Is Tailoring good WoW?

Similarly to Blacksmithing and Leatherworking, Tailoring is primarily a “dressing” profession, as you’ll be crafting all sorts of garments for you and other players to wear. Only being able to wear cloth armor, mages, warlocks, and priests are the primary tailoring customers, especially with all the passive effects and spell threads increasing the power of the wearer’s abilities. Now that max-level crafted gear can compare to Mythic + equipment, potentially even dipping into BIS territory, tailors can likely help some sorcerers go from Gandalf the Grey to Gandalf the White.

That’s not to say that other players do not need this profession. Apart from the aforementioned buffs, the players can get from tailor-made garments, there are also various good-looking embroideries, such as Explorer’s Banners. Another thing that pretty much everyone will want is the bags, including the largest reagent bag in the game. And finally, just as with all the other wow professions, you can get some crafting reagents and profession equipment only from the tailor.

How do you do Tailoring in WoW?

Unlike many other crafting professions in WoW, Tailoring doesn’t require a separate gathering profession to sustain it. That doesn’t mean you wouldn’t have to do plenty of resource grinding, but at least you can be more flexible in choosing the second profession. The most common choices are Enchanting, Skinning, and Mining.

As for the Tailoring itself, your primary materials include cloth and dyes, which you’ll be getting from humanoid monsters in the open world: including even undead and demons, despite how unsanitary that sounds. The rest can be purchased from the NPC merchants.

You’ll also need leather, jewels, and potions for some garments and items. In other words, you will need help from at least the Alchemists, Leatherworkers, and Miners to supply you with their materials, as you’ll likely quickly run out of simple garments to do.

The thing is — In the past, you’d be crafting the same simple items over and over to level up your profession. But now, you must do new recipes to progress your profession level. Thankfully, the Crafting Order system makes it much easier to get the items crafted by other professions, so far as you have the materials and gold to spare.

With primary professions undergoing a massive overhaul, they all appear to be in a good spot now. More than ever, each has its purpose, and no one prof can fully function without the others. As for how good Tailoring will be for you — that heavily depends on your goals and play style.

The profession might supply excellent endgame gear if you’re running a magic user. And even if you’re running a different class, thanks to the new Crafting Order system, you can easily make a good amount of gold by offering your service to other players, especially at the start of the expansion. But remember that — apart from a high level of profession and specialization — you also need high-quality gear and reagents to craft the best equipment possible.

The professions, in general, now take much longer to max out, especially if you want access to every available specialization. It appears you’d be much better putting your skill points into something one at the start rather than trying to be a jack of all trades.

While the specialization system makes players much more dependent on each other if they want to craft really cool stuff, it also considerably lowers the competition. And if your primary goal is gold-making, choosing an important but less appealing to other players’ specialization can be especially beneficial.

What you need for Tailoring WoW?

Tailoring is a pretty straightforward profession. You get the item recipe, get the required materials, and craft the item. Most of the time, you’d likely be doing cloth armor and other garments. Of course, you can choose other stuff to craft, such as bags, embroideries, profession tools, and reagents, which are likely to be in more or less continuous demand.

The cooler the thing you want to craft, the more complicated its recipe will be. While you can get most of the cloth and dyes yourself, the most valuable garments might require you to get your hands on some jewelry, leather, or alchemy potions. And if you want to craft high-quality items, reagents should also be of the highest quality.

To start Tailoring, you don’t have to do much — talk with a Tailoring trainer to learn the profession and some starter recipes. You don’t need any gear to start crafting items, but profession gear is still essential, as it directly affects the quality of your production.

As for getting the recipes and materials, a lot stayed the same. You purchase dyes from the merchants and loot cloth from humanoid enemies. Recipes scattered all over: you get them as quest rewards, reputation rewards, profession progression rewards, by purchasing from trainers, etc.
