Best Sunken Temple Team Composition
For a smooth and comfortable run of the Sunken Temple raid, the following team composition is recommended:
- Tanks: 2 (1 main tank, 1 off-tank that can also DPS).
- Healers: 4 (1 healer per 5 party members is a good rule of thumb for new raid content).
- DPS: 14 (a mix of melee and ranged).
Some high-performance groups might try running with this Sunken Temple team comps:
- Tanks: 1 (highly skilled players only)
- Healers: 2-3
- DPS: 17-18
This is a quite aggressive team composition for Sunken Temple and requires a lot of coordination and well-geared players.
The Best Classes for Sunken Temple
Assembling a well-balanced group with specific roles is crucial for success in SoD Phase 3 Sunken Temple. Here’s a guide on the best classes to bring for this raid:
- Tank: Warriors excel at tanking due to their powerful ability to generate real threats and absorb significant damage. A Protection Warrior with a shield is ideal for holding aggro and mitigating incoming damage, which is essential in handling the tough Sunken Temple bosses and encounters.
- DPS: Recommended classes for this role are Mage, Warrior (Fury or Arms spec), Rogue, Warlock, and Hunter. These classes offer strong DPS capabilities. Mages and Warlocks can provide valuable AoE damage, which is beneficial during large mob pulls. Rogues and Hunters excel in single-target damage, while Warriors can contribute with melee damage and utility.
- Healer: Choose among Priest (Holy or Discipline spec), Druid (Restoration spec), Paladin (Holy spec), Shaman (Restoration spec). Healing is critical in the Sunken Temple due to the intense encounters. Priests are often preferred for their potent single-target and group healing abilities. Druids bring versatility with heals over time and off-spec utility. Paladins offer strong single-target healing and buffs, while Shamans bring unique totems and healing spells.

Map
Let’s look at the Sunken Temple layout so that you can better navigate during the raid.

The Temple of Atal’Hakkar has five levels. You can easily reach each level by using the stairs right at the entrance. The design is interesting because the second and fifth floors wrap around the central structure like balconies.
These balconies hold the key to activating the Idol of Hakkar and summoning Atal’alarion. You can move between these upper levels directly using staircases, so you don’t have to go back to the entrance each time. To help visualize this, the image above marks each floor’s entrance and exit with corresponding letters.
We have also marked the Sunken Temple bosses locations on the map with green numbers:
- Festering Rotslime (go back to the entrance and go up through the new door).
- Atal’ai Defenders
- Dreamscythe and Weaver
To successfully complete the Sunken Temple in WoW SoD Classic, you need to know not only what is located where but also what needs to be done and in what order.
Activating the Statues and the Idol of Hakkar: To activate the Idol of Hakkar and complete the Secret of the Circle quest, find the statues on the second-floor balconies and activate them in the correct order, which we have marked with blue numbers (1-6).
To summon Atal’alarion, you’ll need to:
- Activate the Statues as mentioned above.
- Use the Ancient Egg or Yeh’kinya’s Scroll to awaken the Avatar of Hakkar.
- Defeat the Avatar of Hakkar. (This will also spawn Hakkari Bloodkeepers. Use the Hakkari Blood they drop to extinguish the 4 flames in the room.)
To reach Jammal’an, you’ll need to: Defeat Atal’ai Defenders, 6 troll mini-bosses (Zolo, Zul’Lor, Hukku, Gasher, Loro, Mijan), stationed on the fifth-floor balconies. This breaks the force field barring entry to the Lair of the Chosen. After this pair of bosses is killed, Dreamscythe and Weaver will appear.
Quests
As you can see, the main value of the Temple raid is its loot, which can be obtained from bosses and quests. But you can also get BiS gear for Phase 3 without any effort if you trust Overgear.
Class Specific Quests
There are also many class quests in Sunken Temple that offer valuable rewards.
Important Note: You will receive all 3 rewards for successfully completing the quest chain.
