The Angler outfit is OSRS’s Fishing experience bonus set — wearing the full outfit gives a 2.5% Fishing XP boost that compounds over millions of fish, saving roughly 27,000 XP on the road to level 99. The two main methods to get it are Fishing Trawler (the original source) and Tempoross (the faster modern alternative for most players).
- Full set provides 2.5% Fishing XP bonus (0.4% per piece, 0.8% for the top)
- Two acquisition methods: Fishing Trawler and Tempoross reward pool
- Fishing Trawler requires 15 Fishing; Tempoross requires 35 Fishing
- Tempoross is generally faster for the full set than Fishing Trawler
- The XP bonus saves approximately 27,000 XP over a full 99 Fishing grind
How to Get the Angler Outfit via Fishing Trawler
Fishing Trawler is the original Angler outfit source — a cooperative minigame where players repair a leaking trawler during a 12-minute voyage. Each completed voyage gives one roll at the Angler outfit loot table.
To reach Fishing Trawler:
- Travel to Port Khazard (south of Ardougne) — Ardougne lodestone then run south, or Fairy Ring BJR
- Speak to Murphy at the docks to board the trawler
- During the voyage, bail water, fix leaks, and maintain the net
- After 12 minutes, receive fish and a chance at an Angler outfit piece
Each voyage gives roughly a 1/8 chance of an outfit piece. The set has four pieces — most players need 15–25 voyages to complete the set. At 12 minutes per run, expect 3–5 hours of Fishing Trawler for a complete outfit.
ℹ️ Fishing Trawler can be done solo but is more efficient with a group — more players means more repair actions and better boat maintenance. Join the FT Friends Chat for active groups running the minigame regularly.
How to Get the Angler Outfit via Tempoross
Tempoross is the faster and more engaging method for most players. The Angler outfit pieces appear in the Tempoross reward pool at a rate that competes favourably with Fishing Trawler, and each run also gives Fishing XP and Spirit Flakes.
Tempoross is accessed from the docks at Cairn Isle in Feldip Hills. Travel via Fairy Ring DJP then run south. Each 5–8 minute run rolls the reward pool, which includes Angler outfit pieces among other rewards.
| Method | Time per Attempt | Approx. Runs for Full Set |
|---|---|---|
| Fishing Trawler | ~12 minutes | 15–25 runs |
| Tempoross | ~6 minutes | 20–35 runs |
While Tempoross requires more total runs on average, the shorter run time and bonus rewards (Fishing XP, Spirit Flakes) make it the preferred method for most players. The Spirit Flakes earned alongside the outfit have their own value for later Fishing training.
Is the Angler Outfit Worth Getting?
The 2.5% XP bonus saves roughly 27,000 Fishing XP over the 99 grind — equivalent to skipping about 200 hours of Barbarian Fishing at low levels, or a smaller proportional saving at high levels. For players planning to reach 99 Fishing, the outfit is mathematically worth the few hours it takes to collect. If you’re grinding toward 99 and want to accelerate the skilling process, our OSRS skilling services cover Fishing progression.
OSRS Angler Outfit FAQ
Below are the most common questions about getting the Angler outfit in OSRS.
Does the Angler Outfit Stack with Other XP Bonuses?
Yes — the Angler outfit’s 2.5% bonus stacks with other XP modifiers including the Well of Goodwill bonus, Experience Lamps, and Tears of Guthix. It does not stack with the Wisdom aura (members-only), which is a separate source of XP boost.
What Fishing Level Is Needed for the Angler Outfit?
Fishing Trawler requires 15 Fishing to board. Tempoross requires 35 Fishing to participate effectively. Both are accessible early in the skill grind.
Can You Get the Angler Outfit as an Ironman?
Yes — both Fishing Trawler and Tempoross are available to Ironmen. Tempoross is the preferred method because it also provides fish, herbs, and Spirit Flakes that benefit Ironman progression in ways Fishing Trawler doesn’t.
How Many Pieces Is the Angler Outfit?
Four pieces: Angler Hat, Angler Top, Angler Waders, and Angler Boots. Each piece gives 0.4% XP (the top gives 0.8%), totalling 2.5% when the full set is worn. Partial sets give partial bonuses — any piece worn is better than nothing.
Does the Angler Outfit Help with Barbarian Fishing?
Yes — Barbarian Fishing (the best Fishing XP method in OSRS) benefits from the Angler outfit’s XP bonus. Since Barbarian Fishing is the method most players use from level 58–99, getting the outfit before starting the Barbarian Fishing grind gives the most total XP savings.
Getting the Angler outfit is a one-time session that pays compound interest across the entire Fishing grind — one of the better return-on-time investments in OSRS skilling.
