The Legendary Cloak is one of the main progression quests in Mists of Pandaria Classic, offering a powerful back item with unique effects. This guide covers how to start the questline, the steps involved, and the rewards you can earn along the way.
4.9MoP Classic Legendary Cloak Overview
The Legendary Cloak questline in Mists of Pandaria Classic is released across multiple phases, with each chapter offering important rewards that build toward the final cloak. The journey begins with Wrathion in the Tavern in the Mists and progresses through five chapters.
- Chapter I: Trial of the Black Prince (Phase 1): Completing this chapter rewards a Sha-Touched gem, which can be socketed only into Sha-Touched weapons from Terrace of Endless Spring and Heart of Fear (or from Celestial Dungeons two weeks after their release);
- Chapter II: Wrathion’s War (Phase 2): The reward here is the Eye of the Black Prince, which adds a prismatic socket to a Sha-Touched weapon or an Armament of the Thunder King. These weapons drop in Throne of Thunder or from Celestial Dungeons two weeks after the raid’s release;
- Chapter III: Two Princes (Phase 3): This stage grants access to a Legendary meta gem usable in helms with a base item level of 502 or higher;
- Chapter IV: Celestial Blessings (Phase 4): Players choose from six item level 600 epic cloaks;
- Chapter V: Judgment of the Black Prince (Phase 5): The final step upgrades your epic cloak into a Legendary cloak with a unique effect.

After earning your Legendary Cloak, you unlock access to Ordos, the world boss on the Timeless Isle. This unlock is account-wide, meaning once you’ve completed the questline on one character, all of your characters will be able to enter Ordos’ sanctuary.

MoP Classic Legendary Cloak Walkthrough
The Legendary Cloak questline in Mists of Pandaria Classic is a long, step-by-step journey that takes you through raids, scenarios, and faction grinds across the expansion. This walkthrough will guide you through every stage of Wrathion’s questline, from the early collection quests to the final challenges, so you know exactly what to do and when. We have separated this guide by different phases during which quests will become available.
Keep in mind that in order to access the legendary cloak storyline your character must be level 90. If you want to get your character to the endgame, but don’t have the time to grind, our MoP Leveling is exactly what you’re looking for!
Chapter 1
The first chapter of the Legendary Cloak questline begins with Wrathion at the Tavern in the Mists on the Veiled Stair. This chapter introduces you to the Black Prince and rewards you with a powerful Sha-Touched gem for your weapon.
Here is the full list of quests that you will need to complete during Chapter I: Trial of the Black Prince:
- Stranger in a Strange Land;
- A Legend in the Making;
- Trial of the Black Prince;
- The Strength of One’s Foes;
- Fear Itself;
- Breath of the Black Prince.
Stranger in a Strange Land
Your journey starts with Stranger in a Strange Land. Various NPCs across Pandaria can begin the quest, but the easiest to find are:
- Alliance: Brewmaster Tsu – Shrine of Seven Stars /way #1530 87.4 68.0
- Horde: Kurong Caskhead – Shrine of Two Moons /way #1530 62.2 13.2
From there, you’ll be sent to Wrathion himself:
- Wrathion – The Veiled Stair /way #433 54.6 72.6
A Legend in the Making
Once you meet Wrathion, simply listen to his story to complete this step.
Trial of the Black Prince
Earn Honored reputation with The Black Prince by killing level 90 mogu and mantid in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Townlong Steppes, and the Dread Wastes. Rogues who completed the Fangs of the Father questline can skip this step.
📌 Items like the Battle Standard of Coordination will boost rep gains, so use them if you can.
The Strength of One’s Foes
Collect 10 Sigils of Power and 10 Sigils of Wisdom from raid bosses in Mogu’shan Vaults, Heart of Fear, and Terrace of Endless Spring.
📌 In MoP Classic, since Raid Finder is not available, these sigils also have a chance to drop from the end bosses of Celestial Dungeons.

Fear Itself
Defeat the Sha of Fear in the Terrace of Endless Spring to obtain the Chimera of Fear.
📌 Alternatively, you can reject Wrathion’s plan and instead defeat the Sha of Doubt to obtain the Chimera of Doubt.
Breath of the Black Prince
Travel to the top of the stone steps at Mason’s Folly and meet Wrathion there to claim your first major reward. Upon completion, you can choose one of three Sha-Touched gems:
- Crystallized Dread: +500 Agility;
- Crystallized Terror: +500 Strength;
- Crystallized Horror: +500 Intellect.
These gems can only be socketed into Sha-Touched weapons from Terrace of Endless Spring and Heart of Fear (or from Celestial Dungeons two weeks after raid release).
If you want more gems, you can buy extras for 10,000 gold each from the Blacktalon Quartermaster at /way #433 54.4 72.8.
Chapter 2
Phase 2 quests will be different depending on which faction your character belongs to. Here we have prepared a Legendary Cloak walkthrough for both Alliance and Horde.
Alliance
The second chapter of the Legendary Cloak questline takes you into the Krasarang Wilds, where the Alliance and Horde battle for control of Pandaria’s southern shore. Wrathion continues to test your resolve while offering rewards that strengthen your Sha-Touched or Thunder King weapons.

Incoming…
Once your naval fleet lands on the southern coast, Wrathion will reach out to you. This step is completed after finishing the three lead-in quests for your faction.
- Meet the Scout – If you don’t already have this quest, pick it up from Lyalia in Vale of Eternal Blossoms (/way #390 84.0 58.4). She’ll send you to Scout Lynna at Krasarang Cove (/way #418 85.2 29.0).
- A King Among Men – Join King Varian Wrynn to find Marshal Troteman (/way #418 79.6 25.0) and Hilda Hornswaggle (/way #418 80.4 17.6) and kill 25 Horde soldiers.
- Lion’s Landing – Use the Flare Launcher in Krasarang Cove to signal the Alliance fleet and complete the assault.
Once these are done, return to Wrathion in the Veiled Stair for Incoming…
The Measure of a Leader
Speak with Wrathion again at the Tavern in the Mists. This sets you up for two quests that can be worked on at the same time.
A Test of Valor
Earn the A Test of Valor achievement by collecting 3000 Valor Points. This is a time-gated step, as you’ll only be able to gain so many Valor each week.
The Prince’s Pursuit
Earn Revered reputation with The Black Prince by killing Horde forces along the southern coast of Krasarang Wilds.
📌 As in Chapter I, using items like the Battle Standard of Coordination will increase your rep gains.
Once you’ve finished both quests above, Wrathion sends you on two more tasks.
A Change of Command
Defeat Warlord Bloodhilt at Domination Point in Krasarang Wilds (/way #418 12.2 54.6). This is a group quest, so bring friends.
The Lion Roars
Win battlegrounds at both the Temple of Kotmogu and Silvershard Mines.
Call of the Packmaster
Return to Wrathion to complete this chapter.
Rewards – Eye of the Black Prince
📌 You’ll receive the Eye of the Black Prince, which lets you add a prismatic socket to a Sha-Touched weapon or an Armament of the Thunder King.
- Sha-Touched weapons: Drop from Terrace of Endless Spring and Heart of Fear (or from Celestial Dungeons starting 2 weeks after their release).
- Armament of the Thunder King: Drops in Throne of Thunder (or from Celestial Dungeons starting 2 weeks after ToT releases).
Horde
For Horde players, Chapter 2 of the Legendary Cloak questline unfolds in the southern coast of Krasarang Wilds, where Garrosh leads the assault against the Alliance. Wrathion continues to observe your strength and determination while rewarding you with a powerful weapon upgrade.

After your fleet makes landfall, Wrathion will contact you. This step completes once you finish the three setup quests, ending with Domination Point.
- Meet the Scout – If you don’t automatically have this quest, pick it up from Sunwalker Dezco in Vale of Eternal Blossoms (/way #390 62.8 28.0). He will send you to Scout Rokla at the Horde Landing Site in Krasarang Wilds.
- The Might of the Warchief – Join Garrosh Hellscream as he seeks Blood Guard Gro’tash (/way #418 10.6 53.2) and Grizzle Gearslip (/way #418 15.6 57.8) and kill 25 Alliance soldiers.
- Domination Point – Light the Signal Fire on the beach to summon the Horde fleet.
Return to Wrathion in the Veiled Stair for Incoming…
The Measure of a Leader
Speak with Wrathion at the Tavern in the Mists. This unlocks two quests that can be worked on at the same time.
The Prince’s Pursuit
Earn Revered reputation with The Black Prince by slaying Alliance forces along the southern coast of Krasarang Wilds.
📌 Use items like the Battle Standard of Coordination to increase reputation gains.
A Test of Valor
Earn the A Test of Valor achievement by collecting 3000 Valor Points. This step takes multiple weeks, as Valor is capped weekly.

Once both quests are complete, Wrathion gives you two new challenges.
A Change of Command
Defeat High Marshal Twinbraid at Lion’s Landing in Krasarang Wilds (/way #418 86.6 25.4). This is a group quest and will require assistance.
Glory to the Horde
Win battlegrounds at the Temple of Kotmogu and the Silvershard Mines.
The Soul of the Horde
Return to Wrathion in the Tavern in the Mists to complete this chapter. You’ll receive the Eye of the Black Prince, which adds a prismatic socket to either a Sha-Touched weapon or an Armament of the Thunder King.
- Sha-Touched weapons: Drop from Terrace of Endless Spring (or from Celestial Dungeons starting 2 weeks after ToES releases).
- Armament of the Thunder King: Drop from Throne of Thunder (or from Celestial Dungeons starting 2 weeks after ToT releases).
4.9Chapter 3
This chapter takes you deep into the Isle of Thunder, where Wrathion tests your strength against mogu, Zandalari, and the Thunder King himself. Before you can begin, you must unlock the Isle of Thunder via the Thunder Calls questline.

Thunder Calls

- Horde: Thunder Calls – Report to Vereesa Windrunner at the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes.
Once unlocked, return to Wrathion and pick up Meet Me Upstairs at the Tavern in the Mists.
I Need a Champion
Earn Exalted reputation with The Black Prince by defeating mogu, Zandalari, and saurok enemies across the Isle of Thunder.
📌 Use items like the Battle Standard of Coordination to increase rep gains.
Secrets of the First Empire
Collect the following:
- 20 Secrets of the Empire – Dropped by bosses in the Throne of Thunder.
- 40 Trillium Bars – Created via Transmute: Trillium Bar or Smelt Trillium.
The Thunder Forge
Progress the Isle of Thunder storyline until you unlock the Thunder Forge. Meet Wrathion outside and complete his trial.
Spirit of the Storm Lord
Continue Isle of Thunder progression until you unlock the final courtyard. There, obtain a Tempered Lightning Lance by thrusting it into Storm Lord Nalak and surviving long enough to siphon his power.
The Crown of Heaven – Meta Gem Reward
Meet Wrathion at Mason’s Folly in the Veiled Stair to receive one of the following powerful Legendary Meta Gems (requires helm with ilvl 502+):
- Indomitable Primal Diamond: – +324 Stamina; chance to reduce damage taken by 20%;
- Courageous Primal Diamond – +324 Intellect; chance to make spells cost no mana for 4 sec;
- Capacitive Primal Diamond – +324 Crit; chance on hit to gain Capacitance;
- Sinister Primal Diamond – +324 Crit; chance on spell damage to gain 30% spell haste.
You can buy additional meta gems for 5x Primal Diamonds from the Blacktalon Quartermaster (/way #433 54.4 72.8).
Final Quests of Chapter 3
To finish this chapter, Wrathion tasks you with two final raid objectives:
- Echoes of the Titans – Collect 12 Titan Runestones from the last six bosses in the Throne of Thunder (Halls of Flesh-Shaping & Pinnacle of Storms).
- Heart of the Thunder King – Defeat Lei Shen, the Thunder King in the Halls of Thunder and loot the Heart of the Thunder King.

Chapter 4
With the Thunder King defeated, Wrathion turns his attention to Pandaria’s greatest guardians — the August Celestials. This chapter not only grants you a powerful ilvl 600 cloak, but also unlocks the path to its legendary upgrade.

Meet Wrathion upstairs at the Tavern in the Mists in the Veiled Stair.
Celestial Blessings
Travel to each of the four temples across Pandaria to seek the Celestials’ blessings. You must complete one challenge tailored to your role and speak with all four Celestials:
- Temple of the White Tiger (Kun-Lai) – Melee DPS;
- Temple of the Red Crane (Krasarang) – Healers;
- Temple of the Jade Serpent (Jade Forest) – Ranged DPS;
- Niuzao Temple (Townlong Steppes) – Tanks.
📌 You only need to complete the trial at the temple that matches your role, but you must visit all four temples.
Cloak of Virtue – Reward (ilvl 600 Epic Cloaks)

Collect 5,000 Timeless Coins from mobs, events, chests, quests, or gathering professions on the Timeless Isle.
The Emperor’s Way
Defeat the four August Celestial world bosses on the Timeless Isle:
A Pandaren Legend – Legendary Cloak Reward
Return to Wrathion in the Seat of Knowledge in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms to receive the Timeless Essence of the Black Dragonflight, which upgrades your epic cloak into its legendary version:
- Oxhorn Bladebreaker → Qian-Ying, Fortitude of Niuzao;
- Oxhoof Greatcloak → Qian-Le, Courage of Niuzao;
- Jadefire Drape → Xing-Ho, Breath of Yu’lon;
- Cranewing Cloak → Jina-Kang, Kindness of Chi-Ji;
- Tigerclaw Cape → Gong-Lu, Strength of Xuen;
- Tigerfang Wrap → Fen-Yu, Fury of Xuen.
Additional Timeless Essences may be purchased for 125 Lesser Charms of Good Fortune (before discounts) from the Blacktalon Quartermaster.

Judgment of the Black Prince – Final Quest
