Diablo 4 The Butcher Boss

Diablo 4 The Butcher Guide

The Butcher in Diablo IV is one of the new Lair Bosses added in Season 13. Found deep within The Broiler, The Butcher uses aggressive melee attacks, heavy Fire damage, and dangerous arena mechanics that force players to constantly move during the fight. While entering the dungeon is free, players need 3x Pound of Flesh from Bloodied Activities to open The Butcher’s Hoard after defeating him.

During The Butcher boss fight in Diablo 4, he uses several dangerous attacks that can quickly overwhelm unprepared players. The fight becomes harder as more fire mechanics begin covering parts of the arena, reducing safe space and forcing constant repositioning. Players also need to survive special intermission phases where movement and timing become very important.

The Butcher in Diablo 4 Season 13 is one of the better Lair Bosses for farming Unique items and endgame rewards. His Hoard can drop several powerful Unique items depending on your Torment difficulty level, alongside additional loot and rewards. If you want to get that Difficulty Unlock but don’t have the time to grind, we can help you with just that!

Diablo 4 The Butcher Strategy

Strategy for Diablo 4 Butcher is not complex, but the fight can be very dangerous if you don’t know exactly what to do. Here we have prepared a full strategy for The Butcher in Diablo 4 that will help you deal with him without too much stress.

Phase 1

In Phase 1, Diablo 4 The Butcher is a fast melee boss that constantly chases you with very little pause. He only focuses on the player and tries to stay in close range at all times. Most of his damage comes from quick melee hits and gap-closing attacks, so standing still or staying too close is very dangerous. The main goal is to keep moving, control distance, and avoid getting locked in his attack range.

Main attacks in Phase 1:

  • Double Swing – very fast close-range attacks that deal heavy damage, hard to avoid if you are right next to him;
  • Headbutt – slow and clearly shown attack that stuns on hit, can be dodged with timing;
  • Sickle Grab – long-range hook that pulls you to him and briefly stuns you, can be avoided with a dodge;
  • Charge – fast dash that knocks you back and interrupts movement;
  • Mighty Roar – large area effect that slows you and limits movement options;
  • Bloody Frenzy – makes him attack faster and heal a bit every time he hits you.

The safest way to beat Phase 1 of The Butcher in Diablo IV is to keep some distance whenever possible. Do not let him stay on top of you for long, because his Double Swing can quickly chain into more damage. Try to react to his slower moves like Headbutt and Sickle Grab, since missing them gives you a short moment where you can deal damage safely.

It also helps to use movement skills or defensive abilities when he starts closing in. If you stay too close for too long, his attack speed and pressure increase a lot, especially when Bloody Frenzy is active. On higher World Tiers, The Butcher also gains a shield that can come back after being broken, which makes the fight longer and more punishing.

Intermission

At certain health points, The Butcher becomes immune and moves to the center of the arena. During this time, he changes the fight by slowing the area around him and limiting safe movement space. The arena becomes harder to move through, and you need to focus more on survival than damage.

This phase is about patience and positioning. You should avoid rushing in and instead move through safe gaps when they appear. Staying calm is important because panic movement often leads to taking damage. Once the intermission ends, he returns to his normal attack pattern, but the pressure stays high for the rest of the fight. If you don’t have time to learn all of the patterns, however, we can get as many Butcher Kills as you need for your character.
