What Is League of Legends Classic?

League of Legends Classic Overview

LoL Classic is a distinct gameplay experience centered on the early days of Riot’s MOBA game. The game revisits the older mechanics while not making gamers play using an untouched version of the client from 2013. LoL Classic reintroduces the following:

  • Pre-rework champion kits;
  • The early Summoner’s Rift map;
  • Old items and unusual builds;
  • Classic Runes and Masteries;
  • Removed Summoner Spells;
  • Influence Points, usually called IP;
  • Slower combat and stricter resource management;
  • Community voting through The Council.

Riot started with Season 3 as the primary anchor point. Champions, items, mechanics, and Summoner Spells from other early eras were then introduced into the game. Due to this, LoL Classic appears to be more of a best-of compilation rather than a historical server. The modern LoL is not affected by the Classic realm, so Elo Boost there will remain a priority for those who climb the ladder.

How to Play League of Legends Classic

To play League of Legends Classic, you should update League of Legends after Patch 26.15 becomes available. League Classic will then appear among the game’s available queues.

Also, you do not need to create a new account to play LoL Classic. Champion ownership also carries across the two experiences, provided that the champion appears in the Classic roster. Owned champions become immediately playable in League Classic. Missing champions can come from Classic Levels, the Shop, or the regular free champion rotation.

While unlocking the characters you want to be present in Classic, take this chance to level up Champion Mastery with our team.

League of Legends Classic Basics

League of Legends Classic Overview

Old items, Runes, and Masteries form a large part of the League of Legends Classic gameplay loop. These systems affect builds before the match even begins. You can unlock functional pages by playing instead of slowly purchasing weaker Rune tiers.

League of Legends Classic Items

League Classic includes almost every item from the first several years of League. For instance, Atma’s Impaler, Frozen Mallet, Deathfire Grasp, Gold-per-10 items, and Zz’Rot Portal are among the returning options.

Old builds do not always follow clean role boundaries. Fighters can mix health, critical strike chance, and resistances. Supports may fill several slots with passive gold items before finishing their main build.

League of Legends Classic Rune System

LoL Classic Runes provide direct statistics before a match. You place them into Rune Pages and prepare different setups for champions, roles, or specific matchups. Every returning Rune uses the old Tier 3 version as its baseline. Players do not need to purchase weaker tiers or slowly replace them with stronger copies.

Each account starts with three Rune Pages. Classic Levels unlock two more, while extra pages can be purchased with Influence Points earned through play. Riot also plans to adjust several rarely selected Runes. The goal is to give them actual uses without removing the odd buildcrafting that defined the old League.

League of Legends Classic Masteries

Masteries return as separate pages with assignable points. They work alongside Runes and can change damage, defense, utility, and early-game planning. All Mastery pages and points become available after reaching Classic Level 4. This keeps the opening grind short compared with the original League.

📌 A default page applies when a player forgets to select Runes or Masteries. It will not be perfect, but the account will not enter the match without basic stats.

League of Legends Classic Summoner Spells

League of Legends Classic also brings back old Summoner Spells. Riot directly confirmed the return of Fortify and described the mode as containing every early Summoner Spell. Reveal materials also showed removed options such as Rally and Revive. Their exact launch balance may change before Patch 26.15 reaches live servers.

League of Legends Classic Gameplay

League of Legends Classic Overview

League of Legends Classic gameplay follows a slower and more punishing style than modern League. Champions have clearer strengths, but their weaknesses also create larger openings for opponents.

Abilities cost more resources and deal much more damage when they connect. Dashes and projectiles travel slower, while crowd control lasts longer. One careless spell rotation can empty your mana bar before the next fight even starts.

Modern League often gives players several tools for correcting a bad engage. LoL Classic usually makes the first mistake stick. This slower pace should make positioning and cooldown tracking much more noticeable. Our Coach can help you learn how to play League of Legends in a desired role and understand what you are expected to do to avoid unnecessary mistakes.

League of Legends Classic Summoner’s Rift Map

The League of Legends Classic map recreates the early version of Summoner’s Rift:

  • Old jungle camps return, including Wraiths and extra monsters near Red and Blue Buffs.
  • Jungle monsters deal more damage and respawn faster.

📌 A casual first clear can become messy without enough Health Potions, especially on weaker early junglers.

Riot has adjusted lighting, shadows, and textures for clearer fights. The map keeps its old shape and mood, but players should still read champions during crowded team fights.

League of Legends Classic New Features

LoL Classic keeps several features that make the current League of Legends easier to play:

  • Updated matchmaking;
  • Modern server infrastructure;
  • Current performance improvements;
  • Modern ping options;
  • Spell buffering;
  • Positional preferences;
  • Optional WASD controls;
  • Regular balance updates.

These features sit beside the old combat systems. Thus, you can get Classic mechanics without bringing back every technical problem from the early client. If you want to test the new Classic features, but still want to play ranked in the current game version, complete Placement Matches with our team and enjoy every aspect of the game.

League of Legends Classic Champions

League of Legends Classic Overview

League of Legends Classic launches with 60 champions. The roster combines the original 40 characters with 20 selected champions released between 2009 and 2013. The LoL Classic champion list includes:

📌 Riot has directly confirmed the 60-champion format and plans to add more characters later.

League of Legends Classic Champion Kits

League of Legends Classic champions use their early kits rather than their current reworked versions. This change affects abilities, scaling, animations, sounds, and common item builds. Several famous League of Legends Classic builds become playable again:

  • AP Master Yi;
  • AP Sion;
  • AD Alistar;
  • Crit Gangplank;
  • Tank Evelynn;
  • Deathfire Grasp mages;
  • Atmogs fighters;
  • Gold-per-10 stacking supports.

Also, Skarner returns without his modern terrain mechanics. Fiddlesticks regains its bouncing silence, while Gangplank can once again deny minions. Sion also returns with his old point-and-click stun and unusual AP scaling. You might want to use the League of Legends Account Level Up boost to get 3 characters fully prepared and account levelled.

League of Legends Classic Game Modes

League of Legends Classic launches with one PvP queue, Co-op vs AI, and Custom Games. Riot wants the mode to support relaxed group play instead of creating another Ranked ladder immediately.

League Classic ModeAvailabilityMain Purpose
PvP DraftAvailable at launchStandard 5v5 matchmaking
Co-op vs AIAvailable at launchLearning champions and testing builds
Custom GamesAvailable at launchPrivate matches and experiments
Traditional RankedNot available at launchSummoner’s Journey fills this role

PvP Draft will serve as the main League Classic queue. Riot has not announced a Blind Pick option or several separate PvP playlists. Custom Games should become the testing ground for old interactions. This queue suits players who need to check a strange scaling ratio before risking it in Draft.

League of Legends Classic Ranked

The first question coming to players’ minds about the new-old version of the favorite game is, “Is there ranked in League of Legends Classic?” The short answer is yes, but there are a few important points to remember.

League of Legends Classic will not have a traditional Ranked queue at launch. Riot describes Classic as a place for friends rather than another demanding LP grind. You still receive a skill-based progression path through Summoner’s Journey. Unlike Ranked, this system does not split friends across separate competitive queues.

League of Legends Classic Role Selection

You can arrange League of Legends Classic positions in order of preference before entering matchmaking. The system tries to grant the first choice and avoid the final choice. It cannot guarantee one role every match. You may receive their second or third option when matchmaking needs to keep queue times reasonable.

Many players find it rational that this system replaces the old race to type “mid” first. Classic brings back many old mechanics, but Riot wisely left that particular champ-select battle behind.

League of Legends Classic ARAM Mayhem

LoL ARAM Mayhem Classic launches alongside the League Classic as a limited-time queue. It uses a Classic-inspired map, old items, and themed Augments. Only the 60 League Classic champions appear in this queue. They use their modern champion versions rather than the old Classic kits.

Keep in mind that this is a separate mode, not part of the standard League Classic queue list. It offers a quicker way to sample the roster without playing full Summoner’s Rift matches.

League of Legends Classic Progression

League of Legends Classic uses several connected progression systems. Classic Levels unlock permanent features, while Summoner’s Journey tracks longer competitive progress. Seasonal Classic Passes add another reward track. They contain free and paid rewards, but they do not replace the permanent Classic Levels system.

League of Legends Classic Levels

LoL Classic Levels form a free, one-time progression track. Players gain levels simply by completing League of Legends Classic matches. League of Legends Classic Levels unlock:

  • Runes;
  • Masteries;
  • Extra Rune Pages;
  • Summoner’s Journey;
  • Influence Points;
  • Blue Essence;
  • Access to The Council;
  • Several cosmetic rewards;
  • The Rustier Blitzcrank skin.

Riot compares Classic Levels with regular account levels. They provide permanent account progress rather than resetting with each season. The early unlocks arrive quickly. Masteries become fully available at Classic Level 4, while Summoner’s Journey begins at Classic Level 10. Even if you plan to play the current LoL version alongside the Classic, unlocking Masteries is still worth it, and our team can do it fast.

League of Legends Classic Summoner’s Journey

LoL Classic Summoner’s Journey becomes available after reaching Level 10. It starts at Salt, continues through Wood, and eventually reaches Legend. Only a single-digit percentage of players should reach Legend. The highest rank will require both skill and regular play, despite the mode’s casual queue structure.

Summoner’s Journey in League of Legends Classic lets players show progress without creating strict Ranked matchmaking barriers. A newer player can still queue with a friend who has already climbed much further.

League of Legends Classic Pass

League of Legends Classic will receive Seasonal Classic Passes. Each pass contains a free track and a paid track with progression resources and cosmetic rewards. The full launch pass, price, and reward order have not been announced yet. Riot has confirmed several reward categories and how Classic Skin Tokens work.

League of Legends Classic Cosmetics

League of Legends Classic Overview 4.9

In summary, League of Legends Classic brings back the messy side of early LoL rather than recreating one perfect Season 3 patch. Old kits, expensive spells, Rune Pages, strange items, and slower fights should make every match feel noticeably different. Modern servers and controls stop the nostalgia trip from becoming a technical headache. Meanwhile, Classic Levels and The Council give the mode somewhere to go after launch.
