Marathon Season 2 Release Date

Marathon Season 2 Overview

Marathon Season 2 started on June 2, 2026. The season launched together with Open Play Week, which runs from June 2 to June 9. During this period, players can try the full game on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Marathon Open Play Week

Open Play Week includes the new Season 2 content, so players can test Night Marsh, Sentinel, and the new gear. Progress also carries over if you buy Marathon after the free period ends. Main details for Marathon Season 2 launch:

  • Season 2 started on June 2, 2026;
  • Open Play Week runs from June 2 to June 9;
  • the full game is available during the event;
  • progress carries over after purchase;
  • Season 2 gameplay content is free for existing owners;
  • everyone starts the season on a fresh reset.

This is probably the best entry point Marathon has had so far. The reset clears old inventories, and new players do not feel as far behind as they would mid-season.

If you want to skip the slow early grind and jump into Nightfall with a stronger start, our Marathon Leveling Service can help you push through key levels, unlock faction progress, and keep all earned loot on your account. It is a good option for players who want to test Season 2 content without spending the whole launch week on basic progression.

What Is New in Marathon Season 2

Marathon Season 2 Overview

Marathon Season 2 Nightfall changes the map pool, progression, gear choices, and queue options. It also gives players a softer way to test the game through Sponsored Survival. Main new features in Marathon Season 2 include:

  • Night Marsh, a nighttime version of Dire Marsh;
  • Sentinel, a new defensive Runner Shell;
  • The Cradle, a shared seasonal stat progression system;
  • KKV-9SD SMG and D54 Battle Pistol;
  • Frost Mine, Vector Grenade, and Signal Flares;
  • Sponsored Survival experimental mode;
  • faster faction progression;
  • Duos Queue with daily map rotation;
  • Ranked return later in the season;
  • Cryo Archive return during Season 2;
  • quality-of-life updates for Vault, UI, and matchmaking.

Marathon Season 2 adds a lot at once, from Night Marsh to The Cradle and new faction progression. If you want a faster route through the early season, you can ask our Marathon Players to handle routine progression, contracts, credits, or faction levels while you focus on learning the new content.

Marathon Season 2 Night Marsh Zone

One of the major changes in Marathon Season 2 is Night Marsh. It’s a darker take on Dire Marsh, with gameplay tending to be slower and riskier. The visibility is short and steep, so there’s more to be done with light, sound and map reading than normal. This zone also applies more pressure on the UESC control. Loot, exfils, some areas require Certs, Network Tower, correct routing.

Marathon Sentinel Runner Shell

Marathon Season 2 Overview

Sentinel is the new Runner Shell in Marathon Season 2. This Shell is defense, trap, team protection oriented. It is designed for players who enjoy taking angles, doors, and handling rough exfiltrations.

Sentinel does not support “pushes for the sake of pushing. Rather, this Shell will slow down enemies and punish bad aggression. This is particularly handy on Night Marsh as a single ping or trap can win the run.

Marathon Season 2 New Weapons and Gear

New weapons, gear, and dark-zone tools are added to Marathon Season 2. The inventory now includes more “close-up” solutions, and new equipment is available for traps and visibility. In Marathon Season 2, new weapons and gear include:

  • KKV-9SD SMG;
  • D54 Battle Pistol;
  • Folding Stock mod;
  • Frost Mine;
  • Vector Grenade;
  • Signal Flares;
  • Vector rounds;
  • Darksight Scopes;
  • new weapon chips;
  • updated implants.

Marathon The Cradle System Explained

The new season stat progression system is called the Cradle in Marathon Season 2. It takes the place of a lot of the old stat grinding associated with faction trees, and adds some new ones. Players can now gain Runner stats in one system for the season.

You spend Energy on various stat categories, you gain Energy and you turn gear and items into Cradle XP. Energy can be shifted anytime you want, making building changes seem easier. Main Marathon Cradle features:

  • shared progression across all Runner Shells;
  • item conversion through the Matter Converter;
  • Cradle XP from weapons, equipment, and other items;
  • Energy points earned through Cradle levels;
  • six stat categories;
  • extra perks at certain breakpoints;
  • free stat reallocation;
  • seasonal reset at the start of each new season.

The Cradle becomes one of the main progression goals in Marathon Season 2, and it rewards steady item conversion and XP farming. If you do not want to grind the system manually, our Cradle Leveling can help you push Runner customization faster and build toward stronger seasonal stats.

Marathon Sponsored Survival Mode

Sponsored Survival is a new experimental mode in Marathon Season 2. It provides a safer option for players to play on Night Marsh. The mode also has tension but not immediately puts you into a standard PvP match.

Players can explore, loot and fight UESC enemies as a crew starting from Night Marsh. Solo Rooks then add pressure later on in the map. After 18 minutes, the final exfil follows, adding to a build-up of tension for each run.

Marathon Season 2 Progression Changes and Seasonal Reset

Marathon Season 2 starts with a seasonal reset. Players return to a cleaner state and begin rebuilding progression, loadouts, and faction ranks. That may sound rough, but it also makes the early season feel fairer.

The biggest change is that Runner stat progression now goes through The Cradle. Faction progression also moves faster, and contracts should feel less annoying than in Season 1. This should help both solo players and regular crews.

Marathon Season 2 Combat and Sandbox Changes

The combat sandbox is also modified in Marathon Season 2. The update focuses on pressure for grenades, the strength of the Signal Jammer, close-range battles, and visibility aids. Fights should be less one-sided as a result of these changes.

Grenades are still good but no longer as simple to chain. This also took some of the old safety from Signal Jammer. Meanwhile, new items such as the Vector Grenades and Signalling Flares give players a greater chance of seeing space before it’s too late.

Season 2 changes the sandbox, so some players may need time to adjust to new weapons, grenade pacing, and dark-zone tools. If you want a smoother start, our Superior Bundle can help you begin the season with credits, faction progress, and stronger early options already prepared.

What Comes Later in Marathon Season 2
