfall, the copy in Loch Modan is no longer available to you.
The cave with Secrets of the Dreamers also leads to the Wailing Caverns entrance, so you can pick up the book on the way to the dungeon. Each faction can collect up to 13 books from the first set (12 for Horde until the Ataeric book is found), so the 20-book ring needs at least 7 books from this table. The books in Thousand Needles, Alterac Mountains, and Stranglethorn Vale are the closest to the first set, as these zones start at levels 24-30. For the last reward, at least 12 books have to come from the level 30-60 zones.

None of these books are inside a dungeon instance, so Magma or Lava?, Necromancy 101, and Scourge: Undead Menace or Misunderstood? can be looted without a group. Like Rumi, The Knight and the Lady has three spawn points in Eastern Plaguelands, and it still counts as one book.
Unconfirmed WoW Forever Library Books
Most WoW Forever Library Books now have confirmed locations from beta players. The main remaining exception is Ataeric: On Arcane Curiosities, which was previously found in The Sepulcher in Silverpine Forest during Season of Discovery. The list below shows all Unconfirmed books in WoW Forever:
- Unknown location: Ataeric: On Arcane Curiosities is listed in The Sepulcher next to Sebastian Meloche, but players who searched the tomb found nothing there.
Since 25 books are enough for every reward, you can finish the collection without any of these seven books. We will update the tables as soon as players report them.
WoW Forever Library Books Route and Tips
The fastest WoW Forever Library Books route follows your normal leveling path, because almost every book is in a zone that you visit while leveling. The order below is our own suggestion based on zone levels and travel between them.
WoW Forever Library Books Leveling Route
This WoW Forever Library Books leveling route is split by faction for the first set and shared for the later books. Here is the order we recommend:
- Alliance, levels 1-20: start with the Tower of Azora in Elwynn Forest and the Hall of Explorers in Ironforge, and then collect Rumi in the Westfall or Loch Modan inn while you quest there.
- Horde, levels 1-20: loot the primer in Brill and the tablet in Orgrimmar first, as both are in towns you visit at the start, and then cover Silverpine Forest and the three books of The Barrens.
- Both factions, levels 20-30: Darkshore, Wetlands, Duskwood, and Stonetalon Mountains, together with the Barrens books for Alliance players, complete the first 10 books, so you can claim the necklace around level 25.
- Levels 30-40: Thousand Needles, Stranglethorn Vale, Alterac Mountains, and Desolace give four books toward the ring. Dustwallow Marsh and the two Swamp of Sorrows books then bring you to the 20 books that the ring needs, as long as you have all 13 books of the first set.
- Levels 40-60: Tanaris, Felwood, Winterspring, and both Plaguelands have eight books between them. That is more than the five you need for the last reward, so pick the ones closest to your quest zones.
Some routes need a lot of travel between Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, so collecting the books can take a long time. Our WoW Forever Hourly Driving puts a pro on your character for as many hours as you need. The pro can collect books and complete quests while you’re away.
Hard-to-Reach WoW Forever Library Books
A few WoW Forever Library Books are hard to reach because of elite mobs, cages, or long walks inside caves. Here are the ones that need extra care:
- Caged book: A Luddite’s Guide to Caring for Your Demonic Pet lies in a cage that opens with the Rusted Cage Key, a Mage-only drop from Lost One Hunter and Lost One Riftseeker. Other classes can try to loot the book through the bars with careful camera work. Dying and resurrecting inside the cage also works.
- Crypt book: Crimes Against Anatomy is in the last room of a Duskwood crypt full of high-level mobs. It is better to come back with a few extra levels or a group.
- Patrol book: Scourge: Undead Menace or Misunderstood? has an elite patrol nearby. It’s easier to wait until the patrol passes the table before you loot the book.
- Cave book: Secrets of the Dreamers needs a walk through the cave system at Lushwater Oasis (46.0, 36.5) before you reach the Cavern of Mists.
The Blackrock Mountain books, Stonewrought Design and Magma or Lava?, are also tricky because the mountain has many levels. Both of them stay outside Blackrock Depths.
