Gold is an incredibly valuable resource in Classic WoW. Whether you want 100 Gold by level 40 to afford your regular mount or 1,000 gold by level 60 to afford your epic mount, or maybe you need gold for your rating consumables or, especially on Hardcore, everything for survival.
We are talking about Potions, Explosives, Elixirs, Flasks, Limited invulnerability Potions, your survival is literally linked to which consumables you have ready at your hand in dangerous scenarios. Spending an extra 50 gold on consumables can literally be the difference between life and death, and on hardcore servers, you only have one life, so all of this is even more valuable.
How To Make Gold in WoW Hardcore
- Farming is the main way to get gold in the game. Basically, all you need to do is to know the right locations with mobs and the right mobs from which you will get the necessary loot. In the future, this loot is transformed with the help of professions or sold directly at the Auction;
- Reselling is the second biggest option in the game. If you are ready to monitor the market, constantly stand at the stocks in order to manage to snatch the item at a lower price and sell at an increased price (since the stock has no commission as such, the method is quite effective), then this method is for you. All that is required is monitoring the auction and understanding which items sell better or worse during which periods.
Best Hardcore Gold Farming Classes
The best farming class is the Mage. The Mage is able to produce food and drink for himself, which saves a lot of resources. In addition, Mage is best able to kill large concentrations of mobs due to his strong AoE skills. And is also able to use Blink to move efficiently without a mount. But if you’d rather play a different class, you’ll need the Classic Era Hardcore Mount Unlock.
Best Hardcore Gold Farming Dungeons
Let’s imagine a situation in which you are already tired of continuous farming and grinding of the same locations in search of the same resources for further resale at auction or just vendor. In this case, dungeons will help you out. Of course, this is not the most profitable way, however, the most interesting and will perfectly brighten your routine. And our Classic Hardcore Dungeons Boost can help you complete any dungeon you want. So, the best dungeons will be:
- Maraudon – has plenty of rewards (Blackstone Ring, Inventor’s Focal Sword, Gizlock’s Hypertech Buckler, Mark of the Chosen) which are valued in the Auction house;
- Scholomance – there you should aim for Alanna’s Embrace, Stoneform Shoulders and Dark Advisor’s Pendant;
- Blackrock Depths – Savage Gladiator Chain will be overvalued in the market, don’t miss it;
- Stratholme – there are lots of unique valuable rewards (for example, Mask of the Unforgiven, Crown of Tyranny, Skul’s Ghastly Touch, Archivist Cape);
- Lower Blackrock Spire – there you’ll farm items for your own leveling or to resell. Aim for Mark of the Dragon Lord and Fist of Omokk.
Best Gold Farming Spots
The best way to earn gold on low levels is skinning, tailoring and enchanting (also because they allow you to level-up faster). All of these spots are very profitable as you will earn lots of gold per hour while effectively level up your character outside doing quests.
Early Game (Level 4-8)
- Level 4+: The cave under the Goldshire in the Elwynn forest. As a Human you can go to this cave where you can farm many different materials including different ores;
- Level 4+: The farm above the Death Knell in Tirisfal Glades. If you play Undead then you could always go to this farm where you can also farm linen cloth;
- Level 7+: Bael’Dun Digsite under the Thunder Bluff. As a level seven Tauren you could always swap to this location where you can continue to farm levels but also cloth at the same time, including many different chests spread through the location. And if you wish to increase the gold even further, then you could always level up your mining at the same time;
- Level 7+: The cave on the left of Ironforge. As a Dwarf or Gnome you could swap to this location at level seven to continue your cloth farm;
- Level 7+: The location above the Hero’s Virgil in the Elwynn Forest. As a Human you have this amazing location with Outrunners that also have a high chance of dropping linen cloth.
With skinning there’s another decent option and it is to go a bit more south down. Here you can find these prowlers but also different bears to drop meat that you can use for cooking or sell on the auction house and you can of course also skin these;
- Level 8+: The left side of Durotar (right side of the Southfury River). As the Troll or Orc you can also farm cloth there. You can stop on this location near the water and all the way down here you’ll be able to kill many different beasts that you can skin. Another farm you can do for two races is farming meat. This meat is collected when you kill different boars.
The reason why this material is important is because you use it when you need to level up your cooking, and people who would like to speed level cooking will just purchase this on your auction house. So make sure to always keep all the meat that you’ll find.
Early game (Level 10)
- Level 10+: Right side of The Barrens (left side of the Southfury River). The moment targets from the previous location get a bit too low level you just swap to the other side of the river. And then the creatures will all of a sudden be level 12;
- Level 10+: Thelsamar in Loch Modan. When you reach level 10 as a Gnome or Draw then you could always swap to Loch Modan. In this zone there’s many different quests where you need to slay different beasts so you can do quests, gain experience and gold and even level up skinning and grind meat at the same time;
- Level 10+: Farm to the left of Ambermill and mountains to the left of The Decrepit Ferry in Silverpine Forest. As an Undead you have an option for farming two different things: cloth and leather at the same time. Walkins there have a chance to drop a cloth, raw copper and you can even skin them so it is an amazing location for farming profession materials;
- Level 10+: Right side of Westfall. As a Human or a character above level 10, swapping to this zone is quite amazing. As there are also many different quests where you need to kill different beasts so you can farm skinning materials.
You can farm meat to maximize your experience and if you all of the sudden also kill some of the birds then make sure to always keep the light feathers. These are needed by Priests and Mages for their slow fall ability. This material will be so cheap in the beginning of a server but at some point more people will need this at max level and then they don’t want to go back to this area or any other low level area to farm them.
Early Game (Level 11-20)
- Level 11+: Darkshore. As a Night Elf or any Alliance character above level 11, at this area you can find Moonkins. They have a chance to drop light feathers or small eggs, which is a material for leveling up cooking. You can also get raw copper and you even have the possibility of also skinning them. These different ways to make gold with these creatures make this location an absolute masterpiece for farming gold on low levels;
- Level 14+: Middle of Westfall. As you’re leveling in Westfall, you can also move a bit more south to increase the level difficulty of these creatures. At around level 14 you could just move to the middle of the map and continue leveling up skinning and also grinding materials.
Why we recommend you to kill these creatures at a higher level is because they now also have a chance of dropping additional materials. So there’s a higher chance that you might get two pieces of meat instead of one;
- Level 14+: Northwatch Hold in The Barrens. It’s a good place for Horde players looking for cloth. In addition to cloth, the mobs in this fortress have a decent chance of dropping green items, raw gold, or raw copper. If you decide to go to Northwatch Hold, be sure to pick up one of the quests in Ratchet.
- Level 20+: The cave under Angerfang Encampment in Wetlands. In Wetlands there’s a cave with many different spiders. These drop items that you need for different professions and on top of this it’s also an amazing area to level up mining at the same time.
Mid game (Level 23-30)
- Level 23+: Stonetalon Mountains. At around level 23, you can relocate to Stonetalon Mountains. The only reason you want to do this is Fire Elementals. By slaying them, you can get your hands on Elemental Fire. You can sell the latter reagent for raw gold or use in your crafting recipes.
Despite the fact that it is a really expensive, in most cases, you want to keep it to use for creating Fire Protection Potion. This consumable is used throughout all stages of the games, especially when high-level players are going into some raids. But to get Elemental Fire it might take you hours as the chance to obtain it is extremely low;
- Level 26+: Thousand Needles. At level 26 you could always go to the Thousand Needles where you have the possibility of farming Elemental Water. Just remember to always pay attention to your breath. Another elemental that you can farm in Thousand Needles is Elemental Earth and you can start doing this at round level 27 on an early fresh server. This farm is definitely better compared to the elemental water;
- Level 30+: Alterac Mountains. If you just hit level 30, a lot of classes get great abilities at this mark. Shamans get Wind fury, Weapon Rogues get Deadly Poison, Mages just get a new rank of Fireball and Fire Blast and Feral Druids get Shred.
This is also a level range where there’s a gap in questing and you can either run a few dungeons. Or if you’re committed to leveling in the open world, we’ve got the perfect spot for you. We’re talking about the Snapjaw Turtles in Alterac Mountains (and Hillsbrad Foothills). There you can’t risk over pulling (or pulling additional mobs unless you tab target on a Hunter). But it’s really difficult to fight more than one mob at a time here. So take advantage of this especially at this level range and try to grind one or two levels out for both XP and just overall gold.
Another reason this spot is really good is that it’s one of the most profitable fishing areas for this level range. Just the gold that you’re going to get alone from some of the crates that you would fish up in this spot is extremely valuable. Also you get a lot of additional gold from skinning these turtles as well.
Mid game (Level 35-46)
- Level 35+: Badlands. Great option to farm raw gold would be to go to Badlands and in the middle of this zone you can find many different animals for raw gold or raw silver and if you have leveled up skinning then you can probably increase the gold that you make every single level with 50 percent.
Without skinning you could just go to Dustwallow Marsh instead. This will allow you to get raw silver from the gray items and you can also sell the white items as these are needed for proficients;
- Level 38+: Top-left and bottom of Badlands. Starting from the Level 38 and continuing all the way up to around Level 46 these places in Badlands are great choices. And this allows you to stay there for eight levels.
However, if you got tired of farming these elementals then you could always go to the shore of Tanaris where you can find snappers. They have a chance to drop the Big-mouth clam and in these clams you have a chance of getting the Golden Pearl – a material that is going to be needed at max level for various different things. So if you find these and they aren’t in the market yet, then make sure to keep them because at some point they will definitely sell for a lot of gold;
- Level 46+: Felwood. When you reach level 46 and if you would like to farm gold without using the Auction House then you go there. To learn more about Auction House you can read our BMAH guide.
In Felwood you kill different bears and wolves as these have a high chance to drop different gray items. You can just vendor them and if you have skinning you will optimize the gold that you make. As you move more north in this zone the level of these creatures will also increase so you can easily farm all the way up to level 54.
Also look for Felcloth, material used by Tailors for crafting Rare and Epic items, such as Robe of the Void. It can be dropped from Jadefire Betrayer mob. On top of that, Felcloth can be transformed into Mooncloth and used for even higher-level recipes.
End game (Level 52-60)
- Level 52+: Azshara shores. There are more locations to check out for Big-mouth clams. You will also find various different chests. Pay attention to those too. You won’t have too much competition when farming at these locations because in many gold guides these spots are not mentioned;
- Level 54+: Un’Goro Crater. If the Elemental Fire is the material you prefer to find the most for gold, well, then you can continue to do this in Un’Goro Crater. In the middle you’ll find this location with Living Blaze. The only downside is that this is usually also fairly popular and there are different quests in the same area;
- Level 57+: Top-left of Silithus. If you’re not already tired of Elemental Earth farming then you can continue to do this in Silithus at the Northwest part.
This location is great for leveling and making gold at max level too. Especially if you also make sure to trade either herbs or veins as there are so many different span locations for these up here. On top of this, mobs also have a chance to drop the Essence of Earth and other materials that will be quite expensive on the Auction House.
Best Professions for Farming Gold in Hardcore
The best choice of professions is Alchemy and Herbalism. They are really useful and in high demand as potions and elixirs are always needed, as well as materials needed for the recipes. On the other hand, you can try Mining and Skinning, as they help you get resources that are always valuable (leather, ores and so on). In addition, you will be able to level up your character much faster. And the fastest and easiest way to level up professions to the maximum level with all required resources is to buy our Classic Era Hardcore Professions Kits Boost.
Gold Farming Tips For Classic Hardcore
- Actually as an Alliance there are two things to maximize gold potential. The first thing is in Westfall: if you find the Dust Devils then you should always kill these. There’s a chance you will get Magic Dust. This is an item you can use on any target to CC them for 30 seconds. This is quite useful when you level up your character and even at level 60 people need to CC in dungeons. So, on a fresh server make sure to keep these to sell in the Auction House or maybe even use them when you need to do a difficult quest.
In Duskwood there’s a quest from Viktori Prism’Antras where you need to hand in a Bronze Tube. This is a material you can purchase in the Ironforge but also craft as an engineer. There’s a limited amount of these and the recharge time is usually quite long. So on the fresh server you just should buy them and try to resell these on the Auction House or to a nearby player. The reason why this material is so important is because it unlocks a long quest chain that grants a lot of experience and gold;
- Here’s a quick gold tip for any of you with first aid. When you get to bandages or higher then you’ll make a profit every time you turn your club into bandages. For example a stack of Silk Cloth worth 30 silver. But if you convert this into bandages then you can sell it for 40 silver, so profit of ten silver for every stack;
- If you decided to level up tailoring and enchanting at the same time then you can use the cloth to convert it into bolts. And then craft green items that you can disenchant. And the disenchanting materials you can use to craft a wand. And this wand will definitely allow you to level up even faster. And you can also sell this on the Auction House;
- Although gold is important, prioritize your character’s survival. Remember that you are playing WoW Hardcore, so do not engage in high-risk activities if they could threaten your character’s life. A dead character won’t be able to spend the gold they have earned.
Recommended Add-Ons
- Bagnon is an inventory overhaul that makes sifting through your items so much easier. Instead of having multiple bags to manage, Bagnon condenses everything into one big bag and can automatically sort and group items by type;
- Auctionator Classic makes the process easier by suggesting listing prices and automating the posting of items for other people to buy. If you frequently find yourself buying tradeskill materials or other items, it’ll simplify that, too;
- AtlasLoot Classic helps you understand what loot is on locations, bosses, etc. Incredibly useful mod if you are going to grind locations in the hope for conditional gold pearls.
We hope our guide will help you with farming gold in WoW Hardcore. If the information was useful to you, don’t be stingy with positive feedback.
