HOME How to get OSRS How to Get Infernal Cape Osrs

The Infernal Cape is OSRS’s most prestigious melee item — a cape that proves you’ve cleared the Inferno, a 69-wave combat challenge that makes the TzHaar Fight Cave look like a warm-up. It takes most players multiple attempts, serious preparation, and pattern recognition to earn. It’s also the only item in the game that upgrades into the Fire Max Cape at 99 all skills.

  • Awarded upon defeating TzKal-Zuk, the final boss of the Inferno
  • No quest requirements — requires completing the Fight Cave first for access (Fire Cape needed)
  • Recommended stats: 90+ Ranged, 90+ Defence, 74 Prayer (Rigour), 94 Magic for Ice Barrage
  • Entry fee: 30,000 Tokkul per attempt (reduced to 0 after first completion)
  • Wave 68 introduces the Jad challenge (multiple Jads) — the hardest coordination section outside Zuk

How to Get the Infernal Cape in OSRS

The Infernal Cape is obtained by completing all 69 waves of the Inferno and defeating TzKal-Zuk. The Inferno is accessed through the same entrance as the TzHaar Fight Cave — inside TzHaar City beneath Karamja Volcano — but requires a Fire Cape to enter.

Access requirements:

  • Possess a Fire Cape (earned from the Fight Cave)
  • Pay 30,000 Tokkul entry fee per attempt (waived after your first completion)
  • The Fire Cape is consumed on entry — you sacrifice it to attempt the Inferno

ℹ️ You don’t lose the Fire Cape permanently — only the instance you sacrifice. You can re-earn Fire Capes from the Fight Cave and re-enter the Inferno as many times as needed. Most players have multiple Fire Capes before seriously grinding the Inferno.

Inferno Wave Structure

The Inferno escalates enemies across 69 waves before the final Zuk encounter. Unlike the Fight Cave, multiple enemy types appear simultaneously and often attack from different angles.

Wave RangeKey EnemiesCore Challenge
1–35Nibbler, Bat, Blob, MeleeerSafe-spotting, managing spawns
36–60Ranger, Mage, Jad (single)Prayer switching, pillar use
61–67All enemy types togetherMulti-target management
Wave 68Multiple Jads simultaneouslyPrayer switches under pressure
Wave 69TzKal-ZukFull Zuk mechanics

The Inferno’s unique mechanic is its shield — a large rock shield that rotates around Zuk during the final encounter, providing a safe spot that must be used to avoid Zuk’s one-hit attacks. Healers spawn mid-fight and must be managed via Ice Barrage or Chinchompas.

Recommended Gear and Setup

Ranged is the dominant style throughout the Inferno. Magic (specifically Ice Barrage) is used for healer freezing during the Zuk fight.

  • Twisted Bow or Armadyl Crossbow with Ruby/Diamond Bolts (e)
  • Ancestral or Void Mage for Ice Barrage on healers
  • Bandos or Armadyl armour depending on your Prayer sustain needs
  • Inventory: 2–3 Saradomin Brews sets, Super Restores, Ranging Potions, Runes for Ice Barrage

The Zuk healer freeze mechanic is the most common failure point for otherwise strong players. Practice the timing — freeze each healer as it approaches Zuk, then return to managing the shield safe spot. Chinchompas are a popular alternative to Barrage for multi-healer coverage.

If you want to attempt the Inferno with an account specifically built for it, our OSRS account preparation services can get your stats and gear in order before you step inside.

OSRS Infernal Cape FAQ

Below are the most common questions about earning the Infernal Cape in OSRS.

How Hard Is the Infernal Cape Compared to the Fire Cape?

Significantly harder. The Fire Cape requires learning Jad’s two-attack pattern. The Inferno requires managing multiple enemy types simultaneously across 69 waves, surviving a multi-Jad wave, and executing precise mechanics during TzKal-Zuk. Most players complete their first Fire Cape within 2–5 attempts. The Infernal Cape average is 20–50+ attempts for non-elite players.

How Long Does a Full Inferno Attempt Take?

A complete run takes 2.5–4 hours depending on pace and wave management efficiency. Deaths don’t return you to a checkpoint — you restart from wave 1. Banking on staying alive matters more than going fast.

What Stats Are Needed for the Infernal Cape?

Practical minimums are 90 Ranged, 90 Defence, 74 Prayer (Rigour), and 94 Magic (for Ice Barrage). Below these thresholds, the margin for error is extremely thin. Most first completions happen at 95+ Ranged and with Twisted Bow — higher stats dramatically reduce the difficulty.

Is the Infernal Cape Worth the Effort?

For serious PvM accounts, yes. The Infernal Cape gives +8 to all Attack styles and +8 Strength compared to the Fire Cape’s +4 equivalents — a meaningful upgrade. More practically, it signals account progression and opens up the Fire Max Cape cosmetic at 99 all skills. Many players treat the Infernal Cape as a rite of passage rather than a pure stat upgrade.

Can You Buy an Infernal Cape in OSRS?

Infernal Cape is non-tradeable — every player must earn it personally. There are no shortcuts through the Grand Exchange. Third-party services exist but violate Jagex’s terms of service.

The Inferno doesn’t care about your gear score — it cares about your game knowledge. Players with Twisted Bow die at wave 50; players with Armadyl Crossbow and strong mechanics complete it. Preparation wins.
