Marvel Rivals The Thing Overview

Marvel Rivals The Thing Guide

Ben Grimm, better known as The Thing, joins Marvel Rivals as the 37th hero, released during Season 1: Eternal Night Falls. With his rock-hard body and total immunity to displacement effects, he enters the battlefield as an unstoppable Vanguard.

His playstyle mixes disruption and frontline control. Charging into enemies, he can slam them into the air and scatter their formation, forcing Duelists and Strategists to retreat once the giant rock man gets close.

In Marvel Rivals, The Thing is a Vanguard champion, who is meant to take damage and guard teammates. His skill set relies on close combat, crowd control, and support for the team, and thus he is a linchpin in front-line battles. If you can’t wait to play The Thing, we can help you reach the desired Proficiency Level and receive all the related rewards.

Marvel Rivals The Thing Strengths and Weaknesses

The Thing in Marvel Rivals is a Vanguard with lots of powerful abilities, but just like any other hero, he has strengths and weaknesses:

StrengthsWeaknesses
✅ High durability allows him to withstand significant damage.⛔️ Low mobility prevents the pursuit of quick opponents.
✅ Crowd control abilities can disrupt enemy formations.⛔️ Mostly melee-based, so it is hard to fight in the range.
✅ Damage reduction enhances team survivability.⛔️ Abilities may have longer cooldowns, requiring strategic usage.

Marvel Rivals The Thing Strengths

The Thing has several powerful traits that make him one of the scariest Vanguards in close combat. His strengths shine when diving into grouped enemies and countering specific heroes.

Counters Wolverine — The best anti-Vanguard ability in Marvel Rivals is Wolverine’s Feral Leap, but Ben Grimm completely counters it. Instead of being snatched, Wolverine falls flat while Yancy Slam shuts down his escape. The Thing can’t even be ulted by Logan, making him a nightmare matchup.

Good Into Grouped Up Enemies — Charge, Haymaker, and Clobberin’ all deal heavy AoE damage. When enemies cluster together, The Thing can punish them with devastating slams that prevent escapes and chain his AoE attacks.

Crowd Control Immunity — Thanks to his Undying Will passive, The Thing is permanently immune to displacement. His Charge also makes him immune to stuns, allowing him to crash straight into enemy backlines without fear of being stopped.

Marvel Rivals The Thing Weaknesses

Despite his raw power, The Thing in Marvel Rivals has clear drawbacks. His weaknesses mostly appear when fighting mobile enemies or when forced to frontline without proper support.

No Vertical Mobility — The Thing struggles against heroes who fly or control high ground. His short-range kit keeps him effective on the ground but leaves him helpless against threats above.

Needs an Ally for Damage Reduction — Unlike most heroes, The Thing can’t trigger his damage mitigation alone. Without an ally nearby, he becomes an easy KO if isolated or blocked off by abilities like Groot Wall.

Not Enough Sustain to Frontline — With no barrier and limited healing, The Thing can’t act as a true solo tank. He helps fortify his team with Embattled Leap, but if caught alone, he ends up feeding rather than holding the line.

The Thing Tips And Tricks

The best tip for The Thing players is to time the skills accordingly. Time Yancy Street Charge and Stone Haymaker for heavy damage output and providing crowd control or zoning enemy damage dealers. And never forget about your powerful passive ability — Unyielding Will — that grants you immunity to knockbacks and helps you to stay resilient. Additionally, things you should remember:

  • Position yourself at the front of fights to absorb incoming damage and protect squishier allies;
  • Manage cooldowns so important abilities are on hand at the right moment;
  • Team with heroes that can follow up on your crowd control, like high-damage Duelists.

Marvel Rivals The Thing Best Teammates

  • Mister Fantastic: His stretchiness pairs with The Thing’s simple brawling play, making the two of them a well-rounded duo.

Marvel Rivals The Thing Counters

Although The Thing is powerful, there are heroes who can take advantage of his weaknesses. Beware of the following heroes and do not let them take control of the situation:

  • Scarlet Witch: Her crowd control and ranged damage can keep The Thing at a distance, so he cannot get close.
  • Iron Man: Iron Man’s increased mobility and ranged damage allow him to harass The Thing at a distance.
  • Magik: Her burst damage and teleportation allow her to outmaneuver The Thing, so it is hard for him to get his abilities to hit.
