Diablo 4 is finally released and if you have already defeated Lilith, then it’s time to face off against more serious opponents – other players. In this guide, we’ll talk in detail about the PvP system in Diablo 4, what rewards you can get for a successful hunt, and give some valuable tips.
In Diablo 4, PvP has been significantly expanded upon, offering players a completely fresh way to engage in combat against one another. Given the lack of PvP in Diablo 3, the success of this new iteration is crucial. And any Diablo 4 PvP Boost is available with Overgear!
Diablo 4 PvP mechanics
Unlike a true open-world PvP system, Diablo 4’s PvP will take place within a dedicated map called the Fields of Hatred. There are two zones in the Dry Steppes and Kejistan where players can fight each other. Here, players will encounter not only each other but also PvE mobs to take down.
During PvP battles, players will earn a temporary currency known as Shards of Hatred. These shards can be obtained by killing other players or mobs or completing events. However, in order to turn these shards into an actual currency that can be spent on transmog and other unique items, players need to interact with one of the shrines scattered around the map. As soon as you touch the altar, all Fields of Hatred players will know about it, and you will have a minute to survive. If you can survive this time without dying or running away from the arena, you can take all the shards you have earned and spend them as you see fit.
PvP game mode has several significant differences from PvE. They are important to understand and take into account in order to be successful in the battle with other players. For example,
- In PvP situations, the damage reduction derived from Armor is scaled down to 65% of its original value
- Every class gets an extra 92% Damage Reduction in PvP.
- It’s worth noting that the game mechanics do not prioritize fairness; thus, participating with a complete team is highly recommended. The game lacks a matchmaking system that guarantees one-on-one fights.
- The game currently lacks balanced matchmaking, resulting in situations where a level 50 player may encounter a level 70 player who can eliminate them with a single blow without any effort. Conversely, the level 50 player may feel powerless in such encounters, unable to mount a meaningful defense.
How to unlock the Fields of Hatred
To access Fields of Hatred, simply enter one of the two PvP zones. Once you do this step, you will receive a tutorial quest that outlines the rules for you. However, our guide will tell you much more.
Vessel of Hatred
To start hunting players, you need to use a special emote in the PvP zone called Mark for Blood. As you eliminate rival players, the Curse of Mephisto courses through your veins, transforming you into a Vessel of Hatred. Gradually, your presence begins to radiate menace, alerting everyone within a vast expanse (perhaps the entire zone) of your dangerous presence. Those who manage to vanquish you are rewarded with enticing bonuses. Your objective is clear: stay alive. Should you triumph without resorting to hasty retreats or employing a town portal in a desperate bid to escape, bountiful rewards of significant magnitude await you.
Buffs and Consumables
Certain buffs will appear as battles occur in the Fields of Hatred. Also, you can buy consumables for Red Dust that are only usable in the Fields of Hatred to aid you.
Name | Effect | Red Dust Cost |
Cursed Scroll of Chaos | Teleport to a random location in the region. | 1200 |
Cursed Scroll of Recklessness | Increases movement speed by 40% for 15 seconds, but deals 2% of your Maximum Life as bleed damage per second | 800 |
Cursed Scroll of Tranquility | Decreases damage taken from players by 30%, but increases damage taken from monsters by the same amount. Lasts for 20 seconds. | 800 |
Diablo 4 PvP Events
While Diablo IV does not feature true open-world PvP, in addition to regular PvP combat, Diablo 4 Fields of Hatred also features various PvE events that pop up and require players to compete. To further enhance the PvP experience, a reward system is also included in the game.
Players who perform exceptionally well during PvP battles may be marked with a timed bounty. If the bountied player manages to stay alive throughout the duration of the bounty, they will receive a substantial reward. On the other hand, if the bountied player is killed, the player who delivers the fatal blow will receive all of the bountied player’s shards.
How to avoid fights in D4 PvP
There can be several reasons why you got on the Fields of Hatred. For example, you collect the Altars of Lilith. You can also just run past because it will get you to your final destination faster. In this case, it’s best to play it safe and use Waypoint. You can also just farm Red Dust, but due to the fact that your character is not strong enough, you are afraid to enter PvP. I will give some tips to help you avoid any collision with opponents.
- Always use a horse. A player on horseback is extremely difficult to catch up, so most other players simply will not chase you.
- If you don’t intend to farm Red Dust and don’t plan to linger in the Hatred Fields at all, then avoid any events. Events attract players because they get a lot of Red Dust by participating in them.
- If your goal is to collect the Altars of Lilith (read our guide to collect all the altars without problems), do it at a lower world level. Because here you are unlikely to meet opponents who are superior in strength to you.
- If the enemy is still able to catch up with you and your death is already close, then you can use a Cursed Scroll of Chaos to move to a random place within the Fields of Hatred
Diablo 4 PvP Tips
Feel free to change your build for the battlefields. In many cases, this is more than reasonable and necessary because some classes can permanently stun and if you do not have immunity, then you have a low chance of winning. If you feel greedy for the money to change the build, then you can read our guide about farming gold in Diablo 4 or just buy gold on Overgear. Other helpful tips that you might find helpful:
- For efficient Elite farming, it is advisable to prioritize the Kehjistan Fields over the Dry Steppes due to the superior enemy density found in the former.
- Engaging in the farming process alongside a group of friends is highly recommended rather than venturing alone. The presence of companions will significantly ease the farming process, as you can collaborate to tackle both isolated and grouped players encountered along the way.
- If your objective is to engage in player versus player combat, it is wise to wait for active Rituals to maximize your efforts. Rather than aimlessly roaming the surroundings and potentially encountering players without valuable Seeds, it is more efficient to monitor the initiation of Extraction events.
Diablo 4 Where to Spend Red Dust
In D4, players who emerge victorious in PvP battles will earn valuable “Seeds of Hatred”. But even if you choose not to participate in PvP, you can still obtain Seeds of Hatred by defeating monsters or opening chests within the Fields of Hatred. To unlock their full potential, these seeds must be purified at the Altar of Extraction, yielding valuable Red Dust.
However, be warned: while you’re purifying your Seeds of Hatred, other players are free to attack you and steal your precious resource. To prevent this, it’s wise to have a group of friends on hand to defend you until the extraction process is complete. Once you’ve obtained the Red Dust, it’s yours to keep and can’t be taken away.
With Red Dust in hand, you can head to the local vendors in the Fields of Hatred to purchase unique PvP cosmetics such as trophies, outfits, mounts, weapons, and other decorative rewards. These rewards will change with each new season, providing a fresh and exciting challenge for PvP enthusiasts. So whether you prefer to battle it out with other players or simply explore the fields on your own, there’s always something new to discover in Diablo 4.
In both zones, you will come across Odds and Ends vendors. Fatin operates in Alzuuda, while Askar can be found in Denshar. These vendors offer the sought-after Killer’s set, allowing you to enhance your arsenal. Here are the prices for each piece of the set:
Name | Slot | Cost |
Killer’s Guise | Helm | 90,000 Red Dust |
Killer’s Vest | Torso | 90,000 Red Dust |
Killer’s Hands | Gloves | 75,000 Red Dust |
Killer’s Boots | Boots | 60,000 Red Dust |
Killer’s Leggings | Pants | 75,000 Red Dust |
With these prices, you can equip yourself with the formidable Killer’s set and bolster your capabilities on the battlefield.
Diablo 4 Gearing
Diablo 4’s gambling mechanic is a tried and true feature that has returned to help players upgrade their gear and earn impressive loot drops. However, the way it operates in Diablo 4 is different from previous titles. Unlike other essential vendors in the game, players don’t need to complete any quests or meet any prerequisites to start gambling in Diablo 4. All they need to do is locate the Purveyor of Curiosities vendor.
Players can first encounter the Purveyor of Curiosities around level 10 when they arrive at the central hub of the Fractured Peaks area, known as Kyovashad. The vendor is located south of the main waypoint and one street below the Blacksmith. This unique vendor offers players the opportunity to spend their Obols to gamble on random item drops.
Players can earn Obols by completing bounties and other missions, but they’re not as common as other currencies in the game. With Obols in hand, players can purchase Curiosity Boxes that have a chance to contain rare and powerful gear upgrades. And if they’re feeling especially daring, players can spend more Obols to increase their odds of obtaining better loot. It’s worth noting that while gambling in Diablo 4 can be exciting, the odds of obtaining rare items are still low. So players should think carefully before spending their hard-earned Obols.
Once you’ve collected enough Obols, it’s time to head to the Purveyor of Curiosities and start gambling. Keep in mind that the quality of items you receive is completely random and can range from Magic, Rare, to Legendary. Unfortunately, Unique items cannot be obtained through gambling. To help you plan your gambling strategy, check out the table below. It showcases the different types of items you can gamble for at the Purveyor of Curiosities, along with their corresponding cost in Obols.
Item Type | Cost in Obols |
---|---|
1-Handed Axe | 50 Obols |
1-Handed Mace | 50 Obols |
1-Handed Sword | 50 Obols |
Two-Handed Axe | 75 Obols |
Two-Handed Hammer | 75 Obols |
Two-Handed Sword | 75 Obols |
Polearm | 75 Obols |
Bow | 75 Obols |
Crossbow | 75 Obols |
Wand | 50 Obols |
Staff | 75 Obols |
Focus | 40 Obols |
Cap | 40 Obols |
Tunic | 40 Obols |
Pants | 40 Obols |
Gloves | 25 Obols |
Boots | 25 Obols |
Ring | 40 Obols |
Amulet | 60 Obols |
Whispering Key | 20 Obols |
Curious about the Whispering Key in Diablo 4? On the Fields of Hatred, you can also complete quests for Silent Chest. From Silent Chest you can get the same loot as from any other activity in the open world, however in the case of Silent Chest you can “manage” your luck and choose a Chest with a specific slot that you hope to improve.
Overall, the gambling mechanic in Diablo 4 remains a fun and exciting feature that can help players upgrade their gear and earn valuable loot drops. And with the Purveyor of Curiosities offering a variety of different items to gamble for, players will always have something to aim for.
With the introduction of the Fields of Hatred and the innovative Shards of Hatred system, Diablo 4’s hardcore PvP looks like a fresh and exciting experience.
