What is Bastion of Twilight?
The Bastion of Twilight is an entry-level raid instance where the players fight against the cult of Twilight’s Hammer led by Cho’gall. Cho’gall is one of the most significant bosses that the players have to defeat in order to save Azeroth. The raid has four bosses in Normal and five bosses in Heroic difficulty settings. There are two sizes of raids, 10-man and 25-man, and both Normal and Heroic modes are available to the players. Defeating bosses rewards players with tokens that can be used to purchase Tier 11 raid gear.
Where is the Bastion of Twilight Location
The Bastion of Twilight is in the southwest of Twilight Highlands. Remember that to get to the entrance, you have to fly to the top of the spire and you will need a flying mount for that.

The Bastion of Twilight Map Explained
A – Entrance
- Halfus Wyrmbreaker
- Valiona & Theralion
- Ascendant Council
- Cho’gall
- Sinestra (Heroic only)
The Bastion of Twilight raid instance has a different number of floors depending on the difficulty you choose:
- Normal Difficulty: 2 floors
- Heroic Difficulty: 3 floors
The raid is linear in both difficulties, so you need to defeat all the bosses in a row. However, there is a key difference in what happens after defeating the boss Cho’gall:
- Normal Difficulty: Cho’gall is the last boss of the instance. After you defeat him, that means the raid is over.
- Heroic Difficulty: When you kill Cho’gall, the floor beneath him falls away to reveal a hidden room where Sinestra awaits as the actual final boss of the raid.
In both cases, the only way to get out of the raid is to teleport after defeating the last boss.
The Bastion of Twilight Resets
In the same way as other raid dungeons in Cataclysm Classic, the Bastion of Twilight has a weekly lockout. This means you are only able to clear it for loot once per difficulty (Normal or Heroic) each week. Here is the Bastion of Twilight raid reset timer:

Loot in The Bastion of Twilight
The number of players in your raid doesn’t affect the gear’s item level, but 25-player raids yield more loot per boss. Moreover, the Heroic mode provides more valuable rewards than the Normal mode.
The last boss of the raid, Sinestra, is only available in the Heroic mode and has a different set of loot compared to the rest of the bosses in the raid. This means that Sinestra’s loot will be of a higher ilvl than other Heroic bosses in the Bastion of Twilight.

Bastion of Twilight All Bosses Strategies
In Bastion of Twilight Normal mode there are four bosses, and in Heroic mode there are five. The table below contains a brief overview of each boss in the raid, general information about the fight, tactics, and specific mechanics that will help you defeat all the bosses in Bastion of Twilight.
| Boss | Overview | Special Abilities | Strategy |
|---|---|---|---|
![]() Halfus Wyrmbreaker | Halfus Wyrmbreaker is the first boss in The Bastion of Twilight raid, known for enslaving Drakes to enhance his power. He is surrounded by five Drakes, with three randomly chosen each week to give him buffs, affecting the encounter’s difficulty and requiring strategic adjustments. On Heroic Difficulty, all five Drakes are active. Releasing a Drake debuffs Halfus but makes the Drake hostile, and defeating it boosts your damage against him, helping to manage his high HP and 6-minute enrage timer. | Malevolent Strikes Frenzied Assault Shadow Nova Furious Roar Scorching Breath Fireball Barrage | 1. Maintain one tank on Halfus and the second tank on the released Drakes. 2. Taunt swap Halfus at 8 stacks if Slate Dragon is active. 3. Use two Drakes right away to avoid the enrage timer. 4. Suggest to kill two Drakes to handle the tank stacks. 5. Get ready for Furious Roar when the boss is at 50% health, ready with your raid-wide stun cooldowns and heals. 6. Interrupt Shadow Nova if Storm Rider is active. 7. Counter Shadow Nova using abilities. 8. On Heroic, free all Drakes at the beginning and just nuke them down as a team. |
![]() Valiona and Theralion | Valiona & Theralion is the second encounter in The Bastion of Twilight raid. You’ll battle one sibling on the ground while the other attacks from the air, swapping roles every 2 minutes and gaining new abilities. They share a health pool, so ranged classes with DoTs that can hit both at once have an advantage. | Valiona: Blackout Devouring Flames Twilight Meteorite Deep Breath Theralion: Engulfing Magic Fabulous Flames Twilight Blast Dazzling Destruction | 1. Move out around the boss to deal with Blackout and Devouring Flames. 2. Stay out of the boss’s sight during Devouring Flames to avoid taking damage. 3. Stack up during dragon swap to ensure that you are ready to deal with Void Zones. 4. Control the effects of Engulfing Magic and Twilight Meteorite debuffs as follows. 5. Dealing with Deep Breath mechanics is possible by moving away from the area that is affected by it. 6. On Heroic, focus on Twilight Sentry and Twilight Shift DoTs, engaging in the Sentries while a DPS and a healer should clear them while not stacking too much DoT. |
![]() Ascendant Council (Elementium Monstrosity) | The Ascendant Council is the third boss encounter in The Bastion of Twilight raid, involving 5 bosses over 3 Phases. In Phases 1 and 2, you face 2 bosses at a time, transitioning to the next Phase when one reaches 25% HP. In Phase 3, they merge into the Elementium Monstrosity, combining their remaining HP. The closer all 4 bosses are to 25% before Phase transitions, the weaker the final enemy will be. | Ignacious: Flame Torrent Inferno Leap Aegis of Flame Rising Flames Burning Blood Flame Strike Feludius: Hydro Lance Water Bomb Glaciate Heart of Ice Frost Beacon Arion: Call Winds Lightning Rod Disperse Lightning Blast Thundershock Static Overload Terrastra: Gravity Well Eruption Harden Skin Quake Gravity Core Elementium Monstrosity: Gravity Core Electric Instability Lava Seed Gravity Crush | 1. For Phase 1, concentrate on Ignacious and Arion while controlling the positioning of the tank and interrupts. 2. Stack for Heart of Ice and Burning Blood, and remove when needed. 3. Go to Phase 2 with both bosses at about 25% health for better control. 4. Manage with abilities such as Lightning Blast and Eruption alongside Violent Cyclone and Gravity Well mechanics. 5. Interrupts and positioning are crucial to manage various boss abilities properly. |
![]() Cho’gall | Cho’gall is the ultimate encounter in The Bastion of Twilight raid on Normal difficulty. As the final boss, he presents one of the toughest challenges in Phase 1. This fight involves managing numerous abilities and adds, as well as handling resource management. The battle culminates in an intense DPS race against rising corruption and the relentless spawning of tentacles all around you. | Flame’s Orders Shadow’s Orders Conversion Fury of Cho’gall Summon Corrupting Adherent Fester Blood Corruption of the Old God Darkened Creations | 1. It is important to manage the Corrupted Blood levels in order to avoid getting debuffs and to maximize the DPS. 2. Stack range slightly behind melee and tank swap during Fury of Cho’gall. 3. Interrupt or CC players that are under the effect of Mind Control. 4. Handle Flame’s Orders and Shadow’s Orders mechanics, but do not trigger any extra damage. 5. Control adds by pulling and stunning them to prevent them from using their skills. 6. Manage the mechanics and slimes of Fester Blood effectively. 7. Move smoothly to Phase 2 by moving out and dealing with raid-wide damage and tentacle spawns. |
![]() Sinestra | Sinestra, the mother of Nefarian and Onyxia, is a bonus encounter in The Bastion of Twilight raid, available only after defeating all previous bosses on Heroic difficulty. Despite having fewer mechanics compared to other bosses in the raid, the main challenge lies in meeting the high DPS and healing requirements needed to survive the three Phases of this lengthy battle. | Twilight Blast Flame Breath Wrack Twilight Pulse Twilight Slicer | 1. Stay spread out at the edge of the platform to control the aggro radius and avoid the Twilight Orbs. 2. Wrack debuffs can be dispelled, and the second one will be a fake for every 10 seconds. 3. Kill the boss to 35% health as fast as possible then move to the back of the room for the shield phase. 4. DPS uses Pulsing Twilight Eggs while tanks manage Twilight Drakes. 5. Interrupt Twilight Spitecallers and pay attention to the following spells and abilities. 6. Return to Phase 1 positions after the Shield Phase and keep on with debuffs, adds, and platform mechanics. |
