HOME How to get OSRS How to Get to Nightmare Zone Osrs

Nightmare Zone is OSRS’s premier AFK combat training method — a dream-world arena where you fight bosses from completed quests in exchange for Nightmare Zone points. Those points buy Imbues, herb boxes, and experience rewards. The location is simple once you know the route, but you do need some quest completions first.

  • Located north of Yanille, outside the wall near the Nightmare Zone dream arena
  • Requires at least 5 completed quests with bosses to start a custom game
  • No skill requirements to enter, but quest completion is the gate
  • Fastest travel: Minigame teleport (free, Grouping interface) or Ring of Dueling
  • Herb box purchase (15 points each, up to 15/day) is ~260K GP/day passive profit at cap

How to Get to Nightmare Zone in OSRS

The Nightmare Zone arena is found north of Yanille, just outside the city walls. Dominic Onion stands outside the building and handles entry.

Travel options:

  1. Minigame Teleport (Grouping interface) — free, 20-minute cooldown. Teleports directly outside the NMZ building. Best for regular sessions.
  2. Ring of Dueling — teleports to Castle Wars, then run north to Yanille and continue north to NMZ. About 3 minutes total.
  3. Yanille Teleport (standard spellbook, requires 65 Magic) or Watchtower Teleport — both land in or near Yanille, short walk north.
  4. Fairy Ring CIQ — lands near Yanille; run north.

ℹ️ The 20-minute cooldown on the minigame teleport means most players set it up once per session. Alternatively, buy a stack of Ring of Dueling charges for fast repeat access.

Quest Requirements for Nightmare Zone

To enter a customised dream (the mode used for training), you need bosses from quests you’ve completed. Each boss adds to your available pool. You need at least 5 bosses to start — but more quests give better boss selection, which directly affects your XP and points per hour.

AFK Combat Training at NMZ

NMZ is the best AFK melee training method in OSRS. The standard approach:

  • Dharok’s set — damage scales with how low your HP is. Let Overloads and Absorption potions keep you in the low-HP zone for maximum hits
  • Customised rumble mode — enables continuous respawning bosses
  • Absorption potions — prevent death by absorbing incoming damage (up to 1,000 points at a time)
  • Overload potions (80 Herblore or buy from shop) — boost stats every 5 minutes, maximise damage

At full Dharok’s with good NMZ bosses, you can reach 80,000–100,000+ melee XP/hour while barely clicking. Most players check in every 20–25 minutes to sip Absorptions. If you’d rather skip the quest grind to unlock good bosses, our OSRS quest and account services can get you quest-ready fast.

OSRS Nightmare Zone FAQ

Below are the most common questions about accessing and training at Nightmare Zone in OSRS.

How Many Quests Do I Need for Nightmare Zone?

You need at least 5 completed quests with bosses to start a Customised dream. In practice, 10–15 quests gives you enough boss variety for a solid training session. The more quest bosses available, the higher your theoretical point and XP rates.

What Are NMZ Points Used For?

Points are spent at Dominic Onion’s Reward Shop. The most valuable uses: Imbuing rings (Berserker Ring i, Archer’s Ring i, etc.) at 650,000 points each, and herb boxes at 9,500 points each (up to 15/day). Herb boxes are the passive profit method — their GP value exceeds the time investment if you’re already training there.

Can You AFK at Nightmare Zone?

Yes — it’s one of the most popular AFK training methods in OSRS. With Absorption potions handling damage mitigation, you can train 20–25 minutes between interactions. Don’t go completely AFK overnight though; the game’s anti-AFK system will log you out after a period of inactivity.

What Is the Best Setup for NMZ Melee XP?

Dharok’s full set with Overload and Absorption potions in Customised Rumble mode. Keep HP as low as possible (Dharok’s special is stronger at low HP) using Rock Cake or Locator Orb to sip down to 1 HP, then use Absorptions to prevent further damage. This setup achieves 80,000–120,000 Melee XP/hour.

Are There Any Skill Requirements for NMZ?

No direct skill requirements to enter, but 80 Herblore lets you buy Overload potions from the shop (the best in-game overload equivalent). Without Overloads, you use Super Combat Potions instead, which are less effective but still solid.

Nightmare Zone sits comfortably in the background of most OSRS grind sessions — set it up, let it run, check in for Absorptions, and collect your XP. The quest prep is the one-time investment.
