WoW Classic Best DPS Class

In this table, you can see a list of the best classes and best DPS specs in WoW Classic divided into tiers. The placement of these classes reflects their DPS impact in WoW Classic Fresh content. As you can see from the table below, some classes are mentioned just like classes, and some of them also have their specialization. The reason for this is the fact that some classes are pure DPS with no Tank or Heal specs, while others can also be Healers or Tanks.

TierClasses
SFury Warrior
AMage, Rogue, Protection Warrior
BFeral Druid, Elemental Shaman, Hunter, Warlock
CEnhancement Shaman, Shadow Priest
DRetribution Paladin, Balance Druid

📌 Note: WoW Classic DPS Tier List is reviewed for Phase 5.

It’s important to note that if the class you want to play is not in the S-tier, it doesn’t mean it is unplayable. It simply requires more serious preparation and skill, which can allow you to be at the top of the damage charts.

Speaking of proper preparation, we can also recommend using the services offered by our platform, such as Pre-Raid Gear, where our pro players will prepare your gear, allowing you to be at the top of the damage charts right from the start!

S-Tier

Currently, in Phase 5 of WoW Classic Fresh, the only class in the S-tier is the melee DPS Warrior. Most likely, the core class Warrior will remain in this position throughout WoW Fresh Classic. But who knows, maybe you’ll discover a new perspective on the game and find a class that can stand on par with the Warrior.

Fury Warrior

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Good AoE damage⛔️ None, except for their constant Rage
✅ Good single-target damage
✅ Awesome cooldowns
✅ Useful without good gear

At the moment, no class in WoW Classic can compete with the Fury Warrior’s explosive and incredibly high damage with consistent damage output, especially when hitting multiple targets with their cleave damage. Even with mediocre gear, having good base damage, and Warrior can still be at the top of the damage meter.

The Warrior DPS stands head and shoulders above all other DPS classes due to their personal buff cooldowns, specifically Death Wish and Recklessness, which provide a huge buff and incredible damage boost. But Fury Warrior is a difficult class because of its complex leveling.

📌 Note: Death Wish and Recklessness also reduce your defense.

A-Tier

A-Tier classes are core DPS classes that are good at damage meter, but can’t compare to S-Tier rivals. However, they complement the Warriors well due to their unique traits.

Mage

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Best AoE damage⛔️ Mob resists
✅ Crowd control⛔️ Gear dependence
✅ Useful in a group

The Mage is a powerful class with several damage specializations: Arcane, Fire, and Frost. Each can be considered as one of the best DPS specs in WoW Classic 20th Anniversary.

The Mage is the best class for crowd control and dealing with AoE damage in raids. In WoW Classic Fresh, Mages may only face issues with resistance from certain mobs. Otherwise, it’s an excellent class for progressing through PvE content, farming, and having fun. You will be a very useful party member, with incredible utility capable of feeding your group or entire raid, helping with transportation through portals across the world of World of Warcraft.

✏️ Tip: You always want to have a Warlock a Mage in your group to travel quickly across Azeroth, especially at level 60. Even if they switch their tiers, they never lack their utility.

Rogue

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Good single-target damage⛔️ AoE damage
✅ Useful without good gear
✅ Stealth

Rogues are one of the strongest melee DPS classes in WoW Classic, aside from Warriors. They excel at dealing damage to a single target. However, when it comes to groups of mobs, Rogues cannot compete with Warriors. A Rogue can still deal a decent amount of damage even without good gear. If you enjoy stealth and striking from the shadows, then this class is for you.

Tank Warrior

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ High damage for a Tank⛔️ Lacks Mobility
✅ Easy to manage⛔️ Tank Mechanics
✅ A 2-in-1 party member

Tank Warrior can also be named a top-tier DPS due to their immense power. An additional advantage of a tank is a much higher survivability, compared to DPS specs. And it is further enhanced with the constant damage that this class can deal. Tank Warrior is a perfect choice for any party, as they are basically 2-in-1 characters: they tank, they kill.

B-Tier

In Tier B, we have classes that deal acceptable damage but rank lower due to their complexity or specificity, making them less common in WoW Classic Fresh raids compared to the S and A tier classes. Also, good classes that have fun class mechanics.

Feral Druid

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Good single-target damage⛔️ AoE damage
✅ Good Scale from the gear⛔️ Manacosts
✅ Good damage potential
✅ High mobility

Melee Druid DPS is a powerful spec in WoW Classic. Feral spec scales very well with gear, such as the invaluable buff of the Wolfshead Helm and Manual Crowd Pummeler, which are BiS (Best in Slot) items for this specialization and provide a massive damage boost. Feral Druid deals solid single-target damage but lacks good AoE damage and suffers from mana issues.

Hunter

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Good single-target damage⛔️ Gear dependence
✅ Useful auras⛔️ High manacosts

The Hunter is not the strongest DPS class, especially until they acquire the Tier 1 set and Rhok’delar, Longbow of the Ancient Keepers which provides a massive damage boost. Hunters are slightly weaker than S and A tier classes, mainly due to their relatively weak attack damage.

However, Hunters are still needed in dungeons and raids because of their useful abilities, such as Tranquilizing Shot and Trueshot Aura. Also, be careful with your pets, as they can accidentally pull aggro off your tanks. Get the Tier 1 set with the help of our professional players. Become, if not the best, then an awesome and highly valuable teammate in raids and dungeons!

Elemental Shaman

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Totems⛔️ AoE damage
⛔️ Single-target damage

This previously off-meta spec now has a better B-tier position. Elemental Shaman still has some drawbacks, but overall it performs sufficiently: relatively good damage output and unique buffs help this Shaman spec to make a comeback to raids and dungeons.

Warlock

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Good AoE damage⛔️ Big threat
Healthstones⛔️ Gear dependence
✅ Summons
✅ Good damage over time

The Warlock is almost as useful as the Mage, but they rank lower for the following reasons:

  • They have lower AoE damage, and to increase it, they need to be at a close distance to the target and use Hellfire.
  • Warlocks generate a lot of threat when dealing damage to mobs with Shadow Bolt. This skill generates a massive amount of threat, forcing Warlocks to stop dealing damage to avoid pulling aggro off their tank.

Warlocks are incredibly strong with good gear and the right consumables, and they can hold decent spots in the damage meter. However, due to the limitations mentioned above, they are ranked lower than Mages. They are also valuable in groups and raids because of their powerful tool Healthstones and Soulstones, which heal and revive their party members.

C-Tier

Classes and specializations in Tier C are playable, but due to their specific nature, they are very rarely seen in dungeons and raids.

Enhancement Shaman

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Totems⛔️ AoE damage
⛔️ Single-target damage

The damage output by Enhancement Shaman has unexpectedly increased in PvE, especially when using consumables. Though the buffs that this specialization can provide are better offered by its alternative, Resto Shaman, the DPS in the current phase isn’t impressive. Enhancement Shaman, unlike Elemental Shaman, is not so good for progressing through PvE content in WoW Classic.

Shadow Priest

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Shadow weaving⛔️ AoE damage
✅ Single-target damage⛔️ Single-target damage
⛔️ No damage-dealing skills

In WoW Classic Shadow Priests are in a very peculiar damage role — they can’t deal much AoE damage, and because of this, they are rarely taken into raids. If by some miracle a Shadow Priest is brought into a raid, it is only because of their passive ability: Shadow Weaving, which has a chance to increase Shadow damage dealt to the target.

Priests also can’t deal much single-target damage since they have only a few offensive abilities like Mind Blast and Mind Flay. Overall, Priests aren’t very strong in WoW Classic; it’s better to use a Priest as a healer.

D-Tier

WoW Classic Fresh classes placed in Tier D are extremely non-viable and unplayable non-meta specs compared to their alternative specializations.

Retribution Paladin

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Holy Damage⛔️ Only one who can do Holy damage
⛔️ Single Target Damage
⛔️ AoE Damage

As a melee range Retribution spec, getting into a raid is nearly impossible. This specialization can only bring an aura that adds extra Holy Damage, but the problem is that ONLY Retribution Paladins benefit from this additional damage. Furthermore, all other benefits of the specialization can be provided by other Paladin specializations, such as Holy Paladins. Based on years of experience playing WoW Classic, it’s safe to conclude that Retribution Paladin will remain in lower tears throughout all of Classic.

Balance Druid

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ Spell damage increase⛔️ Mana issues
⛔️ Single-target damage

The only thing Balance Druid specialization is good for party buff is increasing spell damage by 3%. Other than that, it is the worst DPS spec in WoW Classic due to mana shortages, even when using consumables. The only useful spell you have is Starfire, but its have major issues with high mana cost will force you to downrank it, which significantly affects its damage output. Overall, Resto Druids can do everything that Balance can, while also being able to heal.
