TBC Anniversary Serpentshrine Cavern Tier Sets
In TBC Anniversary Serpentshrine Cavern, players can collect Tier 5 tokens along with normal raid loot. This raid is one half of the Tier 5 system, working together with Tempest Keep to complete full sets.
Serpentshrine Cavern provides three Tier 5 armor slots:
| Boss | Slot |
|---|---|
| Leotheras the Blind | Gloves |
| Fathom-Lord Karathress | Legs |
| Lady Vashj | Helm |
Tier 5 tokens are split into class groups:
- Vanquished Defender: Warrior, Priest, Druid;
- Vanquished Hero: Hunter, Mage, Warlock;
- Vanquished Champion: Paladin, Rogue, Shaman.
✏️ Since Serpentshrine Cavern only covers Helm, Gloves, and Legs, players must also clear Tempest Keep: The Eye to finish the full Tier 5 armor set in TBC Anniversary.
Completing full Tier 5 takes time, since it requires progress in both raids, but it is one of the strongest gearing paths in Phase 2. Alternatively, if you don’t have time to collect Tier 5 Set yourself, we can do it for you instead!
TBC Anniversary Serpentshrine Cavern Bosses
Serpentshrine Cavern in The Burning Crusade Anniversary has six bosses that players fight through in order:
- Hydross the Unstable;
- The Lurker Below;
- Leotheras the Blind;
- Fathom-Lord Karathress;
- Morogrim Tidewalker;
- Lady Vashj.
The raid is set inside Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh and takes place in an underwater-style environment. Players move through different parts of the cavern as they clear each encounter, ending with Lady Vashj at the deepest section of the instance.
Hydross the Unstable
Hydross the Unstable is the first boss in The Burning Crusade Anniversary Serpentshrine Cavern raid. The fight switches between Frost and Nature forms, and the raid must manage elemental transitions while controlling adds. Before the pull, assign one Tank with Frost Resistance and one Tank with Nature Resistance.
Here is a quick TBC Anniversary Hydross the Unstable strategy breakdown:
- Assign two Tanks before the pull: one with Frost Resistance and one with Nature Resistance. Both will tank Hydross and the adds during transitions.
- Move to the Hydross platform and start the pull from the right side near the Tainted Water Elementals.
- Nature Tank picks up the spawning Tainted Water Elementals and helps kill them quickly.
- Frost Tank pulls Hydross into position and takes control of the boss.
- Raid avoids pulling Purified Water Elementals on the left side and spreads out after the pull is stable.
- Raid spreads out to avoid Water Tomb, which can hit nearby players.
- Watch Mark of Hydross stacks as Frost damage taken increases over time.
- When stacks get high, stop damage and prepare for an elemental transition.
- Move Hydross across the purification line to trigger the form swap.
- When Hydross changes form, four Water Elementals spawn. Tanks must pick them up immediately.
- Focus and kill the Elementals first before returning damage to Hydross.
- Watch Mark of Corruption stacks as Nature damage taken increases over time.
- At high stacks, repeat the transition process by moving Hydross back across the line.
- Tanks continue swapping roles after each transition, repeating the same pattern.
The Lurker Below
TBC Anniversary Serpentshrine Cavern The Lurker Below is built around controlling space and movement. Assign ranged players to small platforms for add control, while everyone else spreads on the main platform around the boss.
Here is an easy version of The Lurker Below strategy in Serpentshrine Cavern:
- Clear all small platforms before starting the fight to remove Piranhas.
- Tank should hold the boss at the edge of the main platform.
- Ranged players should stay on small platforms and control adds.
- During Spout, move into the water to avoid the beam.
- When the boss submerges, switch focus to adds spawning on platforms.
- Off-Tanks should pick up large adds on the main platform.
- Kill dangerous adds first, then clean up smaller ones on side platforms.
Leotheras the Blind
Leotheras the Blind, the TBC Anniversary Serpentshrine Cavern boss, is a two-phase boss that alternates between Human form and Demon form. The boss splits into two forms when it has less than 25% health.
Here is an easy version of Leotheras the Blind strategy in Serpentshrine Cavern:
- Clear all trash in the room before starting to create enough space for movement.
- Assign a Warlock tank in Fire Resistance gear to handle Demon form using Searing Pain.
- When the boss is in Human form, spread out and move away when Whirlwind starts.
- After Whirlwind ends, threat resets and tanks must rebuild aggro quickly.
- Use Hunter Misdirection after each reset.
- If a player gets Inner Demon, stop everything and kill it immediately.
- Do not ignore Inner Demon or the player will become mind controlled.
- At 15% health, the boss splits into Human and Demon forms.
- Focus the Human form while the Warlock tank holds the Demon form.
Fathom-Lord Karathress
TBC Anniversary Serpentshrine Cavern Fathom-Lord Karathress is a council fight with three adds and the boss.
Here is an easy Fathom-Lord Karathress strategy in Serpentshrine Cavern:
- Assign tanks to each Fathom-Guard before the pull.
- Send a couple of players to Fathom-Guard Caribdis to interrupt Healing Waves.
- Kill Fathom-Guard Tidalvess first while the main tank builds threat on Karathress.
- Destroy every Spitfire Totem as soon as it appears.
- Focus Fathom-Guard Sharkiss.
- Avoid killing the pet near the raid.
- Move to Fathom-Guard Caribdis when the other two guards are down.
- Spread out during this phase to avoid multiple players being stunned at once.
- After all guards are dead, switch full focus to the main boss.
Morogrim Tidewalker
TBC Anniversary Serpentshrine Cavern Morogrim Tidewalker is a multi-phase fight where players need to control waves of adds while keeping the boss properly positioned.
Here is an easy version of Morogrim Tidewalker strategy in Serpentshrine Cavern:
- Position Murloc tanks near the entry areas.
- CC Murlocs.
- Tank Morogrim near a pillar and face him away from the raid.
- Raid should stay behind the boss to avoid damage.
- Heal players with Watery Grave.
- At 25% health, Water Globules will spawn and chase random players.
- Move Morogrim to a corner and use cooldowns to finish the fight.
Lady Vashj
TBC Anniversary Serpentshrine Cavern Lady Vashj is the final encounter of the raid. The most important mechanic in this fight is disabling Shield Generators with Tainted Cores.
Here is a quick Lady Vashj strategy in Serpentshrine Cavern:
- Spread out before the pull to prepare for Static Charge and safe positioning.
- Players with Static Charge must move away from the group immediately.
- At 70% HP Lady Vashj becomes shielded and summons waves of adds.
- Ranged players should target Coilfang Striders and CC them.
- Assigned players should collect Tainted Cores from Tainted Elementals.
- Carry Tainted Cores to Shield Generators to disable all four shields.
- Once all generators are down, the shield drops and Phase 3 begins.
- In Phase 3, kill remaining adds first, then focus Lady Vashj.
- Use Bloodlust and all cooldowns to finish the fight before poison fills the room.
This is one of the longest and hardest raid fights in TBC Anniversary so far, so having BiS Gear can be the difference between a clean kill and a wipe.
