How to Defeat Season of Discovery Onyxia
To successfully defeat Onyxia in Season of Discovery, players have to have a clear plan of action for each of the three phases of the fight and the environment of Onyxia’s Lair.
When going to Onyxia, there are Onyxian Warder patrols on the way. These mobs have a deadly ability called Fire Nova. Tanks should pull the Onyxian Warder, and melee DPS should hold back until the first Fire Nova is cast to avoid taking damage.
Phase 1
In this phase, Onyxia has three primary boss abilities, that are Tail Sweep, Wing Buffet, and Flame Breath. Do not stand behind or in front of the boss. Tanks should face Onyxia’s tail towards the entry and be as close to the back wall as possible to reduce the knockback from Wing Buffet. DPS should engage cautiously once Onyxia is in the correct position, and save most of the major cooldowns for later stages.
Phase 2
Onyxia will move to the center of the room and fly when she is at 65% health. This phase is the most dangerous, so apply damage-increasing cooldowns. During the air phase, Onyxia will use Fireball and Deep Breath. Stay close to her always to prevent Deep Breath by relocating to safer areas. Raiders should be at least 8 yards apart to reduce the impact of Fireball splash damage. It is advisable to use Greater Fire Protection Potion.
Phase 3
When Onyxia reaches 40% health, she will land in the center of the room. Move her back to the position as in phase 1, with the tank placed against the back wall. In this phase, Onyxia gains two new abilities that are Bellowing Roar, which scares players, and Onyxian Whelps which are summoned. Tanks have to use Berserker Rage or be on healers’ Tremor Totem/
During the fight, there is a need to have proper coordination and communication. Make sure that everyone knows where they should be when to use their cooldowns, and the specifics of each phase. If you follow these strategies, you are able to complete SoD Onyxia’s Lair raid. Also, our professional players are ready to get you Pre Raid Gear, which will increase your chances of success.
