Unlike some of the professions in Cataclysm, Enchanting does not have specializations. It works as a single, simple skill set. Enchanting concentrates on disenchanted unwanted equipment to collect the materials and then apply those materials to craft powerful magical enhancements to the weapons and armor.

Cataclysm Enchanting Changes

There are several significant Cata Enchanting updates. Here’s a summary:

Expert Enchanting

Requires character level 20

Important Note: You can purchase the Formula: Enchant Bracer – Lesser Strength from Kulwia (Horde) in Stonetalon Mountains or Dalria (Alliance) in Ashenvale. Please note that these recipes are limited in supply. If they’re out of stock, you’ll need to wait for them to respawn, which typically takes between 30 to 50 minutes. Alternatively, you can check the Auction House for availability.

Artisan Enchanting

Requires character level 35

Important Notes:

1. Look for the Formula: Enchant Bracer – Greater Stamina at the Auction House. It’s a random world drop, but this recipe is the best for leveling Enchanting from 245 to 265 or even 285.
2. You can buy the Formula: Lesser Mana Oil from Kania in Silithus. She is located upstairs in the Inn.
3. The recipe for Enchant Shield: Greater Stamina can be purchased from Daniel Bartlett in Undercity or Mythrin’dir in Darnassus. The recipe binds on pick-up! Don’t make the mistake of buying it with an alt and trying to mail it. It’s also limited in supply, so you might have to wait if someone else has already bought it.

Master Enchanting

Requires character level 50

Important Note: The recipe for Shield – Major Stamina can be purchased from Madame Ruby in Shattrath City. While you’re there, be sure to also pick up the Formula: Superior Wizard Oil. Both items are limited in supply, so if they are sold out, you’ll need to wait 5-10 minutes for them to restock.

There is an alternative, cost-effective method for leveling from 335 to 345, but it is exclusive to Blood Elves. Their racial passive skill, Arcane Affinity, allows them to gain ten free skill points by converting a Large Prismatic Shard into three Small Prismatic Shards and then back again.

However, only the conversion from one Large Prismatic Shard to three Small Prismatic Shards benefits from this. Therefore, you have a chance to gain skill points only half of the time, as the reverse conversion will not grant any. Additionally, since the recipe will be grey, skill-ups are not guaranteed with each craft, and the chance of gaining skill points is quite low. Expect to spend around 10-15 minutes to gain the ten free skill points.

The Formula: Large Prismatic Shard is sold by Madame Ruby in Shattrath City, Lyna in Silvermoon City, and Egomis in The Exodar, while the recipe for Small Prismatic Shard is taught by your trainer.

Darkmoon Faire Enchanting Quest

During the monthly Darkmoon Faire event, a Cataclysm Enchanting Profession Quest becomes available. To access this quest, you need a minimum Enchanting skill of 75.
